Always landing a charged GS attack is my favorite feeling in Monster Hunter.. it's sometimes hard with the placement and timing, but the euphoria it causes when connects is second to none.. pure bliss
Ironically, the big dumb "hit with maximum force" stick is the weapon that requires the player really know the monster to do amazingly well with. You have to anticipate where the part of the monster will _be,_ not where it currently is - because chances are by the time you're done charging, it'll be somewhere else.

As much as I love TCS and shoulderbash, nothing beats the raw satisfaction of those Crit Draw swings. I was forced into using a Crit Draw build for Alatreon in Iceborne and it was the most satisfying hunt ever.
Same here with me. I've always been a crit draw GS main from the old world. But since World came out, I adapted and loved the new GS mechanics. With alatreon though... That fight was frustrating with teammates. I knew I couldn't depend on people and the new GS mechanics if I wanna break through his elemental damage checks so I resorted back into the hit and run crit draw style of GS, created a new build, watched many many videos on how to solo him and I FINALLY beat Alatreon eventually! It was THE most memorable and satisfying moment in monster hunter for me next to beating fatalis in World. I definitely know what you mean when you memorize his move sets and how to punish him in between his attacks while also I-frame rolling through them. It really felt symbolic for me looking back into old gen games haha
Fatalis, as well. They made it hard but not satisfying since all the hit boxes are shit. I ended up having to do the cone bait technique on a lot of weapons.

Every popular game franchise has gatekeepers and Elitists! It’s highly annoying and extremely immature. I never understood why people are so concerned with how someone else plays video games. If I want to play Doom Eternal on the easiest difficulty I’m going to! If I want to grind for gear and Zenny in MH: GU, World and Rise, I will! I’m all for challenging and difficult games as well. I enjoyed the hell out of Horizon: Zero Dawn on the hardest difficulty.
As someone who started with World, I really miss the turn mechanics monsters had in the older games, it was so satisfying to get a lvl 3 charge or a valor attack at the exact right time

3U GS gives me flashbacks to the time i learned charm sniping specifically to make the full G-Rank Jhen Mohran set work as a (non-optimized but otherwise fully functional) GS set. im so glad we got layered armor so i could overcome my aversion to mixed sets
What I find most impressive is those dung bomb snipes on the rhenopolos. Also, why the hell did I never think of that to get rid of those obnoxious small monsters that ruin a 1 on 1
I would rate the difficulty of doing this to Rathian to be like a 4 or 5 out of 10. If it was Zinogre or something ridiculous like devilJho, you would need much more practice.
It was a decent suprise when I heard that GS was a beginner friendly weapon in older games To a World player it was always the 'I like to suffer' kind a weapon
GS was begginer friendly only for hit and run playstyles, with charging left only for when the monster was down. Timing charges like video shows is definitely not beginner friendly.
I really wish crit draw build are great again It really versatile play styles and answering many GS problem without too much finesse being able to do various counter and stuff to access the coveted TCS
It made me really mad that they nerfed crit draw to only 60% affinity. It wasn’t the strongest greatsword style in world so I’m not sure where that nerf came from. The only thing I can think of is because longsword’s sheathe stance applies crit draw. I really hope that going forward this change won’t stay, it really hurts to miss out on those crits. :(
The GS is powerful with this build for sure, but I feel like most of the work came from your positioning. Not just hitting the head every time, but also walking just outside the Rathian attacks and then immediately back in to attack was incredible.

Against rathian specifically most people can do with with practice. Arguably the most predictable monster of old gen, rathian + diablos are common monsters to grind out when you're learning how to do proactive play woth slow weapons like gs and GU charge blade
I like how the environment in this game is still psp-tier polygon count, but the textures are super high res and the monster and hunter both are high poly.

Recently, i started playing the great sword. A friend of mine was happy, since he mained the weapon for a really long time now, so he instantly told me about animation cancel. While running, attack and press block to skip the charging animation and instantly hit the monster with a charged attack. Well, he is not the best when it comes to explaining, so he was only able to show me how he does it ingame, but i was not able to replicate it even once, not only by chance. So i wondered if there is anyone out there who could give me a nice and easy to understand explanation for this?
@@Honor_of_Claymore i mean you can chain tackles to skip charge levels, but theres no way to insta charge the weapon. Outside of Strongarm counter in rise anyway

My favorite was tanking any hit in the game with a Lance while everyone has to doge or run away.

Turning monsters were great bc it was just free dmg if you were smart and good at head sniping.

the more charged GS attacks you land in a row, the closer you get to reaching nirvana from the amount of bliss you will get from the experience.

Crit draw greatsword is SO fun, I used it for GU in combination with valor style, still some of the most fun I’ve had playing a monster hunter game.
