I just found your channel, love your videos. You got a new subscriber. I stopped colouring my hair last March when I started working from home. I am 57 years old with almost 100% grey, when I go grocery shopping I do not mind it, but next week I will be meeting some friends after years and I have started feeling a bit conscious. I wish I was more confident about my grey hair.

Thought I would never let my hair go grey and then I got breast cancer and bald. As it grew in I was glad for any nair at all. Now it looks almost exactly like your ( after 6 months ) very curly and silver . Everyone loves it and so do I . At 73 I am a survivor and proud of my silver hair . Love you and your uplifting videos.

Been there in the past ... 2x BC survivor ... my hair hasn't got to the really gray stage ... at 68 it is still more pepper than salt. I am hoping the rest will turn soon. Blessings for a healthy future.

I am 3 years out from breast cancer. Lost all my hair during treatment and I love my new hair. I have several different shades of grey, silver, ash, and dark grey. I find that it looks better with the natural changes in my skin.

I coloured my hair for so many years - I finally decided to embrace my white/grey - went to my hairstylist and said "chop it all off and just put in some highlights" BEST decision. I love my NEW hair so much and I love my pixie cut - I will never colour it again.

Hello from Greece. I'm 58 and never colored my hair, which now is something between grey and light brown. I took the decision never to color my hair at my early twenties. My mom was at my today age at that time and sent me to a famous hairdresser in Athens to cut my hair. While I was waiting, a lady around 60 entered the room. She was tall and had long, almost white hair. She was very well dressed and was so, but so impressive. I not only took my decision at that day but I also persuaded my mom to stop coloring her hair. Today people think I spend a lot of money to achieve my hair's color and when I tell them it's my natural color they are impressed. I strongly believe that at this age it's much more flattering to have the color nature has given you, plus it saves you from lots of troubles.

This was such a fun video and I really enjoyed seeing your photos! About 8 yrs ago I signed up with our local childrens cancer society fund drive. It was to shave your hair for charity. I signed up then spent a week panicing wondering what I had done. Then the donations from friends and family even people I didnt know started pouring in so I couldnt back out. At that point I had been dyeing my hair for years and I had just below the ears length hair. The day came and I sat on a stage surrounded by lots of people I had never seen in my life as other people also waited their turn to have their heads shaved. I was amazed to discover I had quite a nice shaped head ( thank goodness). When my hair started growing back in I decided there and then I wasnt going to colour it anymore. Ive kept it super short ever since. Every couple of weeks I will wash it with purple shampoo which helps to keep it from getting brassy looking and gives the silver grey added sparkle. I love the freedom!! x

I started my silver, gray and white hair journey in 2012, when I shaved all my hair off for CancerFreeze and to honor my beautiful mama who was a 9 year breast cancer survivor. I did it to honor her and decided I would never color my hair again. For a year I just buzzed it off every 2 weeks. Then I let it grow in an asymmetrical longer the side pixie cut, I loved it that way. And now I am trying to grow it in a short curly bob. I love how your hair looks, so I too am on a journey of growing out my silver, gray and mostly white hair which is naturally curly and wavy. I love wearing head scarves, and my favorite is wearing bandanas in a variety of colors and patterns. It compliments my dark royal blue presciption glasses I have to wear and I spruced them up by adding my own bling on each corner. I have never regretted shaving off all my hair, and the best thing that happened was it is the same color my beautiful mama had:)

Your style and energy are just wonderful. I’m now 54 and took 2 years growing out the different shades of dye. I was so disappointed as it was so dull and dreary. I lived with it for around 18 months but finally decided before Christmas to have a play and add some colour. I think there wasn’t enough grey to look good, I looked like I just couldn’t be bothered......which was in fact completely true!!! The great irony is that we have of course been in lockdown , so my (and a hefty proportion of the population), natural roots are well and truly growing through once again 😂. Stay well and keep happy everyone

Love your videos. I just found your channel and I am so impressed. I am 71 years young and colored my hair for years and years. Finally one day I just decided to let the gray come through and never looked back. I never had a demarcation line, just the gray came in here and there and now I am salt and pepper. I also have curly hair and decided to stop straightening it at the same time. Too much bleach and too much heat and now I have healthier hair. I am going through a crisis right now as to what to do with my hair. It just never seems to look right. I may have to change products or something. Anyway, thanks for sharing and I look forward to many more videos.

