On this episode of Destroy: Never, we’re talking about the biggest lil man in the game. Lil Penny was the larger-than-life alter-ego puppet of 4x NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway. If you’re wondering how he came to be, we got you. Penny Hardaway was a playmaking machine whose game was louder than anyone else’s on the court, but IRL he was actually very soft spoken and humble. Nike saw an opportunity to create an alter-ego (with the key word being “ego”) that personified the loudest parts of his game. Enter Lil Penny. Together, the two of them transcended basketball to become cultural icons. Are they the greatest duo ever? Let us know below.

And the puppets were originally supposed to be used as far back as 1992. They were going to do puppets of the 1992 dream team but it was scrapped
