Parents need to man up, the government has no right to control your kids
Amen!
More Government overreach.
I couldn't agree more.
You mean when Republicans try and do something that would actually be healthy for them like this. You're absolutely fine with Democrats controlling your kids.
I use to be a teenager amd we all know this is not going to work out 😂
LOL. Of course not! Forbidden fruit has a long history.
@@mikemondano3624 lol right
Its because your STILL A TEEN IN YOUR WAY OF THINKING, that's why.....you believe everyone thinks like you, like a baby ....ha,ha,ha,CHRONOLOGICALLY you've aged ( because you USE TO BE A TEEN ) but actually you still are,,ha,ha,ha!! So funny
Old Republicans who doesn't know about VPN.
Sadly if the restrict act happens then vpn will go away :(
Utah has no right to make this law. Parents should be controlling this themselves. Don’t have states do that for you.
"Controlling" is exactly the problem. Children and young adults no longer know how to make decisions.
@@mikemondano3624 I never gave my daughter a cell phone till she was 14 years old and when I did I gave the basic run down of possible harm and crap she could get into with the phone. She already had an idea herself but I was also strict on use in the house and at school. As a parent nowadays you should be more aware and if your not that’s on you and your kids. State can’t be the big adult in any of this.
@@mikemondano3624 So your saying this should go into effect? Just like CHINA’S Social Media and Video Game restrictions for kids?
can't wait for 10 years down the line we have widespread distributed CCP sponsored Microsoft sissy hypno for every single child in the world while parents are still doing absolutely nothing and people still use this counterpoint
Actually Utah has every right to do this. How else do you think driving is regulated? The state has a right and an interest in protecting its kids and citizens.
This is not a good idea
sounds like China now
This law won't last long once it gets to court. Children have the same constitutional rights as adults. Not sure what they must be thinking (but then the GOP doesn't think).
Children are not allowed to view pornography (well except now in school they are taught it). Children also prohibited from drinking and smoking too.
@@imperialmotoring3789 Children are not allowed to buy guns either. You full constitutional rights apply when you are considered an adult by law.
Generalizing a political party does nothing for making a statement. I’m independent but writing off half of the population as “not thinking” simply shows how closed minded you are.
Edit: But yeah, the responsibility to manage a kid’s internet access should be restricted to parents and then ToS for individual services.
@@JamesBond77 In School you also don't get your 1st and 4th amendment rights completely.
@@imperialmotoring3789 Yet, they do it. Over 80% of highschoolers have used nicotine vapes. Laws do not change biology.
Government stepping in to be a parent.
BTW, this law will not hold due to 1st ammendment etc.
That mother just needs to mom up and not use government to do it for her.
Telling parents how to parent. Utah should be more worried about the excessive force it's PD uses. That tends to hemorrhage taxpayer money more than anything else.
Bad because it forces everyone to give their id to social media companies not just kids
You mean Blacks won't be able to get on social media now? None of them have ID.
so what happens to the kids that break the new law? and the parents whos job it is to care for their kids
Kids these days are smart. They’ll never be able to totally enforce this 😂
Exactly. They have simply labelled the forbidden fruit to make it seem more delicious.
This is impossible to enforce.
@@PlanetJigobotTV Shut up, kid. You will have your internet time restricted soon.
How about parents just be good parent so we don't have to pay for it
Stay in school kid
If parents were good parents, the world would be crime free.
@@titan8084 That's true
Agree
Especially when we don't need anonymity potentially being demolish for the sake of the won't someone please think of the children argument,
if parents really did care about their kids they should be parents and not let the government and or Political CZcamsr be parents for them.
Ironically, the same people who blame poor parenting for gun violence and teen pregnancies also tend to have the most support for this law.
unlawful for government to restrict free speech in ANY WAY.. limiting what time someone can express themselves from the privacy of their own home is illegal. as for minors, that's the parents job to police their own children. NOT the governments.
But parents aren't doing that and little Jr and Missy run mom and dads life.
@@susannpatton2893 thats no excuse for violating the first amendment.
Still don't care
@@susannpatton2893 Oh well then that's a them problem not the states problem
@Earache no, poor parenting is a crap excuse for the people that they create and the public are having to deal with either. If the parent won't parent, someone has to. It takes a village to raise a child.
Practically, I don't see this law doing anything besides making parents feel (deludedly) as if they know what their kids are doing online. Having been a Girl Scout Leader, I can assure you that your kids are far more tech-savvy than this law takes into account, and have more social media accounts than they admit to you about. They know how to get past any age verification tools and create accounts MUCH younger than they're supposed to.
Putting the burden on the social media companies is great, but they won't change their entire platforms' login processes based on where the device is located when a person logs in. They're just going to let their lawyers wipe the floor with this state, crying "free speech" until the cows come home.
There are more social media companies than you realize, and for some of them, there is literally no possible way for them to ACCURATELY verify ages when people log in. This means that in the end, upholding the law WILL fall on the parents-- and few of them really know what their kids are doing online, because most of them are too busy on their own social media scrolling to notice.