Hello Kerry-Lou! First let me say how much I love your channel. I really look forward to seeing you and your lovely smile. My story is a funny one. I have never dyed my hair, it started graying when I was in my late 20’s. I had two young boys then and couldn’t be bothered with hair dye, let alone afford to pay to have it done. My hair was very healthy and quite wavy and thick and I got many compliments on it, despite the silver strands. Fast forward to my 40’s. I became an empty nester. All of a sudden I had more time on my hands and all my friends were experimenting with new hairdos and hair colors. They were looking so cute and sassy while I thought I was beginning to see an old lady in the mirror with more and more gray hair. One day I picked up a box of Loving Care in the grocery store. Fully intending to surprise my husband by becoming a beautiful redhead by the time he got home, I first hurried home to meet the plumber. As I was paying the man, he said to me: « Please don’t think that I am being too forward, but I can’t help but notice how beautiful your hair looks in the sun. You need to know that many men love gray hair like yours and I am one of them. You must never do anything to change that beautiful color. It really suits you ». I of course thanked the man, he went on his way and I never saw him again. But I ran into the house and looked into the mirror and saw a different woman looking back at me. I put that box of Loving Care into the back of the cabinet, thinking that I might try it some other time. I am now 75 years old, and still getting compliments on my hair. Oh, by-the-way, that box of hair dye is still waiting in the back of my cabinet.

I stopped dyeing my hair two years ago when I was 51 because I was just tired of the whole thing. It was jet black at that point. I did a bleach to lift the black and ease the line of demarcation, which caused breakage (because of having to dye it so frequently!). So I cut to a shoulder length Bob and haven't looked back. My hair is now very long and to cover the blorange ends I've been using the fashion color depositing conditioners like Arctic Fox or Manic Panic. Sometimes I use a color just to ash out my length, sometimes I go for pink or purple because why not? And my growth, now from my chin up, is very salt and some pepper. And you know what? I get people stopping me all the time to tell me "omg your hair is so cool!!" So I'll have a purple ponytail and silver on my head. And the best part is it's conditioner so my hair loves it. And so do my kids and my husband. I earned the stripes. Anyone who thinks it makes them look older should consider this--i see plenty of women who dye their hair and it just looks fake, cold, and harsh which makes them look older. And at my age throwing highlights in to "blend" the grays doesn't blend them, it just looks dated and not very modern. Might as well have a perm or feathered hair. And why be part of the over 50 blonde brigade?! Nature gives us the colors that suit us best, and that includes the gray hair. It softens our features as we age and our complexion and tone change. I tried at 45, changed my mind, and tried again. My hair is happier and so am I. My mom stopped dyeing her hair a few years ago and at 77 now has the most beautiful snow white hair.

My grandmother was snow white at 28. So, we gray rather early in my family. My sister & I kept our hair colored, my sister as a blond, because that's the color of the women's hair on my mom's side, me I was born dark headed like my dad, so I kept my mousey brown, a red/auburn shade. We decided in our 60s, me at 60 & her at 56 to see who had the most gray. She is a beautiful snow white like my grandmother and me, well a silver, peppered still with a little brown. But neither one of us have thought twice about picking up the dye bottle again. I have certainly enjoyed the freedom of time & saving of money.
Loved seeing your pictures of youth. You were and are a beautiful lady.

Kerry Lou, I love your hair at this stage, love the curls and color. My mom was the oldest of 9 girls (can u imagine!), one of them was a hairdresser, so the gang would get together every month and the hairdresser would take care of their hair, so I never saw any of them with gray hair! I couldn’t wait to see what color mine would be! After all that, I am 66 and the gray is in the front only and the back is now very dark, it’s pretty cool, cause I’m growing out my pixie to a short bob. The way the gray is coming just seems like it belongs; it very freeing!!!!!!✌️💕

When I retired and changed jobs making half my original salary, I had to give up some of my beauty habits. Because my hair was short and it grew so quickly, I needed a cut and color every 6 to 8 weeks. The cost was too much for my new budget...so, I decided to let it go grey. I have never regretted the decision. Although my hair is not as solid grey and beautiful as yours, I do love it. And since COVID hit, I have also been cutting my own hair. You do what you have to when the need arises. I actually like doing my own hair because I can trim it every two weeks and keep it at my favorite length rather than that freshly cut look that needs to grow for a week before you can style it as you want. Thanks for sharing. What a beauty you were and are now!

Hi, Kerry-Lou, I am 66, I live in Brasil and I love your videos! I enjoyed very much your graying story. I also have gray hair now. I keep it medium. Let me tell you my "hairstory", as you said. When I was 50, and got my divorce, I already had some gray hair. My friends then told me, since I was single again, I should die my hair to look more young and attractive. And so I did. I kept doing that for 10 years but it was not easy to find products that didn't cause me allergies and finding the right shade similar to my grayish brown natural color. also was difficult. All that chemicals would make my hair quite dull and dry . I would look at myself in the mirror and find that my hair color didn't go well with my wrinkles. I felt like a fake trying to look younger (and not having success). That simply didn't make sense anymore. And I didn't attract any new relation, either. I also analyzed the costs of dying my hair every month for 10 years and I found that with all that money I could have traveled to Europe (and I love to travel)! So I decided to go gray and let my hair grow naturally and give a better use for my money and my time. And so I did, not without hearing some bad opinions... but I kept focused. And guess what? I felt more authentic, strong and proud of my natural look! My hair stylist helped me finding a nice flattering cut. I went to Europe and soon after I came back I met my boyfriend.

