  • Modeling up a Simple Table using SolidWorks Weldments is easy. This video will take you through creating a 3Dsketch, downloading the latest Weldment Profiles off the SW website (via Design Library), adding them to your folder, and then using them to create a simple Table. Trimming and Extending, and End Caps are also shown. Then finishing them off using a Weldments Cuts List, and a Bill of Material.

Fantastic! Incredibly informative. Included a TON of great information, especially the little tricks to coax SW to give you what you want. Love the properties tips for BOM description and getting the auto balloons to switch back to the weldment cut list. Learned some things I never knew. Thank you!!

Very helpful, thanks! I thought I was crazy for putting each leg on a table in a separate group in a Structural Member feature, but it looks like that's how it goes.
Also good to see that eventually you do have to use trim/extend sometimes if corner treatments don't come out right even after trying different settings on individual corner treatments.
Learned about Weldments at a recent SolidWorks User Group meeting. Insanely useful tool for so much more than actual weldments. I think many could be helped by using this feature.

This looks so much better than inventor. I have only begun learning inventor but I think I wish I had solidworks instead. Can you give any advice about which is better? I have been drawing in AutoCad Mep for 10 years and used Autocad for over 20 years. I'm just looking for a new software to learn and wondered which is better. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for video.

In my opinion inventor and solidworks are very similar! But in the industries tday they use more solidworks then inventor. Solidworks is much easier to learn then inventor.

    ProgressionSupport,
So I have just installed Solidworks 2016. On my previous version it was easy and simple to use my weldments profiles. I do understand how load your own profiles or any kind.
Now the problem I run into is: When you right click on your tab you see your options: Assemble, Layout, Sketch, Evaluate and so on... And for some reason, and maybe I did something when I first started to use solidworks, it doesn't give me option of adding weldments tab? So I can't use it at all?
Am I supposed to do something in setting to be able to use this feature? Or maybe it's my installation was done wrong?
    Please help help!!
    Thanks,

About weldments, the only thing I wonder is why it's not available in the assembly?
Inside a part, there's a restriction in reusing each of these profiles in another assembly.
Plus linking with ERP/SAP becomes critical as well.
