Quinton is like a penny, you'll find him on the ground and cherish him forever.
Quinton is like a penny - the raw materials that constitute him are worth more separated and unprocessed.
And the only reason I keep him is because I always ignore him because I use dollars instead of adding up pennys.
Okay but like one more thing about Payphone:
Adam’s verses are about how he regrets how he treated someone and he needed to call them to tell them he’s sorry.
wiz khalifa’s verse is about how people from his past who did him wrong are always trying to call him up and apologize because they just want a piece of his fame.
Guys, they’re talking to each other. Like for real.
Wiz Kalifa wasn't even supposed to be in the video he just showed up, didn't realize they took his car and they just recorded him after he wondered off
I think the Gives You Hell MV is about a guy growing up and trying to be two things at once: his college age grunge self, and his future suburban family man life. This causes a disconnect between him and his girlfriend/future wife (which coincides with the song) which ultimately tears their relationship apart. He wants to have fun and be grungy, but also be the family man for his girlfriend. He's angry at her until they come to the conclusion that they need to meet in the middle and/or open up the relationship (hence the wife swap scene). Both women are supposed to be different facets of the same girl.
I have a theory in regards to the music video where both of the main characters are played by the same singer. Haven't watched the original piece itself but based on what I can gather from your video, here's what I believe:
The two men represent different phases of the man's life. The "bad neighbor" who hangs out with a group is a simply younger version of the singer, while the "good neighbor" who lives with his wife is an older form of the guy. The two are at odds since the older version dislikes looking back at his past self (perhaps caused by stupid mistakes he has made), while his past self sees his future self as a lame old man (nobody wants to see themselves get boring as they become old). This actually does tie into what the song is about because in the video, the future version of the performer states "When you see my face / hope it gives you hell" which, again, is most likely due to the fact that the past version of the man would not like to see himself grow out of the phase which he is in.
I could go a lot more in depth but it's a CZcams comment. Hope you understand what the hell I am on about, Quinton.
You make sense, maybe the video is really about reflecting on the past. I always assumed the "gives you hell" video was about 2 guys that were ex lovers lol. I felt like that was implied. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Yeah, that definitivly weren't good examples for weird plots. Thriller e.g. was a spoof of typical horror tropes. Some of the most appreciated Guns and Roses videos would have worked a lot better.
To be fair tho, I think the surreal and cartoon quality some of these videos have is exactly what they are going for. From a filming standpoint music videos have some of the artsiest stuff I’ve seen.
Y'all remember "Save Rock and Roll" by Fall Out Boy? It's an entire album where there's a music video for every single song, and they all link together to tell one cohesive story. The band members get kidnapped, tortured, brainwashed, killed, you name it, all by this group that hates music or something? And they're all racing to protect this briefcase, which in the end, you never really figure out what's in it, but it's supposed to be viewer interpretation. It was silly and over the top, but I absolutely love it.
Let's be fucking clear on one thing. 99 Red Balloons is amazing in every way imaginable.
Yes I too like a song about 99 red balloons being mistaken for missiles and causing a war but seriously I love it

What even happened in the video?
Girl's reading books
Guys on giant books are singing

The entire place lights on fire
What even?
Michael Jackson had a vision when he started a project, everything was calculated to precision. He didn't need to 'look cool' he simply was. Smooth Criminal for example, there's a moment in the extended version where him and the dancers just 'feel the music' before it goes to the dance break. It has meaning, passion, soul. They were short films.
These artists just want to look cool and get a reaction. Michael didn't need to, he knew that the reaction was inevitable, he just needed to tell the best story possible. And he always did. And that's why no one will ever compare.
When I was younger I almost cried when I first saw “thriller “
Same here. It still gets points for being the scariest music video ever made, and to this day, even though I'm 25, I STILL believe Michael Jackson was a werewolf/Thundercat hybrid. Fucking creepy. At least it lives up to it's name, it is a Thriller.
My day just got better
The Narrator so did mine I love quinton and the bear body is amazing
Whip It by Devo
Safety Dance by Men Without Hats
Tainted Love by Soft Cell
We Built This City by Starship
Physical by Olivia Newton John
Abracadabra by Steve Miller Band
and, of course
The Tide is High by Blondie. She's in her apartment . . . and it floods . . . and a Darth-Vader-lookin-thing is watching her . . . then she and her bandmates get on a rocket to dance with the alien. Yeah.
