Indiana was the WORST team in the NBA during the regular season at fouling and giving up free throw attempts because they were 24th in defense and don’t have structure on that side of the ball. They have a good rim protector in Turner but they don’t have guys who can prevent perimeter players from getting to the basket. They were also bottom eight in free throws attempted because the Pacers took more jump shots than almost any other team in the league this year, much like they did last night. Boston was first this year in allowing opponents the fewest free throw attempts per game in the NBA due to their perimeter defense and the fact that Porzingis allowed opponents to only shoot 44% around the rim, which was the best mark in the league. Add that the Pacers committed seven more turnovers and the Celtics grabbed three more offensive boards and that’s an extra 10 possessions of Boston probably driving to the basket. Even if they only did that 7 times, that’s an extra 14 free throw attempts right there if Celtics players are being fouled while slashing. Y’all need to learn how these stats are generated based on differing styles of play between teams rather than just assuming if a team had more free throw attempts it’s because the officials were favoring them.