🎶 Aaannnnd the laaaannnnddd of the freeeeeee!🎶
Except everything is illegal.
There is absolutely no way to enforce this law. What a joke.
You don't like don't live there. Pretty simple solution
@Muaythaimaniac ha! There is no way I would ever live in Utah. The reality is that It is impossible to control internet access for anyone in the US. Anyone can make a wifi antenna out of a tin can or a mini satellite dish that can grab open/public wifi from miles away. A simple cheep VPN and a few other tweaks...... poooooof. , it is impossible to monitor or track. I know 90% of people in the US, including Congress, have no clue when it comes to technology. But the younger generation will make the effort to bypass a ridiculous law like this. 50% or more of the parents are also too lazy to do anything about it.
@@DouglasWilliamsPDX 😆 🤣 😂 okay bud 👌 👍

What's that about the party of freedom? Hmmmm?
As if prohibition ever worked on anything.
Exactly! Look at the border!
Enforcement needed, not new laws.
VPNs will become a lot more popular
Another law to disregard.
Geeze parents grow a spine...
Not a terrible idea, but how about instead of blanketed banning from x to y time period, they let the parental control account set the limits.
Most don't do that because the kid runs their lives
It forces everyone in Utah to give their ID to social media companies. This needs to be challenged in court
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv hmm. good point. Not necessarily everyone though, only those that want to use the services, like when you rent a car or buy booze or smokes.
Having to ID yourself to use Facebook or insta or whatever is a pretty slippery slope though. Hopefully people will just bail on them, but I think a great number already voluntarily submit ID's.
@@AlexR_44 In the law a social media site is defined as "a website that allows you to respond to other users with more than 10 million users" by that definition Amazon is a social media site because it allows you to post reviews 🤦♂️
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv Like I said, a great a number of people already willingly participate.
Interesting info on the 10 million users, I did not know that, thanks. 👍
LOL the freedom party.
But you can have 50 wives still. Semi Polygamy is ok, not staring at a phone you bought on the internet you pay every month for.
Are we just going to go right through the fact that kids have a thing called, Wait this might shock most of you "Constitutional Rights" WOW isn't that shocking 😲😲😲 What has the world become.....
how about u improve schools!!!! if i was child in this age id fight back
This is something parents should have implemented in their own homes years ago.
When both parents have to work longer hours due to inflation now its kind of hard to I feel.
YEARS AGO
@@WeylandLabs no its not. You take the phone and have it in your possession. Easy. And your inflation comment is all the more reason to downsize that phone plan and save some money right
@@WeylandLabs That's a load of crap. My wife and I both work, and still maintain order within our house. Kids are at school during the day, so that's at least 6 hours of free time. You arrange your schedule for one to be home earlier on some days, than switch turns. I work 12 hour shifts, she works 10, yet we always find the time to be home, attend school meetings, plays, events and so on.
@@susannpatton2893 Its easy to say but not really easy to do, I understand what you are saying but the moral values of todays parents are different than other generations. Please understand I see how your argument is validated from actually parenting and being a role model. But a lot of societies parents don't think like that today.
Anything today can be over used to be harmful to oneself. From that overstimulated internet content can trigger dopamine effects like we see in addicts. If you automatically take that thing away from addicts they do what ? Rebel even worse from children or kids as they're brains are still developing in values and morals.
As for inflation well facts are facts and a internet bill isn't going to make that big of a difference. Also - If you didn't know you can plug into your WiFi router and restrict access for devices / modules no government law needed. If parents are this concerned in Utah about usage you'd think they would have educated themselves about that already. You don't need local Government to tell you how to parent your child, that's for ignorant weak minded individuals with addictive personalities.
Does anyone actually think that teens will not simply ignore this ridiculous law?
VPN's about to get a lot of new customers
They will just migrate to another app... discord?
Restrict gang activity on social media and make parents responsible
Am I still in America?
😂😂😂 it’s gonna be a civil war with people that can’t stay up late.
VPN has entered the chat.
Well anyway... You can live without it. 😂
Use a fake age lol
Yup criminalize young.creating criminals
Ah, Utah taking a page from the CCP playbook, makes a lot of sense.
That is the parents decision. Not the government. This is unconstitutional
Free country? Nah!
no chance this works, big money involved here.
This is bad, why limit a teen's access to social media, VIOLATION OF FREE SPEECH.
When it come to our kids and Social media, would you let your kid smoke 2 packs of cigarettes by themselves in their room every night?
What about kids that are in danger?
Kids are not meant to be raised by will subducting inferences.
This is unamerican
Okay still big government either way.
Parents are literally failing their jobs to parent their children. It’s hilarious and ironic.
Get this big government crap out of here let the individual choose
Quit letting them kids run your lives. Be the parent, limit the media time.
Thank God I live in Florida cause I can't live without Fb, Twitter, Twitch, & TikTok.. Shouldn't have to have a time limit that's STUPID.. Adults I tell ya 🙃🙄

How in the world is that going to happen? I'd really love to know how they are going to enforce this.
