Ea claims he did research on the health affects of marijuana. I would like to know where he gets his facts from because he did not state it. His facts about marijuana as a drug is wrong and misleading. (1) Marijuana of today is A LOT more potent than it was in the 70s and 80s. (1A) I don't know if the politicians who he claims used marijuana, were experimenting. The marijuana back then was a lot LESS potent than the strains of today. Today we are finding out more about people who come from abused backgrounds and instead of healthy-constructive healing, dealers (legal or illegal) take advantage of these people with drugs. (2) Marijuana, if used long-term and frequently, and if someone starts at an early age does affect their IQ. It goes down 8%. Please note: New brain imaging proves that brains are NOT fully developed by the age of 18 (as they thought in the past). It is now discovered that the brain is fully developed by your late 20s, possibly even early 30s. Drugs (all drugs) affect the development of your brain. (3) Marijuana can be addicting. The younger someone starts, and the more frequent they use, the higher risk of becoming addicted. (4) People's tolerance level also becomes affected. You need more to get the same high. (5) Marijuana is a gateway drug. As an addiction counselor, over the years, client after client who have addictions to other drugs have stated that they never believed that marijuana was a gateway drug, but it happened to them. Also it is a fact that most people who use harder drugs have started with one of 3 drugs: Alcohol, tobacco and/or marijuana. (6) Today we have technical evidence (through brain imaging) that marijuana and other drugs damage the brain with long-term use, especially those who start at an earlier age.(7) Though cigarettes have more toxic chemicals, marijuana has 4x more tar (that deposits in your lungs) than cigarettes. There is increased chance of lung infections and cancer. (8) Marijuana changes the chemistry of your brain. Your brain is your control center. (9) Marijuana speeds up your heart rate. This can be anywhere from 20% to 100%. Older people, or those with heart conditions are prone to heart attacks. Please think about why you would want your heart rate to change from the normal rate of beats. (10) Excerpt from NIDA: "Marijuana use during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of neurobehavioral problems in babies. Because THC and other compounds in marijuana mimic the body’s own endocannabinoid chemicals, marijuana use by pregnant mothers may alter the developing endocannabinoid system in the brain of the fetus. Consequences for the child may include problems with attention, memory, and problem solving." (11) Causes paranoia in many people. (12) Poor decision making. How many people will drive a car or do other things not safe while using? (13) Slows reaction time and makes motor coordination difficult. What do you do in an emergency situation if you are high? (14) Restricts blood flow. That is why people who smoke marijuana have bloody-red eyes. (15) High doses of marijuana can produce a temporary psychotic reaction. (15) So far, the only medical marijuana that is proven is the chemical CBD that is distracted from the plant. THC is what gets you high. The part that gets you high is NOT the same chemical. CBD has helped those with seizures. (16) It is not easy to make marijuana legal because there are so many different strains of the plant (variations). That makes it difficult to monitor. (17) We all have cancer cells. It takes something to "trigger" these cells. Smoking anything, including marijuana increases this risk. (18) People do mix drugs (legal and illegal). ----- The combination of marijuana and other drugs are not healthy. (19) For those who chose to smoke with someone and you don't know where they got it from, it can be mixed with something else. What that something else is, who knows?
- Please remember, you are altering your brain. You are smoking (inhaling). Marijuana will go through all the organs of your body. Long term, this is not a good thing. I don't appreciate ea "minimizing and rationalizing" the use of a drug into your body. He is encouraging manipulating life, a precious gift from G-d.
- If you would like facts about the drug, please use official sources. The main source is NIDA. NIDA = National Institute on Drug Abuse. Nora Volkow, the Director of NIDA, is the scientist who discovered that addiction is a disease of the brain, through brain imaging. Other places to research facts about marijuana is The American Lung Association, SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) and other official sources you can find.
- You will hear people on the street giving you "facts" that are not true. Remember, someone is making money off of drugs. Drugs that are legal or illegal, from dealers, LOVE when you rationalize or normalize why you should take drugs. You are nothing but a $$$$$ to them. - These drug dealers want you to believe it is "The Norm" to use drugs.
- Stay healthy. G-d gave you the blessing of your brain and body. Keep yours healthy (physically and psychologically). The choice is yours.
- Last thought, imagine if all this energy that ea uses, if he used it to influence young people to stay in school, get tutoring, volunteer our time, exercise, eat right, sing, dance, do good. He chooses his time to rationalize the use of a drug that does affect one's health long-term (and the drug dealers, both legal and illegal LOVE him for this). You have a choice.
Everything you said in your comment proves you held an opinion long before you watched this video. The IQ study has been proven wrong. The issue with strength is irrelevant and a red herring. People got just as high in the past as smokers do today. Yes, technology and better science has allowed today's growers to produce more potent cannabis. However, people would just smoke more in the past to get as high as a few hits do now.