Am I truly the only person in all these years who said Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Don’t Come Around Here? How is this even possible???
"sometimes I play this game, I pretend to be gay and watch a Madonna music video."-Quinton
The music video for “If It Gives You Hell” represents that during adulthood your “wild side” can torture you sometimes. Sometimes you really want to do bad things and finding a healthy way to live out your wild side can help you calm the battle between your two sides.
literally every Gorillaz music video is kinda like this
Sirinterweb I’d say that Sarurnz Barz is really the only one as weird as these.
Sirinterweb at least they are connected. That actually makes them more confusing.
I'd recommend watching David Bowie's "Jazzin for Blue Jean" from 1984 the full thing is an amazing tale about two characters (both played by Bowie) the entire thing is 20 minutes long and even gets a meta ending
Summary
Bowie number 1 wants to date a girl who likes bowie number 2. Bowie number1 then pretends to know bowie number 2 to impress her
Eventually Bowie number 1 buys a ticket for one of bowie number 2's concerts and gives it to her bowie1 then breaks into bowie2's dressing room begging him to help him impress his girlfriend
Bowie 2 goes out on stage and sings a song
Then Bowie 1 and his girlfriend wait until everyone else has left the theatre
Bowie 2 approaches bowie1 and his girlfriend
He then impresses her and steals her from Bowie1
Then Bowie1 exits the theatre furious and talks to the video's director demanding that the video gets a happy ending and that he should get the girl
The video then pans out with Bowie1 and the director arguing
Without a doubt, A WEIRD VIDEO. But It's Bowie and everything he did was gold.
I always keep ''Jazzin for Blue Jean'' in my heart.
@@momopenguins7335 Blackstar is weird *and* sad. David Bowie knew that he was going to die.
On my fifth birthday i was watching MJ Thriller on MTV and the part where he turns into a werewolf traumatized me so bad that ive never seen it until now just these clips in this video
I'm not ashamed to admit... thriller, at one point in my life, scared the shit out of me
Edit: You should've taken a look at the 'Rock DJ' video by Robbie Williams. That video is the strangest one I've ever seen
Dude/lady, there's NO shame in admitting Thriller scared you. To this day, it scares me. It scared me when I was a little boy. How could it NOT scare you, at least a little? There's no shame in saying something scares you. It's ok, we've all got fears and things that scare us. There's also the "Land Of Confusion" video, which was just weird, but one of my favorite songs. There's the Foo Fighters, who've had pretty much every single one of their videos weird as hell, along with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gorillaz, with every video they've ever made being weird, but the RHCP and Gorillaz are 2 of my favorite bands, so i don't mind the weirdness. It works, and they always make it work, that's part of how they're 2 of the best bands out there, another part is just the fact that they're awesome and talented.
It still scares me lol. It's been like 20+ years and I have YET to finish the full video without turning on the lights or looking behind me. The horror atmosphere and designs are just so on point for a nearly 40 year old MV, Oscar worthy really.
There’s nothing to be ashamed of, I was little when I first saw it and it scared the shit outta me too
Payphone is still more comprehensive than the zombies storyline from COD
Apparently most film insurance companies won't cover music videos, so my theory is that they give them these cringey skits and convoluted plots so they can be technically counted as short films.
In my eyes, Radioactive is the strangest music video in existence. The lyrics have so little relevance the bizarre scene being displayed.
what about teddy bears fighting to the death in a arena owned by a Mexican cowboy doesn't link up to talks of being superhuman and rebelion
What about "We can dance" by men with hats where they are at the renaissance fair
@@BMoney8600 The song is actually called "The Safety Dance". You just quoted one of the song's lyrics. 🤓
Oh my God, that singing along with the Madonna video at the end!
R Kelly - Trapped in the Closet
He's a man with a pee fetishes who believes he can flyyYYYYYYyyyyYYYYYyyyyyyyYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyYYYYYYYY....
Thanks for the repeated Gaga cockteases... I really would’ve loved to hear you review “Telephone”.
I like your shirt. It was because of Al TV that I discovered Weird Al.
I scrolled all the way down here looking for someone talking about the Al TV shirt.
