    I've been living in Thailand for a year and a half now. In my opinion, the health-care , food, infrastructure and lower cost of rentals wins out over the Philippines. The visas, language, woman, and driving on the right go to the Philippines.

      I agree apart from the driving, I'm British so I'm happy with the left.
      But I now live in Malaysia where the English level is better than the Phillpines, the infrastructure and health care, condo and food for me are all on par or actually better than Thailand and its like 25 percent cheaper somewhat surprisingly. Oh an visa situation is much better than Thailand or Phillpines for me at least.
      Of course a lot of guys go to Thailand or Phillpines for a woman and they may not like Malaysia because dating is probably more similar to 'normal countries' but my missus is Malaysian Chinese so I'm ok on that front.

    G'day from Australia. I've travelled through Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines. I've also visited Cambodia and Indonesia. There's different pros and cons for all countries. Personally if I was told, you've won $1 million dollars but you have to live in Thailand or The Philippines, I'd die happy. Just remember tourist areas are not the actual country and the women you find in bar areas are not the real women of that country.

      @@ItsMe_Philippines I haven’t viewed your channel for over a year or two. Great rapport and relationship. The way you two joke about your chemical attraction is the hallmark of a great relationship with a Filipina, assuming that’s the basis one wants from their relationship (i.e. others might want some deeper intellectual interaction basis, etc). I can observe you two have the mutual chemistry to stay together for a long-time. Given my 27 years of living and dating in the Philippines, I can attest to that level of *mutual* chemistry not actually being easy to find in fact, even in the Philippines.

    Being currently married to a Filipina for 7 years and before that to a Thai, I have spent long time in both places. I agree with most of you comparisons, especially on the food matter. Regarding pricing, I´d say that most things are a bit cheaper in the Philippines except hotels and housing. I would also say that in general, in my opinion, the family oriented values of a Filipina, when it comes to taking care of husband and children is way higher in the Philippines.

    • @joelb099
      @joelb099 Před měsícem +9

      Agree..especially if you get a Filipina from the province. They will take care of husband and children with what seems like more devotion..You forgot to mention communication aspect..Communication with Filipinas in general is sooo much easier than with most Thai women..Unless that Thai woman has studied English in school extensively or been exposed to foreigners for a number of years in a service worker capacity.., either overseas or in Thailand..Even then, their English is rudimentary and mis communication is very high.. i have had 3 past Thai gf and ALL of our major fights and such were caused by her not understanding my point of view, and even when you explain it for the hundredth time she winds up being very stubborn and inflexible..which could be common among Thai women as well..plus we haven’t even covered the materialistic aspect of Thai women…lol

      Unequivocally, Thailand wins in terms of efficiency and infrastructure. Actually contrary to popular opinion, although Thai food probably wins overall because the excellence is so ubiquitous, I must say that the more indigenous style Filipino cooking is f-ing awesome. The problem is that the urban Filipino diet (at least when they eat out) is horrible (overly sweet and oily with the toxic Frankenfood vegetable oils which humans never ate before the 20th century).

      i think in the Philippines you have a better chance of a genuine connection because of language , U..S. influence on culture since late 1890's Filipinos very familiar with U.S. and western culture . The country is over 90 percent Catholic , Thailand is Buddhist so the Philippines again is closer in religious beliefs for most westerners , family values , modesty , and humility are great traits of filipino people

      Having lived in Cebu City for nearly 3 years with my filipina girlfriend from Mindanao, and then later 1 1/2 years in Thailand and Cambodia, I find it’s a draw or tie between the Philippines and Thailand. I love both and the people in both countries are absolutely amazing. The visa situation in the Philippines is more condusive to most expats on Social Secutrity. Thailand is a wonderful option if you have at least $1,900 US monthly income.

    I have visited Thailand ten years ago and loved it but the language barrier drove me nuts. The food was fantastic in Thailand and more choices. I now live in the Philippines and it is great also. I think that the visa process and restrictions in Thailand are much more difficult than they are here in the Philippines. Either place is impossible for foreigners to own land but owning condominiums is equal in either country. I think vacations to Thailand is a great way to go. Plus it leaves you with options to travel and vacation in other countries in Asia. Philippines is a great home base for that.

