0:00 - 0:20: Sorry about the clickbait! We will work on that! It sometimes gets out of control!
0:21 We are going to talk about two things that are related and one really made me think
0:31 Over the weekend, the first leg of the Chelsea vs Barcelona Champions League semi-final match! I think a lot of people thought Barca was definitely going to win!
0:45 Chelsea stuns and wins! Barca's first home loss since 2019!
1:05 Happy For Chelsea but sad for Ona and others! Kiera was crying? I would be!
1:22 Barca can still come back and win!
1:32 One person was not there - Chelsea Keeper Ann-Katrin Berger. She is going to the NWSL Gotham FC!!! WILD!!!
2:00 She was there for six years!
2:11 Not a shock. She had not been playing, and it seems like she and Emma had a fallout.
2:45 We read from an article about Ann-Katrin being out of favor.
3:24 It seemed like there was something going on. Emma then made the comments about player/player relationships being inappropriate - problems with Jess and Ann?
    4:00 Jess spoke up?
4:25 Emma couldn't help herself and made the comments. She was dealing with it, so she just spouted off?
4:50 Reports that Ann-Katrin was banned from Chelsea squad training with the boys. German boss claims.
5:30 We read from an article about Ann being banned, but Emma denied the claim
6:14 The situation seems very tense.
6:28 Emma's comments were hurtful. Jess made that clear sticking up for GF?
6:50 What does this mean for USWNT and Emma? Could there be a problem?
7:28 Jess was the problem? (No, but some could make that point.)
7:41 Being a coach, you gotta manage on and off the pitch!
8:06 We read comments I saw on the web. Jess will leave soon?
8:27 Ann-Katrin iced out of the squad after Arsenal loss?
8:52 Good comment about the situation.
9:10 Icky feeling - Emma going to the USWNT. Could there be a situation?
9:35 Player of the Match for CL match was Jess Carter! Played great!
10:00 What a 24 hours for those two. Hope Jess and Emma have come to an understanding.
10:25 Jess is happy for Ann but still sad. Bittersweet!
10:52 Will there be stress on this relationship? I don't think so!
11:13 Other coaches have been asked about what Emma said. New Coach for Ireland, Eileen Gleeson, was asked about relationships on teams.
11:45 She answered and said they can be a feature. And having boundaries and being aware of impacts are important
12:40 Does "feature" mean positive? Or neutral? But it is a net positive overall!
13:03 She seems very supportive. She understands the impact of relationships, especially after the Ruesha-Katie situation.
13:47 The second I heard about Ann leaving, I thought it was a direct result of Emma's comments.
13:57 Emma's comments were hurtful, even if she made a point. But two things can both be true.
14:10 Emma has a lot on her plate. If Emma wins CL, it will be frosting on a cake?
15:00 Anyone surprised by AKB leaving? Lasting effect for the USWNT and Emma?
15:30 Everyone understands, but the internet always remembers.
15:45 Managing USWNT is about managing its personalities, which is always tough.

The big problem for Ann-Katrin Berger is the competition in Chelsea among the goalkeepers. There is Hannah Hampton, who has a great season and is slowly starting to compete with Mary Earps for the number 1 position with the Lionesses. Then there is Zećira Mušović, who had a great display of her skills at the Worldcup as Sweden's number 1.
The problem with AKB is that she's "only" number 2 in Germany and thus might have reclaimed more playing time to be able to make it to Germany's squad both for the Olympic Games and for next year's Euro.
Emma Hayes might have thought about losing Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder last season and feared losing Jess Carter because of similar issues. This could be why EH made her remarks on player/player relationships.
For Ann-Katrin Berger it is important to join a team where she could be number 1. Let's see what Jess Carter might do at the end of the season.

When Emma stated the inappropriateness of player to player relationships she did give the example of the couple dilemma when one comes to end of contract and if they are an older player. Initially, people thought she was alluding to Magda Erickson and Pernille Harder when they moved to Bayern last year. Maybe this ( Ann Katrin Berger’s contract) was in play when Emma gave that unfortunate statement. It seems to fit.

Could the main reason be that she fell down the goalie pecking order and EH would not give in to any pressure from AKB to put her over Hannah as Hannah is hard to drop at this moment in time. A simple reason which I personally think is the more likely.