(Me, I discovered Weird Al when Dr Demento did, because I'd already been listening to Dr Demento for years, because I'm old...)
*Begins to think about Money For Nothin by Dire Straits*
That one makes total sense though. It's a cartoon-styled segment where a store employee laments about musicians and the easy life they have compared to him, which is what the song was about too.
Polygon people carrying shit unnaturally as some guy talks about working at Sears.
The song was inspired by a hardware store employee complaining about how easy being a musician seems. So the video's relation to the song only makes sense if you know the story behind it.
"ok so hear me out.... there's this one episode of Danny Phantom...."
"Nobody understood it... and thats why its art."
Preach
I love the arc that's told across two gorillaz songs, being feel good inc and then el Manana, and then the ain't it funny music vid by Danny brown. That one is a classic. Post malone's rockstar has a flames music video too.
please, Quinton, we need a part 2
"... Everyone in the music industry, big or small, are trying really really hard to be Michael Jackson." 35 years and boy is that still true.
Just saw you on Nerd City. Nice
These are the best kinds of music videos. Nowadays the ones i've seen are just one guy sad about missing his ex girlfriend (his barely dressed girlfriend) and then showing up at her door while it's raining or something.
Fall Out Boy's film The Youngblood Chronicles. I still don't know what is happening despite how many times I saw it in middle school.
My favorite music video is definitely I’m Going Slightly Mad. It’s delightfully odd, and Mercury did an amazing job with his acting, and somehow the lyrics ACTUALLY match the video
You should look at low budget homemade Metal music videos. Nothing is funnier than that
almost surprised you didnt mention bruce willis in the gorillaz music video
Can we all take a minute and go re-watch "Total Eclipse of the Heart" with this mindset?
Thriller and video is so transcendent that it was my now 5 year old daughter's first "favorite song", she would listen to it over and over and could do the zombie dance when she was 3
“Sometimes I like to play this game where I pretend to be gay”
-quinton reviews, 2018
When is your next Fallen Titans coming out? I really enjoyed the last one.
When is his next video coming out? I pretty much really enjoy basically all of his videos.
Hey I really liked the longer-introduction format of the video, added a lot of context I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Great work Quinten!
"She's either a prostitute or Madonna herself.... It's always hard to tell which one she's trying to go for"
I'm not sure either. Nowadays, I'm sure it's just Madonna herself, as she's way too old to be playing a prostitute.
Artists trying to make their own Thriller is just sad. Nobody can make something on the same level as Thriller. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Artists should try to set themselves apart instead of being followers. That’s one of the many reasons why Michael is a legend, because he innovated and popularized so much in the music industry.
10:51 I think it's a metaphor
It represents the internal turmoil between what the punk rocker boy wants to be and what his family and society want him to be
Or maybe I'm just looking to deep into it i don't know
The red Oldsmobile joke went right over my head at first, since I already knew what the company was.
DO ANOTHER ONE PLEASE I LITERALLY LOVE THIS
you should make a series out of this:D this was so fun!
"Hey, I feel like you're sending out some mixed signals."
*tries to get him off the hood of her car*
I lost it.
I don't know what it is. But that 4 minute intro was so well researched and so well edited that it just made me love you even more! Thank you Quinton
"Could someone politely ask these criminals to wait for the wiz khalifa part of the song?" Thank you, sir.
Adding the dialogue to the dodgy guy holding the car was the best thing Ive seen/heard in so long. Thank you for that.
Your videos keep getting better and better, nicely done :)
Today when i was walking from School to home I was thinking about that Michael Jackson song.
I loved the singing, well put together Mr Quinton
This was actually a really good video! I'd love to see more!
I wouldn't mind watching you break down more music videos because honestly there are so many that you would never run out of content lol. I love your take on the absurd.
That one kanye west song where he gets tied up and beaten with a shovel by a woman in a latex suit.
I teach guitar lessons and I was teaching payphone to one of my students and I was using the music video to play along to and lemmie tell you I was not expecting all that...
You're quickly becoming my favourite youtuber
Last 20 seconds of this video were perfect.
God, video killed the radio star still gives me a happy little feeling in my chest. Also, if you don't like rock me Amadeus you have no heart!
3:37 This would make a good senior yearbook quote
Weird and wonderful music videos are so fascinating, they have real layers to the weirdness.
