great video!! thank you ❤ I’m still a somewhat beginner crocheter but as I look at different yarns, I calculate the price per yard actually as yards per dollar since usually it’s easier to see the disparity in cost & amount. it’s funny cause at the grocery store it’s so easy to see right on the stickers “price per ounce” & I’m like “I NEED THIS FOR YARN!!” lol
I love CraftSmart yarn it soft and easy to work with I been hoarding all of the colors. I love crochet blanket and need large amount of yard so this yarn is perfect plus the price is really affordable ☺️
Hey there. I'm new to your channel and just want to say thanks for the video. I absolutely love Joanns Big Twist Value. Now they have it in a pound and I love them even more. I crochet 99% of my work to give as donations to all charities and I find Big Twist to be my fave. Again, thank you for your video!
I also love value yarn! I don’t have Michaels near me so I’ve never tried craftsmart. My favorite of the mainstays yarn is the line with the sparkle in it. There’s a few gorgeous colors and it’s fairly soft too!
I LOVE the Hobby Lobby Crafter’s Secret Cotton. I make bath mats with the cotton yarn and my husband loves the mats. It’s his favorite thing I’ve ever made lol.
Hi, love your yarn video. I was surprised to see mainstay as part of your pick! I just love it and the price is right. I have never used the Michael's, we don't have one here. It does seem to be have to be having the same stocking problem as Walmart. There is never much there. Thank you again for showing your picks, I do enjoy your choices.
I really hope Michael’s isn’t getting rid of their Craft Smart line and replacing it with their Impeccable line. It is so affordable and such a good yarn. Thanks for watching and I agree, Mainstays is great! 💜😁
I really enjoy a good value yarn. I haven't tried Big Twist or Craft Smart but I agree they feel nice and will probablly join my stash, someday😅. I say use what makes you happy and will get the project done how you want it to be😊. The choices are endless. Thank you for sharing your list. There is one value yarn I'm familiar with that didn't make your list, Premier Basix. And I can guess why. It hasn't been sold in a brick and mortar store! It isn't anti-pilling but is a great basic yarn. Soft ,many colors, and it is made in three different weights. Maybe it would land in the Hobby Lobby category because of being online only. Have a wonderful day!
I liked your commentary and breakdown and I'm like you my favorite bargain is Walmart's mainstay it is a bargain it's beautiful it's soft and you don't feel guilty picking one up every week you can do a whole Afghan for about $18
I bought Retro Strips to see if I could color pool with it, but the more I look at my skein, the more I think it's not going to work. The color changes look long, without abrupt changes for color pooling. I think I might pull the skein apart some and see what I can do with it. Using it for a mosaic pattern with black seems really interesting!
Ok, can I just tell you…..I love Mainstay. I love the acrylic. I love the cotton. But yes, it is lacking in colors. If I know I need colors that mainstay has, I will go to Walmart (did I mention I hate Walmart). I made my grandson a Spider-Man blanket in red, blue, and black. It is gorgeous and washed so beautifully. I have not yet used the value acrylic from Michael’s.
I've never tried craft smart. Now I must make an order. I don't live near a Micheals store, but now I'm curious. I agree with mainstays. I love that yarn. It is great for kid things. My daughter has 3 boys, and they are so rough. I make them blankets, pillows, stuffies, and blankets and pillow for the stuffies. They drag them everywhere, inside and out, down the stairs and up the driveway. So far, everything has stayed together nicely. They have been washed a few times, and I did have to replace an eye once, but everything else is all good. I have used both Redheart and Mainstay, and both have held up great.
I think of the value yarns bought in stores I like the Mainstay the best but there just isn't enough colors. I end up buying Red Heart, love the colors but hate the feel of the yarn so I wash it and use lots of softener. I noticed the last blanket I made with Red Heart the yarn didn't soften as much as it use to. I wish my Walmart still carried Caron Simply Soft. I live very rural and my Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and Michael's just don't carry much selection in the stores.
The Joann's anti-pilling yarn is pretty great, I've used it often, but the issue I have with it is that I feel like it always lacks selection in-store, and has a pretty big price if you're not getting it on sale. And if I'm going to order anti-pilling yarn, I just order premier instead /:
I noticed when super saver changed where they are getting their yarn made in turkey now its much softer
Hmm. I haven’t heard that before. I’ll have to check out the yarn from Turkey and give it a try. Thanks for the heads up! 💜😁
I wasn’t surprised, I was educated. Thank you for sharing your experience with the top 5 values! Now I want to try the 3 I’ve never used. Thanks!
You’re very welcome! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. 💜😁
I agree with you about the Mainstay yarn! I really like it but I would love to see more colors! ❤
Yes! Come on Wal Mart. Give us more to work with! 💜😁
After you finish your project, if you wash it and use a lot of fabric softener, Red Heart softens up so much.
great video!! thank you ❤ I’m still a somewhat beginner crocheter but as I look at different yarns, I calculate the price per yard actually as yards per dollar since usually it’s easier to see the disparity in cost & amount.
it’s funny cause at the grocery store it’s so easy to see right on the stickers “price per ounce” & I’m like “I NEED THIS FOR YARN!!” lol
Thank you!
And yes!! Price per yard on the sticker would be amazing!! I think you’re on to something. 😁💜
I love CraftSmart yarn it soft and easy to work with I been hoarding all of the colors. I love crochet blanket and need large amount of yard so this yarn is perfect plus the price is really affordable ☺️
I completely agree! 💜😁
In Canada it seems that Michael’s has rebranded Craft Smart yarns to Soft Classic by Loops and Threads.
I wonder if it is going that way everywhere. I wouldn’t mind. Other than the price being the same for less yards, the quality is great.
@@ItsTimeforYarn I don’t think the yardage changed in Canada still 354 yards, maybe your balls had more then here.
Good info
Thank you! 😁💜