  • @GuyJames
    @GuyJames Před měsícem +9

this is pretty speculative IMO. why would AKB leave because of EH if she knows EH is leaving anyway at the end of the season - just wait and see if the new coach likes you or not. Hayes prefers Hampton for her distribution skills and plus the injuries hasn't been picking AKB, so she's taken a better offer from another club. of course the comments from EH didn't help but I don't necessarily think she was pushed out for anything other than footballing reasons.

In the video, I mentioned in the clickbait that I hope the thumbnail doesn't imply anything other than being pushed off the squad, since AKB had already been 'out' for a long time. Just wanted to make a note about that!

Berger was on the way out anyway and has been for some time. However Hayes saying what she said was unhelpful though she has apologised-she should have used the word problematic instead of inappropriate. Obviously carter is upset and that could be a big problem. As for the USA situation either stop her from managing or let it be. It would be idiotic to let her manage and then start sniping.

seems that most people understand that EH is under a lot of stress and has said and done a few things she might have done differently under less pressure. basically if the USWNT wins she will be fine, if they lose all this will be dragged out again and used against her

I completely agree with what Coach Gleeson said. It's perhaps different in a team of minors, but as adults, we all have responsibilities in any social setting, and one of those is appropriate behaviour within the context of the club. That's just what's required of mature adults. The other thing is that rules are, fortunately or unfortunately, made to be broken, so even just having those kinds of rules is a potential invitation to trouble. People are people. Cheers!

I think you’ve got events in the wrong order here. The fall out with akb happened first, the comment about relationships came second.
They didn’t fall out because of the comments - the comments were obviously directed at the fall out with akb and how that affected Jess.
I’m not making a value judgement on the comments by hayes but they certainly didn’t fall out as a result of those comments.

  • @danielaesposito8315
    @danielaesposito8315 Před měsícem +1

There might have been an issue, but the comments didn't trigger it. I think people forget there's a whole process to change clubs in regards to approvals, international spots, visas etc. This has likely been in the works for a while. There's a ton of competition in the keeper role at Chelsea. It sucks, but sometimes it just comes down to business.

  • @marshallsdocumentariesandr6439

I follow women's football & not men's. The freedom the female players enjoy in being their true selves is a great example for all sport. E.g. I love Beth & Viv as a couple. However, please if you can name me one company / professional organization that encourages interpersonal relationships. Not one that I have worked for in over 40 years. If some managers are Ok with it good for them. Emma is the ultimate pro, if she 'as the boss' doesn't feel it appropriate then that is her prerogative. There are Chelsea females that are in relationships (Fran & Maren), so it is not forbidden. You say "What does this mean for the USWNT"? It means nothing....as stated she doesn't stop it from happening. She gives a truthful answer to one question (that no other manager has been asked to my knowledge) & everyone starts up the conspiracy train....including you ladies which I find disappointing. Let's not mention the amazing career & opportunity she gave AKB, just the theory that she forced her out of the team. Goalkeepers have a relatively short shelf live in most teams. Switch your focus on what good Emma will do for the USWNT not this background noise.

Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde are in a relationship and that hasn't been an issue. Well at least in public anyway. So I don't think Emma Hayes has a problem per se with relationships within the team but it can add an element of complexity to any situation

Well the payout to bring Pernille Harder to Chelsea in 2020 was the most ever at the time. She was one of the world’s best players too. I don’t think Emma Hayes has a problem with relationships per se, just when it causes problems as she articulated. This league is not a charity or amateur status, it is a business and the level is rising exponentially.

Hello Sara and Sarah. I think this might be a sneak preview for Emma as US manager. I reckon anything that stops publicity about football related issues will not be tolerated. I think she will not worry about single players. They will be told bluntly where to go if they do not give 100٪ to her as manager. It will be her team or "Get out, shut up and never come back", if her videos are anything to go by. On the up side, as this week, it is likely to be her losing opponents in tears. There are lots of players out there and I imagine she will care only about ones that do everything they are told to. Nothing succeeds like success and the winning will be more important for money long term.

I guess, AKB wants to play, and she is in the end of her career, so she decided to join a US team to earn some money for her retirement and play for a colourful team like Gotham FC. One part of her leaving might be the Emma Hayes behaviour, but Emma is leaving Chelsea, so she won't has any influence who will be playing in the next season. Blessings from Germany

I think it’s very telling that Emma Hayes gave Jonas Eideval a big shove when he went to shake hands after Arsenal beat Chelsea for the Conti Cup. She accused him of being aggressive on the sidelines and as far as I know, she’s never apologised. I’m not impressed with someone who is supposed to be a role model in front of her players and little aspiring girls everywhere.
