- Recently Autel has released a new version of the firmware of the Evo Nano + containing two extra video profiles, LOG and HDR, to add to the existing Normal (with or without the Defog option) of this mini drone. In this video, I will analyze these footage profiles in all sorts of light conditions

It's amazing to me that we are getting such amazing video quality (and several recording options) from a tiny drone that weighs less than 250g! The Normal mode does surprisingly well in most situations. Thanks for the comparisons.

yes, the Nano Plus is absolutely astonishing in video and photo quality, hard to believe how good it is.
I did notice that in some footages the normal mode has more dynamic range and details in some shots (the castle had more details). HDR seams to work well in some situations. The Log mode will depend what software you use. Every editor will give a different conversion of the log file. I think Autel needs to add all the functions (manually controls) on the camera for all modes. The way HDR is created today in most cameras is by using an array of variable shades like a filter RYYB does. So the processor does not need to capture two images at once to create HDR. Are you capturing in H264 or H265? You should do a test on this two formats to see if the H265 will get a better range with log. The log format is missing some details on the image, but again, it could be the software you use. If you do use Apple computers you will have a hard time getting this right. The gamma on the Apple monitors are very high (great for photographers) vs regular PC monitors. And after encoding the video on a Apple computer you will make dark areas more dark and the sRGB (most users have) will experience very dark areas where the HDR try to fix that. And using the log in whatever software you are using the application is not yet programmed to deal with data. Maybe updates and need drivers will allow to add more control to the log files from the Nano+. Anyway, beautiful scenes as always!
I´m also very happy with the quailty of my Nano+-footage. I´ll use HDR for capturing footage with a wide range of contrast, for low range of contrast in captured footage in my opinion the colours are a little bit better. DLog I´ll try the next days and check the chance to get all well with post-grading the footage.

Thank you for another great Nano+ video. No one believes me, but HDR DOES work in pro (manual) mode. I've been doing a load of tests with mine. If you set up in pro, then go back to video and switch the HDR in then go back to pro, you'll see it looks 'brighter'. As you say, the quality also drops slightly, so it has limited use, but great for those specific low sun situations.

@@VICVideopIC The new firmware upgrade says clearly HDR doesn't work in pro mode - oh well, not sure what I was seeing, maybe it just switched to Auto. The firmware also sorts out the RAW colours - RAW shots are now amazing.

Another excellent comparison. So much depends on the conditions but to my eye the normal with defog looks best but I like more pop and saturation. For a more realistic (aka subdued) look the LOG profile does it. Thanks again!

Thank you for reviews on the Nano. I have a question. Using hyperlaps, can you set manual camera settings? I find the Nano keep changing e.g the ISO.
For some reason I can’t activate the Log and HDR mode even with auto… am I missing anything? Firmware is the masters version
Have you tried HDR and Log combined on night scenes? I saw another channel do this and they got pretty amazing results!

Sadly, my example of camera on the nano+ is Horrid at best. I cannot believe some of the stuff on here because of this.
What LUT or color correction did you apply to the LOG format?
