  • While in Beijing, we were able to go to a JD.com logistics centre to give you a sneak peak around. JD, in China is essentially their version of Amazon. They sell almost anything and everything. JD have invited us to one of their biggest centres in the future where we can bring you a more detailed look so drop a like if you want to see that!

It's a pity that you haven't seen more related videos. In fact, Japanese director Takeuchi has made many similar documentaries, such as Alibaba's digital development, opportunities and challenges in the post-epidemic era, and documentaries of Huawei. Since the titles of these videos are in Chinese, it is difficult for you to find them, but the subtitles are bilingual in Chinese and English. I hope you can search for it, because these videos are really good and objective. But Barret has done a good job too. Thanks for introducing the real China.

I was in the U.S. for four years, and I only used Amazon, which is great! When I was back to China, I remember one time I ordered something around 11 pm, and the thing was delivered to me in the morning, like 8-9 am. The tracking history showed that the item was shipped from Zhengzhou, which is a city around 700km away. I was literally shocked lol

A classmate of mine works at JD as the VP of their cloud-based big data research institution. Like Amazon, JD owns its distribution centers and logistics. Same day or second day delivery/arrival, free of change with any JD order. By comparison, you need to pay extra💰 with Amazon purchases to have expedited delivery 🚚 in the US or Canada. JD’s standard fast delivery is called ‘China Speed’👍

China's logistics is truly the number one in the world because the government's infrastructure is very good. Don't think that infrastructure is no big deal. It can actually directly and gradually affect various economic fields.
Logistics mainly relies on transportation. The strong infrastructure built by the Chinese Communist Party and the smooth and unobstructed highway network and expressway can deliver goods to customers smoothly and quickly. High-speed rail will also affect the smoothness of roads. If there is no high-speed rail, think about it, if many cars be there Racing on the road, can the logistics be fast?

It's kind of ironic that in a lot of ways the direction that companies like Amazon and Wal Mart have gone in basically resembles a sort of internal command economy in which competition is basically made non-existent because all the various departments and companies are vertically integrated into one corporation... Taking that logic out of a corporation and scaling it up to the level of a country it doesn't get more vertically integrated than a one-party state. I have a feeling a lot of these Western Corporate types are not going to be entirely thrilled about the end result of where a lot of their innovation actually takes them.
Also I strongly recommend the book The People's Republic of Wal Mart which details the history of how Wal Mart became China's American distribution branch and how it is effectively run like an isolated command economy, completely counter to the logic of right wing economics and Neo-liberalism where there always has to be useless competition and antagonistic parties tripping over each other's feet to try to make a somewhat better widget, truly idiotic and a massive waste of resources if you think about it for a second.

The next big thing is driverless vehicles. This needs sound infrastructure and ALSO security. Imagine a gang of thieves or rapists intend to attack passengers of driverless car. They just need to stand on the road to stop the car. No risk for them being run over. So easy.
Among the major countries, I can only see China which can intruduce driverless cars.

On the other hand the tourist bureau discovers their valuable contributions to international understanding by facilitating and opening more doors for them to explored. JD is indeed a unique e-commerce as far as i know, cause it has its own logistics department. For example Taobao is a C2C e-commerce platform, so express companies are free to be chosen by the sellers. Even the largest Amazon needs to rely on other logistics companies at least in China and Germany(where i live now), like Amazon Prime on box but deliveried by SF in China or DHL in Germany. With the internal logistics system DJ can greatly simplify the process and optimize the speed.

    之前打电话听他们说上午的货要在中午12点前送到,现在美国一般是上午货到了被学校驿站扣留几小时或者一天才能取,送货慢就算了,到货了还要等

I am sure many Americans assume this is a copy of Amazon. Most of Americans don't realize ecommerce have been carried out effectively in China for awhile. I brought something from Aliexpress. It took forever to arrive to states but that is expected. But in China, I saw a blogger ordered fresh seafood in the morning that arrived on the afternoon still moving.