I decided abt a yr ago to stop covering my grey - which by that time looked already white! I didn't want to be a slave to it anymore. I have a few very tiny spots of blond that will be gone at my next haircut.
It's very curly and i have those same forehead spiral as you, Kerry. When I was in Florida in Jan some people just couldn't help themselves to "boing" it! Imagine! One little girl couldn't take her eyes off it so I asked her if she wanted to "boing" it. She was thrilled! So, I am back to the color of my childhood & it didn't hurt so much! It's very freeing. Of course I'm not so happy w/my wrinkles, but I've pretty much quit looking in a mirror once I retired. You are so gorgeous! And seem as beautiful on the inside! I'm throwing away all my old makeup & trying your picks from your recent how-to make-up lesson.

"Dalai Lama or Aerosmith - same thing"! That made my day! Think you are doing so well with growing your hair. I have hair very similar to yours, but the curls do not look good on me. I do it once in a while, but much prefer it short enough that I can blow it straight and funky! However, I did decide to keep my silvery white quarantine hair - and recently had my stylist (yay!!), cut most of the growth off, then highlight the remaining colored hair to match my roots, so there is no line of demarcation. I really like it - not totally white yet, more a platinum white (I was blonde), but in two more haircuts it will be all mine, no color!! The best part was her cancelling my next color appointment (I make appts. a year in advance!), and make it just a cut! You are an inspiration!

I’ve watched my mom struggle with the dark brown hair dye grow in for almost my whole life. I knew I didn’t want to deal with that, so I made the choice to just let the grey comes as it comes. I’m greying much slower, like my father, so I have just a handful of greys at 45. I like to call it my sparkle, because they really shine against my dark brown hair.

I'm was very lucky. When I decided to stop re-touching my chestnut brown hair, it started coming in Platinum--the same color Platinum Blonde that Marilyn Monroe has in her last unreleased film, "Something's Gotta Give!" And, it's never been shinier since I don't color it any more. People don't believe me when I say my color is natural--they think I bleach my hair to get it this color. But, as the old Clairol ad used to say, "Only her hairdresser knows for sure.!" My hairdresser, who went with me on this journey, knows it's natural. She also tells me people pay her beau coup bucks to get my hair color. Finally, after all these years, at age 68, I'm getting it right!😉
P.S., Kerry Lou, you are blessed with incredible facial bone structure! You look as lovely now as you did in those photos from 30 years ago--if not lovelier!

Hi Kerry-Lou! What a gorgeous measured piece full of sound advice and great tips based on your own journey. Like you I started with a bright white streak in the front and although it’s very much salt and pepper just now on the top and sides it’s still dark around the back (and particularly awful with my lockdown hair 😱). But you know what? I love it! No longer spending lots of money in salons getting it covered and I feel myself and love it!! So thanks for the confidence boost Kerry-Lou! Stay safe 💕💕💕

Dear Kerry Lou, I found you though Cindy Hattersley's blog last weekend. She was writing about going gray, products, etc. and mentioned you. I almost went au natural the first time we were in Covid lockdown and hair salons were closed but hung on until I could see my hairdresser. Now we are back into quarantine again in CA and after reading Cindy's blog, I made up my mind to do this! I did see my hairdresser (at her home last week) and she cut my pixie really short. Since I hadn't colored it for a couple of months, she thinks I'll pretty much be "there" at my next cut. I'm a little unsure but also excited. After finding you, I fell down the rabbit hole, watching your videos. You seem as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside.
I am doing lots of investigation into what else this will influence regarding the colors I wear, jewelry and makeup. In your experience, will clothes and jewelry still work with gray since the skin tone doesn't change? I realize makeup will need to be amped up.
Thanks for being a fabulous role model!

I let my hair go grey a number of years ago and everyone hated it and said I looked old so I went back to my double process. Then when my back acted up I said I just can;'t sit through hours of color and beach so since I was my hair short I just stopped. My hair grows very fast so it didn't take me long at all to be 100 % natural.I miss being blonde but not the upkeep. And now with not going for haircuts I have a bob already. No ugly roots as my friends are dealing with. You were always a stunning beauty, thanks for sharing the pictures. I am 53 and have not seen my natural color since I was about 15 (I started dying it super blonde at this age) it's now really dark and my stylist was going the glaze route, just to hide the few grays that peak through. Since Covid 19, being at home, and not being able to get to my stylist, the grays have really started coming through. I have decided to embrace them. I am letting them grow out cold turkey and my goal is to let it all grow out, then have my stylist put in some "fun" colored highlights around my face. I think your gray hair is gorgeous. Fun to hear your story! Lol'd when you spoke of hair being a journey, not a destination!
I embraced my silver at sixty five; thinking of my age and six grandsons, decided life is too short to spend it coloring! Transition was completed in a few short months, since I only used temporary coloring. Like you, I no longer wanted chemicals on my head, mainly due to health risks!
Initially I was disappointed with less silver than expected. Then hubby reminded me it's patterning just like my Mom's did, which made me far more content:). Love the silver around my face:).

