  • NCLEX select-all-that-apply (SATA) practice question about nursing interventions for congestive heart failure.
On the NCLEX exam, it is inevitable you will receive select-all-that-apply type questions. This NCLEX SATA practice question will test your ability on how to analyze a scenario for a patient with heart failure in regards to developing nursing interventions for the nursing care plan.
This video is part of a weekly NCLEX review series where I will be going over NCLEX-style questions with you. I will be helping you analyze and breakdown each question, and walk you through how to select the correct option.
NCLEX questions require critical thinking and you must know how to use your nursing knowledge to gather the facts and analyze what the question is asking.
For this specific SATA NCLEX practice question, you must know the pathophysiology of heart failure and the basics about the medication Furosemide (Lasix).
    NCLEX Practice Select-All-That-Apply (SATA) Question:
You're developing a nursing care plan for a patient who has a diagnosis of congestive heart failure exacerbation. The patient has bilateral 2+ pitting edema in the lower extremities, extreme dyspnea on exertion, and crackles in the right and left lower bases of the lungs. The patient is prescribed Furosemide (Lasix) 40 mg IV twice a day. Which of the following options below will you include as nursing interventions for this patient? SELECT-ALL-THAT-APPLY:
    A. Keep patient's legs below heart level daily.
    B. Weigh patient every morning on standing scale.
    C. Patient will verbalize 3 health benefits to following a low sodium diet prior to discharge.
    D. Maintain a daily fluid restriction of no more than 4 L of fluid per day.
    E. Educate the patient daily about the importance of asking for help before ambulating.
    F. Strictly monitor intake and output daily.
    G. Monitor potassium levels daily.
Watch the video for the correct answer and rationale.

Congratulations!!! That is SO AWESOME!! I remember you said in your last comment on the nursing school pinning video that all you needed to do was pass NCLEX. I'm so happy to hear you passed. Thank you for watching my videos to help you study during nursing school. I hope you stay in touch. I know that I and other viewers would love to hear how the job is going. I wish you the best on July 24th and in your new career as an RN.

Hi! I hope you can read this. I am JB from the Philippines. I took my NCLEX last March 21,2019 and I just found out that I passed the exam yesterday March 26,2019. I am so thankful for all your videos because they helped me a lot. I just self-reveiwed trying to trust myself, availing those free NCLEX questions on the internet because I can't afford UWorld but with the help of your videos, I passed the exam with 75 items. BTW, I prayed for a "less to No" SATA exam but almost 75% of my exam was SATA. This video is so useful. Thanks for the help in acheiving my dreams. More power to you. 😀😊

Hello :) I'm so sorry to hear about NCLEX. The exam is really rough and it sometimes takes multiple attempts to pass. So, please don't give up but keep trying. First, I would analyze how you have been studying in the past and tweak it. I found really the best way to prep for it is to literally practice 100s-300s NCLEX style questions a day (up until test day) over various topics and this is where your study resources come into play. Every time you practice questions, always go back and read the rationales of the questions you got wrong or guessed on. Then take it a step further and review the material in your review guide and of course what CZcams videos about the topic. Then go back and retest and see if you retained the material. Tell yourself that you are going to study everyday...even if it is for only an hour because you can get a lot accomplished by doing this. Also, give yourself time to study before you reapply to take the exam but don't wait too long. Keep studying! You can do it... remember what they say "third time is a charm" :)

Thank you for making it a point to say look at what the question is asking. I chose D which is a correct action by the patient but it is not a nursing intervention. Thank you for this tip. Sarah, you are a gem! as as I said before from a teacher's perspective...now nursing student.. .you would manke a great nursing school instructor! As for the SATA..I selected B, E, F, G..which are correct..but I also selected D..;-( and I know the 2ML fluid minimum. .but 4ml for fluid overload is too much..I wish partial credit would be given for SATA questions. .so unfair! ..I am really good at medica to install and their SE/AR..and whenever I see Lasix..I always think Potassium! !

The Internet is awesome lol! Yeah, I thought D would throw people off.....that 4 mL makes you think. I know, I wish that NCLEX gave partial credit for SATA questions...I was shocked to find out they didn't when I was prepping for the exam. Again, thank you for always watching my videos!

Thanks so much for these videos. I wish I had you as my med surg professor. You are very detailed in your rationales and that is important. I have a question about when people take lasix at home: how is potassium monitored?

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  Před 7 lety +1

Aww, I would have loved to be your med surg professor :) Thank you for the kind compliment. Typically, when a patient is taking Lasix in a pill they are getting regular check ups with their primary care physician who will be monitoring the potassium level. In addition, the patient is educated to consume foods high in potassium and to watch out for the signs and symptoms of hypokalemia. I hope that helps...great question ;-)
