First and foremost, I want to wish all of my fellow Americans and viewers and Subscribers a Very Happy 4th of July! I know many of us (myself included) aren't feeling that patriotic this year and rightfully so, but we do need to spread positivity and Celebrate what our Country is supposed to be about and keep on fighting for it. It is also a day we should honor those who are continuing to fight for this country, as well as those who have innovated and invented in this country over the years.
And to Celebrate, I couldn't think of a better way to do so than to ride some 100% AMERICAN-MADE Otis Elevators made by an Elevator Company that was once the most American company there is, Otis Elevator Company!
These elevators are located in Buffalo's 2nd Tallest Building, built in 1929 and this building believe it or not was actually a prototype for the Empire State Building in NYC!!! The elevators would've obviously been Manually Controlled originally and thus they technically aren't original, but the modernization of these elevators was done in the Early to Mid 1960s so the current elevators are STILL VINTAGE, and at 27 floors, going at a top speed around 600-700 FPM with ORIGINAL Square Touch/Heat Sensitive Buttons STILL in use, these elevators are still AMAZING in EVERYWAY possible! These are EASILY some of the best High Rise Elevators I've been on to date, both because of their sheer originality and charm as well as how fun to ride they are, which is a feeling of fun you don't get with many elevators due to the sheer rarity of High Rise Vintage Elevators!
The fixtures are absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and I'm glad to see them still in use given that Otis Touch Sensitive buttons are getting to be so incredibly rare, and the Cabs are also beautiful and very vintage looking too! They very much remind me of the cabs at the Starks Building in Louisville, while the COPs and floor numbering remind me of 621 17th Street in Denver! Not to mention, the MECHANICAL BELLs are absolute MUSIC to my EARS and to add to the EPICNESS of these elevators, unlike most remaining Otis Touch installations, these are in fact Autotronic, Otises' Original Fully Automatic High Rise Elevator system, which was very advanced for its time and is now sadly now in danger of extinction
Another thing about these elevators that is unique to this installation is that the far right elevator in the High Rise bank serves a SECRET Floor in between 17 and 18 that can only be accessed by pushing a button in Service cabinet! (which judging by the noises you can hear on that floor, it may actually be the machine room for the low rise cars!) I've never seen this before and it is so UNIQUE and COOL!
And not only are the elevators here amazing, but the building as a whole is absolutely amazing with BEAUTIFUL & Largely Untouched 1920s Architecture including functional PHONE BOOTHS in the lobby, and a Mini Bathroom on the top floor offering excellent views of Buffalo's Gorgeous and Historic Skyline!
And the BEST PART about ALL OF THIS is that according to the security guard and building engineer I talked to, they don't have any plans to alter this building any further, and that includes keeping the elevators original! They told me the elevators here are pretty reliable, and unlike many known remaining Autotronics, the elevators here don't stop on random floors or glitch, and it shows that good maintenance has really paid off here!
Unfortunately, this building doesn't have a Manual Freighter like many Historic Office Buildings do, the one here sadly appeared to have a Series M2 mod, but the fact they modded that elevator several years ago without touching these leads me to believe that all odds are pointing in favor of these elevators!
All in all, just some ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, GORGEOUS & AMAZING Historic Otis Autotronic Elevators in a BEAUTIFUL & INCREDIBLE Historic Skyscraper that are an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE when in Buffalo, and the best part is, Security here is WELCOMING to Elevator Enthusiasts and allow photography! Just be sure to ask before hopping on ;)
And with that all being said, I hope you guys enjoy the video of these AMAZING Otis Touch Sensitive Autotronic Elevators, and Have a Wonderful and Safe 4th of July!
Installed in 1929. (Manually Controlled Otis Elevators)
Modernized in Circa Early to Mid 1960s. (Otis Autotronic with Square Touch/Heat Sensitive buttons, New Lights, New Lanterns, New Controllers, New Motors and New Doors. Outer doors on some floors may or may not be original, Cabs likely left original as well.)

Just visited, and as of 9/11/2023 they are still 100% all original! What a treat! I haven't seen an all original touch button elevator in decades. One of the few survivors left. They run great and are fast with that classic Otis ride. Thanks for posting their location.

When you 1st started photographing the high rise elevators. You caught an ashtray for the disposal of cigarettes. They don't put those in buildings anymore. That goes back to the days where smoking was allowed in publicly accessible buildings. They don't allow that anymore

@@SPS8elevatorsoflakecounty Amen 🙏 bro. The older elevators were far more durable, had character, and you could do more with them. They dont make stuff of this quality anymore.

Ours in the UK in a hospital near me (1964) were the same buy with push round buttons. Partially modernised early 80s with Kone Marryat & Scott with Dewhirst buttons as they were very heavily used. They were extremely fast, with doors opening just as the lift nearly levels. The numbers used to skip as they flew up and down. Now they're some generic rubbish, all digital and a lot slower. I can still remember the 'ding ding' as the 'THIS CAR UP' sign and up arrow lit up on the ground the floor.

My experience here was very good. They seem to be very friendly in this building as long as you are respectful when you are here. If you get in, check out the bathroom on the 26th floor! It is a "loo with a view"
