It may be $3 at face value, but these old coins are worth more for their silver content. For example, a roll of Barber silver quarters may have a face value of $10, but the silver value of the same roll would be around $200 (give or take).

If you detect something just push some cat nip in the area and let the cat dig.lol.a dog would be better.
