I need every single person in the world to read "The Girl Who Drank the Moon". I cried and laughed and it made a permanent impact on my heart. It has beautiful writing. A quote: âThe heart is built of starlight And time. A pinprick of longing lost in the dark. An unbroken chord linking the Infinite to the Infinite. My heart wishes upon your heart and the wish is granted. Meanwhile the world spins. Meanwhile the universe expands. Meanwhile the mystery of love reveals itself, again and again, in the mystery of you. I have gone. I will return." Come on, how can you not want to read a book with beautiful words like those?
I would highly highly recommend small spaces. I read it recently and loved this so much. This book was such an unexpected fun and spooky ride for me. I am officially now scared of scarecrows for life.
Iâm a scaredy-cat so middle grade scary stories is probably my max! Iâm in the middle of Nevermoor currently, which Iâm reading for the wonderland readathon. Love it! Jupiter North is hilarious.
One thing I have to say.. Never in my life I thought I would read middle grade books specially now that I'm about to hit my late twenties. but man ! I couldn't help it. I just ordered 8 of your must reads because you recommended it. Thank you so much! I love your energy and your channel. đ đđ€ oh and the Halloween and fall vibe is perfection! Thank you so much again xoxo
So flipping honoured that youâve included âGhoulsâ in your wonderful lineup - thank you so much, Alexandra. Ran around the house showing everyone your video and shouting excited nonsense. Hope you like the book!
This is such a good video!!!! The ones youâve recommended and Iâve read - Small Spaces, Dead Voices, Coraline, A Pinch of Magical - are WONDERFUL and I canât wait to read the rest! đ
If you havenât read The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier, itâs a fantastically creepy read. Excellent moral to the story and such a perfectly scary book! (Spoken about by a ginormous chicken...... so maybe not so very scary.)
Hi Lexi, you might not see this but I just want to say thank you. Your videos bring me so much joy and they are so cozy and full of great new books that I have never heard of. Love you and your videos so much.
The Graveyard book just arrived yesterday! I acutually ordered it because of you, it just sounded so interesting (and I love Ghost stories, especially for Fall đ) and im super excited to read it!!!!đ»
thank you SOOOO MUCH for making this!! i am 13, and have been having the hardest time finding spooky books (that are appropriate) to read during october!! one atmospheric book rec. i have for you is the wicked deep!!
I kinda hate those videos of yours... because you describe the books in such a good and enthusiatic way I wanna buy them all!!! They sound so amazing... and then I am taking a look at my overwhelming tbr and think: Nope you shouldn't.... Two days later an amazon order is placed. :D Thank you for recommending Middle grades! It is a very new genre to me, but I love it. I fell in love with A Town Called Perfect and the Measle series and I am lookig forward to read Malamander soon! I hope you are doing well! Really enjoy your videos!
I highly recommend The Thickety!! Itâs a super atmospheric middle grade about witches and has a great magic system. Itâs also pretty spooky and will keep you on the edge of your seat
Lexi I love these recommendations đ„°....I already own âThe Graveyard Bookâ with the audio OUTSTANDING!!!, City of Ghosts, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, A Pinch of Magic...but Nightbooks, Dead Voices, and Small Spaces how did I miss those they sound Amazing...Thank you Lexi đ
Speaking of memories with Howlâs Moving Castle, your book club pick will forever remind me of what got me through month 4 of the pandemic. I was thankful for something positive to pour my energy into during that time!
I read The Graveyard Book a few days ago after your recommendation and absolutely adored it. Your recs never disappoint me!! I am now planning to read Vanishing Girls soon!
I don't normally read books like these but I'm gonna try to do that soon. Not next year because I have planned out books and am trying to save money so I'm reading what I have until I have nothing, but in 2023 maybe I'll be able to work on this. Hopefully I remember. I now have this video and Gavin's video from 2020 saved on here so I'll be able to watch them to remember the books in them and I will know who recommended each book I'm gonna read. I have a few books in my wish list on Audible because that's where I'll be able to read these books, so I hope I'll remember to do this in 2023. We shall see.
I'm actually getting The Girl Who Drank The Moon tomorrow, along with Forest of Souls, and I am so excited & I can't wait to read it! Literally added every book you recommended to my amazon wishlist :) âĄâĄâĄ
I HIGHLY recommend The Jumbies!! I read it for the reading rush and I absolutely fell in love with it. Some of those jumbies are terrifying! After reading it I immediately bought the second and third book. I also just picked up City of Ghosts and Smalls Spaces today from the library. You made them sound so good I just had to pick them up!!