If you’re wanting a relationship, slower pace life, and family cohesion, Philippines …..it is cheaper in Thailand and their food and medical has a upper hand. But the language and VA facility for vets is huge plus in the Philippines. I found the variety of beaches better in the Philippines for me. I noticed too if your wife is a nurse in the Philippines their education is recognized and a bit easier for them to transition to US or any other western country just by taking their NCLEX

    As a viewer of yours that have been doing what you are currently doing for nearly 18yrs. My Filipina wife and our 2 sons lived in the Philippines for approximately 7 years (full time) but we constantly found ourselves going to Thailand, Vietnam and were considering possibly moving there to find a more balanced lifestyle. Food, language, cost of living, medical, infrastructure, safety, and education for our children, just overall better for raising our family - were high on our list. We ended up selecting Japan. We ended up buying a beautiful home on nearly 20k sq meters (about 5 acres US) which we grow a lot of our own food and raise farm animals. It was extremely cheap to buy the property as it had been abandoned for nearly 10 years - we put about $30k and modernized / westernized the home (1 master bedroom with ensuite full bathroom, 3 bedroom, large kitchen + Dining great room, 2 office that can be converted in guestrooms, a large family room, single story with a large workshop garage fully covered and enclosed approximately 6,000 sq ft. Plus 2 large warehouses for our farm equipment. This is our main living residence. We spend approximately 70% of our time here and split up the other 30% between the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Sometimes we go to Korea or Singapore to mix it up a bit.

    Hi You Two!
    Some attributes are attractive in both The Philippines and Thailand. I have been to both countries numerous times over the past 20 years, hence my decision to spend time in both places. It was interesting to hear your takes on the subject, and I fully understand the positions you have on the subject.
    Maybe a bit of time in both is the answer?
    They have changed the tax laws in Thailand and although it is still in flux as to how it will end up, at the end of the day I think it is going to get more complicated to stay in Thailand year-round, as retirement money brought into the country will be taxed no matter where it comes from (huh????)...
    Maybe 4 to 6 months a year in Thailand, and the rest in The Philippines, with an occasional trip to Germany and the USA, just to add spice to the mix is the answer? Of course, age will be a factor in my case, less so with you two young whipper-snappers! The neat thing is, you have options that so many cannot even dream about! Sweet!
    In regards to the girls, there are angels everywhere IMO! I am not in the market, though, haha! All the "young bloods" can determine if this is a factor. I like beaches everywhere! More important to me is the language barrier (but this too is not a biggie for me)...Also, medical facilities and available procedures are better in Thailand for the most part (although that is changing)...
    Anyway...
    Take care and have a super rest of the week!

    I think if they enforced the traffic laws in the Philippines it would be much better. Some cities seem to have no traffic laws at all. There are some cities in the Philippines that do enforce the traffic laws and have actual traffic lights, driving there seems much better. Note, they are building more modern highways in some areas of the Philippines and it should relieve some traffic concerns in those areas. Plus they're building more modern homes and businesses in those same areas. Good luck Philippines 🇵🇭

      In many places in the Philippines the street traffic (cars, jeepneys, trucks, motorcycles, tricycles, and an equal number of walking pedestrians) can be a delicate dance between life and death. I'm always concerned when my wife visits family there.

    • @RJT80
      @RJT80 Před měsícem +2

      I never saw a cop pull anyone over in the Philippines but it mostly works. Thailand has better infrastructure and cops that will pull people over for traffic offenses but it's statistically you're more likely to be injured or worse in a crash there because they tend to drive faster. In the Philippines the lack of order is greatly mitigated by the fact people are very rarely in a hurry. Just cruising along. Which is a good description of PH in general. Speed is fun but it does in fact kill without German levels of organization and personal responsibility.

