9:03 the course is named "donkey_course" because it was written over an early version of DK Pass in the final game, in the Kiosk demo, it's just called "pinball_course"

As a MKDS modder and prototype explorer back in the older days this course along with the proto Yoshi statue in Delfino Square really fueled creation. Thank you swanky for telling everyone the memories us people experienced long ago!

Since this was originally a "Luigi themed stage", I'm guessing it was suppose to fit the gambling motif Luigi has in New Super Mario Bros/Super Mario 64 DS in those game's Mini-game areas.

The beta / unused Mario Kart DS tracks, items, features, etc always fascinated me. I had a bunch of beta Mario Kart DS roms on my R4 back in the day just to tinker and explore.
Everyone called that early version of the course "Luigi's Cookie Pinball"

My question is: Would Waluigi Pinball be as popular if it didn't have Waluigi's name attached to it?
It wouldn't be as popular, I mena the track layout itself is meh and if it didn't have waluigi in it people would like it less
Waluigi is what makes the course special, if there was no waluigi then it would just be a fun pinball track with funky music instead of a fun pinball track with funky music including Waluigi
there are no invisible walls in the prototype version, so if you go the the right after you turn left from when you get to the top, you can go off the road and go to the place where the roundabout would be in the final version, which still counts your lap, it's simple and saves time.

The “shortcut” at 10:45 is likely the Ball Return when you lose your ball much like a real pinball machine.
Was probably removed due to it being frustrating as you’d easily be losing time/the race because of it.
Sometimes being too real isn’t fun.

What's interesting to me is that Waluigi Pinball's beta has "Wariokart" signs where the jump is in the final. I'm surprised no one else has made a remark about that yet.

Mario Kart DS was my first ever Mario Kart game and, thanks to my Action Replay, it’s also one of, if not the first video game in which I learned more about beta versions. I had the chance to play beta versions of this track, and of my personal favorite, Dokkan Course, many many times.
That’s probably one of the reasons I’m so passionate about the development of video games, nowadays.
Two Waluigi’s in a row! First this, then soon after Game Theory released a Waluigi theory! Best day ever!
The donkey_course name of the unused variant in the final is a simple mistake on Nintendo's part.
In the actual MKDS prototype that beta version of Waluigi Pinball is under pinball_course, and donkey_course is a prototype of DK Pass.
There never was any Donkey King Pinball.
That simple mistake is the only reason why all 3 variants of Waluigi Pinball are in the files of the final game.
Otherwise, we'd just have the earliest version, and the final version Waluigi Pinball, plus an early version of DK Pass
And yes, we do have prototypes of MKDS. Months before the release of the final game Nintendo released two demos that pre-date the final release by months.
You can easily download them too. Not to mention that the US version of the Demo is one of the most common and easy to find video game prototypes out there.
They printed multiple copies of it to send out to stores.

I realise this is 2 weeks old, but I just wanted to say that Waluigi Pinball was one of, if not; my favourite track on the DS
I loved daisy’s cruise ship as a kid so much for some reason idk why maybe the water and just a big boat I found it very cool plus all the good memories playing double dash with my dad and cousins and DK mountain is amazing also now we just need it in 8

Me and the boys boutta play Waluigi Pinball to see who's the chad of this stage still.
Waluigi wasn't only associated with Dirt, like Wario in Mario Kart : Double Dash!!, but obviously Mechanised Piranha Plant, like we can see in the Waluigi Stadium, a Reference to Mario Party 3 where he is associated to Piranha Plant as well. There's also Fire Balls like we can see in the Bowser Castles, but I guess you just miss that point as well...

So the beta version of Waluigi Pinball was supposed to have a chunk of a city?
And in the final they replaced it with colorful dots mimicking city lights. Which again in tour where the color dot lights were changed into actual buildings referencing the beta track.
I doubt that one part was ever meant to be drove up, the walls make it look more like a concept FOR the flying tunnel, but they just wanted to have something there before they could actually program that which makes perfect sense. Everything else is great though!

Waluigi Pinball is overrated. Yeah I agree that Waluigi is underrated, but he has no exceptional courses in MK.
My favorite pinball race track definitely goes to the Cartoon Network Racing track
