Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of www.StohrerMusi... continues in his quixotic quest to inform and assist in this latest feature length video, which has been broken up into X parts. In part 1, we do an overview of the rather extensive but also fairly common damage to the horn and get started by fixing the bell lip dent.
Finesse is the word of the day. When it comes to dent work, finesse is the word. "Going a good job and getting a bit lucky". So true. Great video. I use Votaw's dent roller system. Pricey, but I use every roller in the set.
I’m not a musician(I have NO musical talent) but I love watching these videos. Such talent, repairing these damaged instruments. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well, if you like that you should get a tenor yourself
Halfway through I noticed it was going a bit "Flat". I nearly commented .. glad to see you came back and addressed that. I did a dented bell only two days ago. I was far luckier than you. Though the "Bend" was more pronounced there was no ridge And the metal was soft enough for me to do the whole with my hands. I have very strong hands though ..................... It really takes hours of fine adjustment to get it perfect.
I was looking to learn more about the workings of saxophones, but there's a lot of interesting tool content, too. Great videos.
Bad man for real . I would move or at least visit his area . Give thanks saxophone love and so much understanding oh my goodness man
Sharing this to the woodwind forum, nicely done video.
Extraordinary skill and patience. Nice job.
I wonder it you are familiar with the machine shop tool called gauge pins. They are a set in ,001" increments of 2 inch long hard steel pins. They are intended for precise hole measurements but have many uses. There are numerous sets starting at .01 dia to 2.00 inches. sets 0.01-.06, .061-.250, .251-.500....etc. These used to be expensive but now excellent quality sets made in China are dirt cheap on ebay. I am a retired woodwind musician and never needed much instrument repair, but I have many sets of pins that I use frequently in machining applications. You might find them handy in instrument repair. I use them for all sorts of things.
I have watched many of your videos and am very impressed. I love the trailer shop idea.

Not sure how old this Tenor sax is but I had bought a new silver Selmer tenor Saxophone in 1975. It looked an awfully lot like this one except when I owned mine it was new and like new when I traded it. Something I wish now I had never done as it would be worth a small fortune now. Back then the price was $1,599 new. Granted back then that was alot of money and as a teenager I had to work to pay for it. I also had a silver King Tempo trumpet as I majored on both instruments.
Will you please sign my saxophone? I'm your biggest fan!
Can u shoe us how to make up a new key complete from the rod to cup
Thanks for sharing the cool Saxs. I'd just like to see what your working on. Even if it was under a minute video.
The person who packed this rare sax for shipping should be ashamed of themselves, I hope they are the ones paying for the repairs
Why do folks play baseball with Selmers? :-0)
Nice work Matt!
