H.pylori / Helicobacter pylori - How I’m doing 12 months after treatment!

  • Hey everyone,
    I wanted to create this mini series of videos to share my own personal experience with h.pylori / helicobacter pylori, because I have found it a struggle to get answers to questions that I had about it while I had symptoms, during testing & treatment, and then how I felt after treatment.
    Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional who can diagnose or treat h.pylori. This video series is just my own personal experience with it, having recently been diagnosed & treated myself. Nothing I talk about is intended to replace the advice provided by medical or functional doctors. Each person is different in their journey.
    It felt important for me to share my experience because I was diagnosed with other things along my journey before h.pylori was found, such as anxiety, panic attacks, irritable bowel syndrome, sibo & menopause were all given as diagnosis along the way because of the range of symptoms I was having.
    This video is part 4 where I talk about how I’ve navigated the healing process, 12 months after eradication treatment!
    Thank you so much for being here,
    Shelley x

    Thanks for your continous support as always. Beautiful Video Shelley!! I have been watching only 2 channels on youtube in which one is yours!! My journey.. I have been diagnoses since last 6 months with H pylori!! I have two small ulcers in stomach!! Doctor tested for those and thank god it was normal one with no sign of risk. I completely stopped eating junk foods as i was eating daily outside foods. Long story short. I have taken medicines which has disturbed my gut flora and the situation became more horrible after those medicines. I have started an alkaline diet and coconut water everday day. Even i have placed an order for manuka honey with 15+umf. Can you give more suggestions to get back to normal.

      Hello, oh gosh! I’m so pleased you’ve found the ulcers and can now heal! I’m not an expert on this but I’d definitely say eating a plant based diet should be helpful as you are then diversifying the bacteria in your gut. Also, add in some extra virgin olive oil to salads. Steam vegetables, especially broccoli & cabbage as they will help with healing for sure. Lots of rest and water but the alkaline diet should also be really beneficial. I’ve found ‘the gut health doctor’ on Instagram very helpful with recipes and advice on how to add more plants and wholesome foods into your diet. I wish you all the very best on your healing journey, and hope you are fully recovered very soon!

    Hi Shelley! I’m
    wondering if you are experiencing any symptoms after your antibiotic/PPI treatment and healing time? Any bloating, constipation, fatigue etc? Much appreciated 🙏🏾

    • @shelleywakeling
      @shelleywakeling  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hello, I did experience symptoms after treatment & it seemed to go on for months after. As time went on, my symptoms became less intense but it took a year to feel fully right again. It was around the 6 month mark when I started to feel better more quickly. If I ate something slightly too much such as spice or heat then I would bloat. I was fatigued but I had low iron as a result of the infection so I take iron supplements now to help with energy levels. It’s worth getting a blood test to check if you have any deficiencies maybe? I hope this helps!

    Your video is so helpful, thank you so much🙏🏻❤️ I feel positive now hearing that you can go back to feeling normal again🥹 It is very lonely, that’s for sure! I just have one question: did you get gastritis because of H.pylori?
    I was told I have gastritis because of it and have to heal all this damage now.

    • @shelleywakeling
      @shelleywakeling  Před 4 měsíci

      You can 100% heal after h pylori! Yes, I was told I had gastritis after the antibiotics and was also told it could take a while to heal. I had gaviscon chewable tablets after my evening meals for a short time which helped ease the soreness and then around 6 months after treatment I decided to try a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in some water before evening meals and this helped bring up stomach acid levels and the soreness went away. I drank cooled boiled decaf green tea with a teaspoon of Manuka honey every day which helped with the soreness 🙂

    Hey Shelley! Thanks for this videos. I wonder, when you took the antibiotics and the PPI. Did you take them (specially antibiotics) on an empty stomach first thing in the morning without food? Or did you eat food first, and then took antibiotics and the PPI?
    Also, what was the order for this treatment? Did you take the PPI alone for 7 days and then took the PPI with the antibiotics together for additional 7 days? And then finally finished off this regimen with 7 days of omeprazole (3 weeks in total for the PPI). Or did you just start of straight away with the PPI and the antibiotics from day one together?
    Finally, was this the first time that you took antibiotics? Or have you taken other antibiotics previously in your life? I wonder because people can have antibiotic resistance if they have previously taken antibiotics. Thanks in advance. 🙌🏾

      Hello, I took ppi twice each day for a week on an empty stomach and antibiotics half an hour later and before meals. It was a hard protocol . I continued with ppi for an additional 2 weeks and then weaned off them over a week or so to avoid a surge in stomach acid. I have had antibiotics previously. I hope this helps!

    I have 3 questions. Sorry in advance for the long message! I hope you’re doing well. 🙏🏾
    1. I don’t know if you can answer this, but regarding your neighbour - is she fully recovered? She said she was fully recovered after 14 months. Do you know if she has any symptoms right now such as Candida overgrowth, bloating etc? Taking any supplements/antibiotics etc right now?
    2. Regarding the PPI, how long in TOTAL did you use it for? You took it for 14 days - in combination with antibiotics for 7 days right? For how long did you continue with the PPI after the 7 days of antibiotics, and if so - for how long?
    3. How is your life now? Do you take any supplements/antibiotics today? Do you have any symptoms such as constipation/diarrhoea/dry skin etc, happened to you after the antibiotic treatment? Or do you eat and live normal today would you say? Sorry for the long message once again and thanks in advance! 🙏🏾

      Hi! Yes my neighbour said she felt fully better after a year after treatment. I believe she has no issues now and is fully healed.
      I took ppi for 3 weeks in total. The first week was during treatment, then a further week and then I weaned off it during the third week to avoid a surge in stomach acid.

      @shelleywakeling  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi, oh yes, even now almost 14 months after treatment I’ll still get the occasional burning but it gets less and less over time. I would just say to listen to your body, leave a food/drink for a bit longer and try again in a few weeks. Every time you eat/drink, your foods are rubbing against where the infection was so it’ll be sore and raw for a while. When I was unable to manage the soreness I’d have a gaviscon chewable tablet after my main meal to give my stomach a break. I did this for a short time but only while I was still sore. I hope you feel better soon 🙂