All they need to do is change there age on the phone or app.
Lol have you seen how congress questions social media companies.. They have no idea how technology works.
@@echolitis it makes you show id with this law
Well, it can't be helped. Tens of thousands of young teens every year are getting lured to meet sxual predators out there.
I'm betting there's gonna be some type of workaround when this comes to effect
The only conversions parents will have will be " i control your access" and no open messages with child/teen. If you dont want them online, cut the phones!
Pointless
Parents can take their phones away at night, done
Won't Teens just lie on a social media platform anyway when it asks them: Are you over 18 years old?
Yes, how will they verify age without giving social media companies access to even more personal data than they already have? For kids, especially.
My tech savvy father tried this when I was a teen, and I still found ways around it. You think tech sites are going to put any more effort into this than the bare minimum required of them? If you want to see how good kids are at getting around restrictions, go to any high school classroom and ask them how they play games in class. Kids are great at this.
Adults should be next.
So what. They're going to appeal it
Who's going to outsmart kids using phones and computers? What can a parent do that a kid can't undo or work around?
meta benefits of the pain of youth wether they know it or not
Good they woke up before the world ended
some people find happiness on the apps
What ever happened to free range parenting Utah?? Government overreach much?? Why is it we are not able to make decisions for them when it comes to their healthcare, but we are allowed to control their access to social media? Are we good parents or not? Doesn't make any sense.
I mean yeah but how can they truly enforce this?
FBI OPEN UP
nah but they will have the app block you because the business is under law.
As illegal as laws get.
I feel it would be better for SNS companies to be refused access to children and teenagers.
I wonder if children and teenagers really use SNS's and spend a lot of hours on their own wills...
I'm trying to figure out why the Utah government rather want to raise somebody else's children, but they don't want to allow something like student loan debt forgiveness.
Utah must have some weak caregivers.
But at the same time, all us regular people have to do is bust the firewall or access a VPN, and this would automatically be a failed attempt.
They must think hackers and coders don't exist.
This one is free.
@Nuusg Tattoo Free doesn't make it any better. If you can buy a phone or device for your child, should you know what parental controls are. They have them on all devices, and it's not hard.
People are just lazy, with no backbone.
All these actual free resources you can use on a child's device that YOU buy or someone gives, but you rely on the government to do it for you. Parenting at its lowest, laziness at its highest.
@PerryIceFire
Interesting that like so many nowadays, you point out flaws, yet completely fail to offer any positive advice or solutions
@John Dough There's already a solution to this. I'm not sure if you saw my other replies because of youtube, or you don't care. Not my problem.
But there's something called, *"parental controls"* on any device you purchase. There are also many other free parental control services, such as apps, and additional information. *Yet there's no solution or advice, so you rely on the government to do parenting for you.*
Great idea
How are they going to implement this? It is impossible... I hope they aren't going to suggest we upload our State IDs to social media companies 😂
Hahahahaha.... Dumbest Thing I've heard of or seen in a While!! Only The Mormons Could Think this UP!!! 😂😊
Nanny State a little??
oh good, we are on par with texas, that makes me feel better...not.
Ok this isn't too bad
Restrict act, Patriot act v 2.0..... is it good?......
Why not incorporating a timer so limit the daily usage time ? Then it simply logs out the child's account
Make a law about having vegetables mandatory in children's diet. Also, set a specific bedtime for them since staying up is bad for their health. While you're at it, why not ban games as well since it also has a negative impact on them.
And definitely ban books the government does not approve of. /s
That's exactly what I say about people cheering on curfew laws when a city makes one, it starts with a curfew, then after a while, they'll be restricting how often your child can eat a happy meal or something
It's too late. Permanent damage done... (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
Can you say petty tyrant??
So the Utah government doesn’t know how a vpn works, but I guarantee the kids do.
i have a job so i can just get a vpn 2 year plan than ill be 18 when it runs out lol

Unconstitutional
This is a big step in the right direction. Social media is harmful for adults as well. I went a step more and gave up all social media in 2020 and am less stressed and can enjoy other aspects of life.

Chinese ccp had it coming. Shut tiktok down
Put them to work, this bill is so soft that it doesn’t teach them valuable life skills. A day in the field teaches way them more than social media.
Easy there 18th century time traveler, we've banned child labor and slavery for a while now.
Agreed. But how about when signing up a social media account, have an ID as a requirement and the ID can't be used for more than one account. This would prevent many work arounds from kids having their own account or using their parent's ID. I think that if they're under 17, they should never be allowed to have social media access. Communication to friends and family can still happen through face to face concersations, texts, or calls. That's how it should be, and not through social media apps.
We need to tell other people how to raise their kids.
People who don't understand technology will alway play catch up
That is insane
And then one day a data breach occurs and now everyones ID is compromised! Great idea
Please please do it in all the country. This country it’s going mad. These kids are the saviors of the country and the whole world.
