UPDATE: I realize I didnt mention scrapping CPUs and other tech. This method, while effective, isnt really plausible for the average person. If youre capable then by all means, picking up broken computers or solar panels can definitely be worth it to pull out gold, silver, and other precious metals from these materials.

Please find out if your CPU's Work and what they are going for on some sites before you Scrap them for Gold . We really need to keep a lot of that stuff around for Little Johnny's Computer Refurb in 2039 and this is Important No-one Makes Vintage CPU's so they can be Worth Way More than the Gold .

I get to go through the junk cars before they go to the wrecking yard and I have found silver coins including two ASEs ,half dollar coins, quarters, dimes and silver war nickels. I have also found Indian Head cents, wheat cents, Liberty Head nickels and Buffalo nickels. A lot of people leave behind their coin collections in their old cars. The best vehicles are when somebody was living in the vehicle before it got impounded. Old Chevrolet Suburban trucks and cargo vans and SUVs are the usual good hunting grounds.

Just a heads up don’t pass on gf gold filled it is not the same as plated. Gold filled actually has a scrap weight price per gram. Something marked 1/20th 14k is actually 5 percent 14k gold by weight so if you had a big piece that was say a wide bangle or heavy chain and it weighed 20 grams you would actually have a gram of 14k gold by weight. If you see 1/10 or 1/5 those are ten percent gold by weight and 20 percent gold by weight respectively. It is a niche and you need to research beyond my over simplified explanation but I have found gold filled before and am usually happy when I do because it is a pretty cheap way to pick up a bit of gold.

I have found silver and gold in costume jewelry bags. You want the birds nest of chains, ear rings cuff links, you will always find something, people get frustrated untangling the mess.
And I have never not found something metal detecting. I made my first metal detector when 9 over 30 years ago.
And I have lost count of coinage, I do have a count of 364 rings I've chalked up... Here's a good pointer on the metal detecting the lot of people don't know about. In rural areas, the mail was delivered in One direction so mailboxes were all located on one side of the road
Locate where the pull-off was for the mail vehicle and locate where the mailbox was, because a lot of times they would put money in the box to pay for the postage... Good luck, thank you

The wear could be more valuable because who made it or for whom they were made for. Get a coin operated business. I had small arcade & game rental business with a friend back in the 90s- we ran a magnet over the coins before we deposited them. remember to keep your eyes open my boy found a 37 quarter on the ground just few years ago if it had been in better shape it would have been worth more than the silver.