And how about those pedestrians who stand on the side, or sit on the top of jeepneys and tricycles? Such is life in the Philippines 😮

    Good vid Corey and Rachel. I have not lived in either place but have been researching bunch and my impressions lined up like what you mention. Infrastructure is a big thing for me, stability of the power system, covered drains and a massive street food scene is nice. The amount of modern shopping centers or choices seem to tilt in favor of Thailand. The downsides is the air pollution which is a big deal in the northern part of the country and big cities. I think I would be okay with driving a car or motorbike in Thailand but not so sure about Philippines just because I've seen how crazy they can be. I think where ever one moves, they should make a big effort to learn the language so they are not so dependent on others speaking English. Maybe get Rachel and traditional island fan so she can fan you when you are doing videos. 🙂

In my travels I passed through Taipei and I was all at sea. Nothing in English. Directions etc, all in Chinese. What a nightmare trying to figure out were to go. But I agree, the food selection is more restricted and wow. Yes you have to be careful on the roads. Anything from Trikes to Busses are happy to travel in the middle of the road. I have a motorbike, and the amount of times I've had to move over to the EXTREME right edge of the road to avoid being skittled by a bus. Watch trucks as anything smaller than them just doesn't exit. So they will just move out in front of you no matter the speed you are doing. Ho hum.

      @@user-zu5tv7zt6v - The BIG plus, is that it is VERY inexpensive here in Cambodia. I rent a 1-bedroom fully-furnished apartment with a balcony overlooking a grove of mango and palm trees from the 2nd floor. It includes a 50-inch SMART TV, a washing machine, free Internet and running water, all for just $200. US on a 6-month lease. Meals in restaurants run the gamut from $2 to $8 and US currency is used here. Beer in restaurants is anywhere from 50 cents a mug to $1 and mixed drinks like a Gin&Tonic is $1 to $2 so cheap living is easy here. On the downside, it’s nowhere near the ocean. It’s also very HOT here. I recommend Siem Reap very highly over Phnom Penh which is more expensive and crime is high. Siem Reap, no worries.

    I haven’t viewed your channel for over a year or two.
    I wrote the following before watching your video. As for the Thailand versus Philippines debate, I also explored that recently with a multi-month stay in Pattaya. I actually think Philippines is superior to Thailand if one has the means to do it right in the Philippines, because you will need acreage and build all your own infrastructure. Otherwise dependent on the spotty, and often oversubscribed Philippines infrastructure and development. In short, if you want to live in a urban area, want more efficient services, roads, etc, then go for Thailand. If you want to live in the provinces and have a laid back life with your Filipino family, then Philippines wins IMO. Example: Pina$$ govt double-widened the roads but then the Filipinos turn the right lane into a parking lot and coffee drying area,

    There's something more exotic about Thailand. You really feel like you're in a foreign country. One, there seems to be a lot of power outages in the PH compared to TH. Two, I found the Internet to be a lot faster and more reliable in TH than in the PH. It's also very inexpensive in TH, too. Three, the shopping malls in and around BKK are much nicer and provide a much bigger selection of stores than in PH. Finally, Thailand's visa options are a bit more complicated than in the PH.

      Having lived in both places - 2 years in Thailand with work, and 1.5 years in Philippines also with work (and now retired in KL) I respectfully disagree. But it's just my opinion of course no more or less valuable than yours.
      Specifically the areas I felt that Thailand wins out are
      Infrastructure, from transport to utilities.
      I found when I was living in BGC and Makati that just getting around was a nightmare, it used to be a nightmare in Bangkok too 25 years ago but the MRT and BTS make getting around the city very cheap and convenient.
      The trains and roads etc I think are much better standard.
      The airport and Thailand as a travel hub - absolutely no competition. I PAL is pretty awful and didn't even have a license for many international routes at one point.
      Plus Bangkok is just great for getting great deals to fly out of.
      Healthcare/ dentistry is for me just much much better than what you'll typically find in the Philippines. For that reason it's a medical tourism mecca actually. Is the Philippines? 🙄
      Accommodation in fairness I had a great condo in BGC but it was much more expensive than a similar luxury condo in Bangkok.
      And you just find very high end very affordable accomodation all over Thailand, I just don't see it as comparable with the Philippines at all.
      And how many brown outs did I experience in Thailand v the Philippines? Take a guess.
      For me the Philippines has better visa situation and it's English speaking ( to a point)but in every other way I prefer Thailand.