Yes! The pounds+ are HUMONGOUS. Such a great value. 💜😁

I forgot that you can’t go to a Michael’s. That really stinks 😢💜
@@ItsTimeforYarn ikr!?!?!?!
Fun!
Thanks this is very interesting! I use Red Heart a lot for the beautiful colors.
Their colors are unmatched. Hopefully they can figure out a way to make them softer. 💜😁
I LOVE the Hobby Lobby Crafter’s Secret Cotton. I make bath mats with the cotton yarn and my husband loves the mats. It’s his favorite thing I’ve ever made lol.
Fun! I’ve never made bath mats before. I’ll have to give those a try. Do you have a pattern that you enjoy for those? 😁💜
Thanks for this video 😘
I just bought some of the CraftSmart - and was surprised at how nice it is to work with. Super soft. I agree with your list.
Thank you! 💜😁

The price is amazing and makes getting yarn a possibility for some. Hopefully they will increase their color range soon. 💜😁
Lovely
Thank you. 😁💜

I agree that the color changes are too long and subtle. It’s a beautiful colorway though and I can’t wait to use it in my mosaic blanket. 💜😁
Im from Australia, even so you have taught me a lot..❤
Wow! Thank you for watching! 💜😁
I will say, ared Heart gets softer after being washed and continues to get softer with each wash.❤😊
I enjoy RH mostly for the colors and the fact that it holds up well after multiple washings. 😁💜
I still wish it was all antipilling...just think of that world 🥰
Price is pretty good, here at least. 🥰
Yes...I agreed..I love craftsmart..but it seems like they don't restock often..
Yes. I’ve noticed that as well lately. 💜😁

I like mainstays. And this vid i will be reviewing as its very informative. Thankyou❣🥰 < Hugs

Thanks for the information about Mainstays. That just solidifies my love for that yarn. Hopefully they will increase their line. We can only hope. 💜😁
Great video Erica!! I loved hearing your opinions!
Thanks Kristen! 😁💜

I wish my Walmart still carried Caron Simply Soft.
I live very rural and my Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and Michael's just don't carry much selection in the stores.
I totally understand. The struggle is real. 😊💜
Finnaly someone who feels the same about red heart 🤮
The Joann's anti-pilling yarn is pretty great, I've used it often, but the issue I have with it is that I feel like it always lacks selection in-store, and has a pretty big price if you're not getting it on sale. And if I'm going to order anti-pilling yarn, I just order premier instead /:
I agree. The price of the anti-pulling has kept me at bay. One day I’ll catch it on a deal and give it a try. 💜😁
Red heart has other yarn types.
Yes they do. Their Red Heart with Love is very nice. I was focusing on the value (super saver) line in this video. 💜😁
I refuse to buy Red Heart super saver. The texture irritates my hands, and the finished product is uncomfortable.
I concede sometimes when they have a color I really love but they definitely aren’t my go-to. 😁💜