I just found you and you make reading books for people half my age sound wonderful đđđ I'm trying to collect books for a few kids that cannot afford them so this will be amazing!
I absolutely LOVED A Tale So Dark and Grimm when I was a kid! It scared me half to death but I loved it. It has a really interesting narrative style too!
Always gotta come to the queen of middle grade for spooky recommendations!!! đđ the misery of black hollow lane sounds super intriguing!! Neil Gaiman is such a classic!! Iâve heard amazing things about ghost squad!!! đđ love a haunted house!! That scarecrow is giving me all the spooky vibes!! A book within a book is the best!! I loooovvveee the girl who drank the moon!! đđ I still gotta read howls moving castle and Nevermoor!!
Hey Alexandra! Love this video, and all of your recs. Not sure if you're going to see this comment, but 'Jumbies' is actually pronounced "jum-bees", not "joom-bies". My family is from Trinidad and Tobago, and for us, a Jumbie is pretty much our Boogeyman equivalent. My parents used it to scare me to sleep MANY a'night haha.
I just started Nightbooks this month. Iâm now about 76 pages in and am enjoying it so far. I also loved Pinch of Magic. Canât wait to get to the second book.
Hi Alexandra! I just love your recommendations. I always love middlegrades and you have the best selections. Im happy there are people who likes middlegrade same as me eventhough we are adults.hehehe. Please recommend more.đ„°đ„°đ„°
I've recently discovered your channel and I love it! đ I have another middlegrade monster recommendation that I'm currently reading: "The Moster who wasn't" by T. C. Shelley. Also the cover is just stunnig! âđ
Hi! I don't remember if I've posted it on here but I really can recommend Kathryn Littlewood' books about the Bliss family. First book is called Bliss, then comes A Dash of magic and then Bite-Sized Magic. They are all very good and I can highly recommend them. Cheers Jackie
Okay, so I TOTALLY might have gotten some of my October picks from you, so sorry if you've already read them: Scary Stories for Young Foxes, The Dreadful Tale of Prosperous Redding, The Girl and the Ghost, The Monsters of Rookhaven, and Vanishing Trick (also have Wundersmith and The Jumbies that you mentioned)...and of course, now I want to add ALL the books you featured!! Thanks as always for ALL that you do!!
Hello there ! Your all videos are really amazing and I have already got so many ideas of different books from you and here is a small request from me that please make a video on fairytale books recommendation alsođ
aw thank you :) and oh sorry!! I think that's just my background from being a librarian and bookseller. We're taught to tailor our recommendations based on reviews and individual readers taste rather than just our own experience, so I'll probably keep doing that- but I'll always be sure to mention if I've read it or not! xx
If you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh & Skeleton Man by Joseph Bruchac - both are wonderful, spooky, with amazing female protagonists!
I might have already recommended these first two to you already but in case I didn't, they are both spooky and atmospheric. The House in Poplar Wood by K. E. Ormsbee and Watch Hollow by Gregory Funaro. I also adored two books by Pat Walsh called The Crowfield Curse and The Crowfield Demon. There was supposed to be a third book, finishing a trilogy, but after many years it still hasn't been published. Still, the first two books both stand alone with satisfying endings and they are both quite spooky.
I feel like you would love the book "The Mysterious Disappearance of Aiden S. (As Told to his Brother). It's a quick read and so cute and whimsical but also kind of realistic.
Thank you for the recommendations! I have a few you might enjoy: The Shrunken Head by Lauren Oliver Nightmares! by Jason Sagel and Kirsten Miller Anyone but Ivy Pocket by Caleb Crisp The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury Who Could That Be At This Hour? by Lemony Snicket Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz Heap House by Edward Carey Bunnicula by Deborah Howe Again, thanks for the list. It's difficult to find quality books to read in this genre.
My favorite book from my childhood is The Voyage of the Basset. Itâs basically Peter Pan crossed with the Hobbit. It is a picture book, but the art is extremely good, and the story manages to be quite compelling. I like it, at least. I donât know if picture books are an interest of yourâs Alexandra.
I don't need to add more books to my October TBR but I maybe have to add Ghost squad and Nightbooks đđ» Edit: You didn't mention The house on the Hoarder hill. It's spooky, magical and fun middle grade book.
Hey, I am a big reader in the horror genre of middle grade and teen categories. It would be nice to have a discussion about books with someone like you who is knowledgeable about books, it's very educational. May I recommend to you the Fear Street books by R.L. Stine