      @@willsmith39 and Philippines does not make it basically illegal to rent a condo short-term. Everyone is breaking the law by renting AirBnbs in Thailand.
      I as someone who lived in the Philippines from 1990 to 2020 (and visited Thailand for 3 months during winter 2022/23) I agree with your comments. Compare for example Boracay to Pattaya. Boracay does not even have a concrete road in front of establishments along the beach and those establishments are intruding on available beach.
      I prefer home cooked Filipino food though than Thai food, as long as instruct them not add vegetable oil nor sugar. More on the authentic, more indigenous style meals.
      Philippines is way behind on infrastructure but they made big strides during the rumpdemic, by for example double-widening most of the major roads across the entire country. And the malls and upscale retail are proliferating, e.g. brand new Robinsons malls in Valencia, Bukidnon, Dumaguete and Pagadian City. The Bukidnon Sports Complex is about to open to the public and an airport is under construction. Marcos says he will build the infrastructure over the next years to increase tourism 10-fold. The U.S. military is going to give him ~ $200 billion in exchange for use of the additional military base locations.
      ADDED: last time I flew there was no direct flight from LAX to Bangkok, but there is via PAL to Manila and connecting flight to Davao was easy and perfect for me.

    • @willsmith39
      @willsmith39 Před 17 dny +2

      @@Anonymint-vj7bt I presume the Boracay/ Pattaya part was trolling me for my better infrastructure comment. Obvious I was talking reliable utilities and a better airport etc not concreting paradise.
      I would never compare Boracay to Pattaya, one is a soddom & gemorah on sea ( although still 1000 times less gross than Angeles in fairness and has 5 star hotels and good food) sht#hole where the water isn't water id be keen to swim in and the beach is lined with freelance hookers of an evening and the other is a literal paradise which has sensibly put curbs on development finally.
      Boracay could maybe be compared to Samui, Ko pang gan or Ko Tao maybe but obviously both have amazing natural beauty which for me the Phillpines just edges
      I can't be bothered to argue about food, what's the point, I'm a big foodie and I'm adventurous but I honestly see no comparison, but I'm sure your home cooked food is delicious, home cooked food is delicious anywhere I guess.

    • @Anonymint-vj7bt
      @Anonymint-vj7bt Před 16 dny +1

      @@willsmith39 no I was supporting your point about comparative infrastructure. Pattaya’ infrastructure is leaps and bounds above the Philippines’ competing well known beach offering. I wrote that I agreed with your points. Your presumption is because you ostensibly think concrete outside of retail establishments is less of a paradise than trucking sand into McDonald’s with our sandals. Pattaya reserved a wide swath of beach front sand between the concrete and the tide line.
      As for avoiding development, I presume what you really need is Gill Bates’ global depopulation to the Georgia Guidestones’ stated 500m goal.
      I experienced (e.g. Mindanao) Philippines cowboy (raw nature) style in my youth in the early 1990s. That was very rough. How would like biweekly bouts with amoebas and dysentery?
      My food point is not so easily dismissed. For example, we could not find pechay in Thailand, only bok choi. It is not the same. Pechay is glorious, especially if you have adapted to eating for 20 years as I did living in Philippines so long. Thai food is interesting (curries, etc), but Philippines food is highly underappreciated, because you mostly will never find it as a foreigner, because when Filipinos eat out they typically eat fried and sweet food. The staple foods they eat at home are wholesome and delicious. You can find these dishes at some local Carenderias.

I would advise as a real estate professional, don't commit to buying property there, go, enjoy, rinse, repeat next trip, rent a condo or villa in an area you like as your base, being an absentee owner doesn't pencil out in the long run..