Quinton Reviews your channel has to be the most entertaining thing I have found in a long time keep it up
I feel like Adam Levine wanted to make a movie, but had to do a music video.
Man, I wish you had talked about a Foo Fighters video in this. Those guys legit have some of the weirdest, funniest music videos ever
Like Learn To Fly, Everlong, and pretty much EVERY one of their videos? Yeah, trust me, dude I know, and I agree.
@@JuBeeZ106 Oh, trust me; I know that one too, but; thank you for reminding me. I know their song Walk. It's been one of my favorite songs of theirs. It's the one that where Dave Grohl, dresses like a nerdy office worker, dragging a guitar case with him, right? Great song, great video. Their songs know how to hype you up on something, and make you feel something. I mean; I was thinking about Walk while I was writing that comment about 2 years ago. It's one of the best songs they ever did, and definitely one of their best videos too. I'm surprised more people haven't really talked about it, and only thought about it, besides myself. But they're still one of my favorite bands. But Walk isn't my favorite song of theirs. But I do agree that Walk is definitely in the Top Ten Best Foo Fighters Songs, along with The Pretender, Learn To Fly, Everlong(I know I mentioned those 2 already, but I felt like saying it again), but honestly, every song of theirs could be an instant classic, no matter what, if you ask me...
The voiceovers for the guy hanging on to the car in the Stay The Night video were hilarious. Also I just wanted to say Quinton's videos get better with every upload.
This was an awesome video! Your insight into this is really interesting! It would be great is you did more videos about the subject!
There was an MTV ad on this video...
Old MTV: Beavis and Butthead
New MTV: 2017 Resolutions for White Guys
What Happened?
Amazing video, would love to see you do more of these!
Very surprised that I haven't seen more videos like this. You should do more of these.
Also, I was on pornhub the other day and one of the ads was for Danny phantom porn. So weird, it had Sam, Paulina, and the sister. Pretty weird considering the biggest draw would be Danny himself. As a young gal I would fantasize about him all the time
I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one. That toon boy was fine to 10 year old me
I didn't ask for this but it's great.
I literally just came back to this video because Gives You Hell is stuck in my head
You should make this a series! I feel like there are so many music videos with weird plots
It makes me happier knowing that someone spends this much time thinking about the same shit that I do
Hey Quinton do more of that, a series, got it?
Loved this video! Thank you so much for making it!
I want so much to like your content. Your potential is apparent, but so much of it, including this video is just sub par. Having established yourself as a good personality to me, and proving that you can make good videos gives me hope that you'll figure out the formula one day.
One of my favourites is definitely Coffee and TV by Blur.
I'm surprised that Quinton didn't mention Radiohead.
I'm glad to see how far you've come Quincy
“Can someone politely ask these criminals to wait til the Wiz Khalifa part of the song” had me crying laughing. PLEASE make more music video reviews this was such a good watch
“Hurricane” by 30 Seconds to Mars. BDSM randomness, beautiful cinematography, just all around weird video. All of their videos are like this.
I recently saw a vid about songs that are about something entirely different to what everyone thinks, some of which are disturbing! Music vids can add an entirely new layer to songs, and thus even more meanings or plots, like the ones here!
Holy shit, I think you've hit a goldmine for this series idea. I'd love to see a Part 2 with the Telephone music video you keep showing
That Bumblebee collection... I can see you're a man of wealth and taste.
I saw "Gives you hell" and I was like "OOOOOOOOFFFFF" I used to love that song as a tween
What's the music that starts playing around 14:52? It sounds a little g-funky ish, and I'd really like to know the name of it!
this should be a continuing series
This is a great series! Bring it on.
"I won't take no for an answer" that's aged wonderfully
Big Lover like a fine wine, with a roofie
Long-ago, women (some, not all) used the tactic of rejecting a guy, to see if he'll give up so easily, as what can be described as half shit test and half an assessment on her part to see how much he is really interested in her. Now though, we live in an age where social standards have made it harassment if a man looks a woman for more 3 seconds. Then again, the alternative is you literally driving away from a guy who grabbed your ass and him clinging to the side of the vehicle.
Picky Psychology Student or maybe they didn't and they just relented eventually because they were intimidated or whatever and knew thems the breaks.
