Did you know the stutter is because as the song was being written, Randy Bachman's brother read the lyrics and had a stutter, and ultimately he liked the way it sounded and changed it.

I remember when I was little and my dad told me the name of this band when we were pulling out of my uncles/grandmothers, I rolled down the window and yelled "YO BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE!". I use to do that every time we left but I guess I grew out of it. 20 Likes and I'll do it the next time I go to my uncles!

My brother had this on 8-Track. These guys were my first rock concert! Late '74 or early '75 at The Cow Palace in South San Francisco. I was 15 and went with my Bro. The opener was some retro 50's style band fronted by some guy named Spike. I'll never forget we waited in line outside for an hour or two and then as soon as we walked in the first thing I saw was some blond chick puking next to a security guard.

I vote this greatest rock song of all time. That precision bass is epic in this song.. and the singing.. and the guitar... it's epic. Was just a jam track, but damn. Struck gold!
Deceptively perfect simple song. "took-what-I-could-get" a percussive lyric line followed by the simple "1, 4-1" simple riff... So fun and "efficient"? (Their debut album is in my keeper stack too. Check it out. Lots of fun stuff.)