I'm a hair colorist and you're right, I love to play with color. After not seeing my clients for so many weeks, several are considering keeping their silver. I am keeping my silver too! I discovered L'oreal root touch up and have recommended it to my clients. It is my favorite because I can scratch my head and it doesn't get under my nails, doesn't get on my pillow or run in the rain. I twist the front of my hair to help blur the line, tuck it up in a twist or ponytail, shake and keep shaking the can of root cover up and carefully spray my silver. I originally removed some of the hair color to lighten it a bit and did some very light highlights. Now I have a secret that not even my co-workers know. My silver has grown in about 4 inches and you would never know it. I will be glad to be free of the ponytail or twist, but love that I found a way to grow out my silver that I can live with. I'm going to do a big reveal when all of the color has been cut off. Thankfully, my partner is a hairdresser as well and does my cuts. I'm enjoying the transition, especially since it is on my own terms. I don't get any negative comments, and am enjoying my secret. I belong to a couple of Facebook groups that are dedicated to encouraging those of us embracing our silver. Silver and Foxy is one of them, just search silver or gray hair in the FB search bar. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I decided that hair was a gift from God, and I didn’t care what color he gave me ! It is salt and pepper, with brown hair around the ears and the back ! Your hair is gorgeous. I colored my hair since I was 15 - so many different shades of blonde. It was fun, and I enjoyed it. Then, about 8 years ago, I developed an allergic reaction to the hair color which made me stop the coloring. I left my hair grow out by adding lowlights here and there. Anyway, it’s now in its natural state. And, another change, I wear it curly as opposed to blowing out my natural curls. I miss the blonde and the smooth look occasionally, but I get so many compliments from strangers about my hair now, that makes me feel good. At 71-it is what it is!

I had decided to go gray before the lockdown but it’s been perfect timing really.
I had been dyeing my hair since I was 25 and I’m 55 in December.
In the last few years I was using organic dyeing but nevertheless...
    I was just ready.
I wore a headscarf for the transition. It didn’t even take three months.
My hair used to be Kerry-Lou’s length and very similar in texture. Frizzy that is. I was a brunette.
When I told my hair stylist to cut it super short, she told me jokingly «I’ll have you sign some légal paper first! »
It’s been a few weeks now and I just love it. It is silver. Very shiny. It looks modern and sophisticated. My face looks softer too.
It certainly was an excellent move.
I’ll keep it super short I think. At least for now.
Thank you so very much for your videos Kerry-Lou.
You’re a beautiful woman and a truly beautiful Soul. No doubt about that!

What a coincidence! For the past 2 weeks I've been staring at my salt and pepper roots contemplating letting it grow out and be natural. I have very dry, curly hair so from a condition standpoint, my hair will definitely benefit from the transition. I did an experiment with purple shampoo to try and tone down my dyed/faded areas that have become very brassy during quarantine. It also brightened up my gray roots quite a bit. Have you ever used a purple toning shampoo to brighten your hair or tone down any yellowing? I think if my hair had a more solid line of silver this would be an easier decision. I still have so much dark brown left. Thanks for the encouraging video! :)

Awwwwwwwwww Kerry-Lou, that was wonderful!!! I'll be sharing this video with all of my FB Silver/Grey groups. My go to line of encouragement is similar to something you said, "It's all about the STYLE, not the color"! Also, I see that your hair length is starting to come into it's own. Looking forward to what it will look like and the ways you'll be styling it. I've told you before that your short hair (seen @ 4:18) was a huge inspiration for me to buzz mine when I was transitioning and, while I still luv your short hair style (and how mine looked at a similar length), it's FUN to embrace the new! TIP: I am almost addicted to Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing for Gray/White/Silver Blonde Hair! The tiniest dab warmed up between palms and light stroked through hair imparts such SPARKLE...it's helped me tremendously (so have big earrings and a bold lip color). BTW, I too am in the process of growing mine out, LOL. Kerry-Lou, you are a much respected GEM, in my book!

What a beautiful lady, loved seeing your younger photos; you look like a movie star/model. At first, my hair started looking ashy, and lost its chestnut brownish red highlights, but was not gray so I colored it and it revived my hair, enhanced my blue eyes and softened my skin. It was great.
So initially dying is a good thing, but as I aged, I noticed some stray grays that did not take the color well. I still dont have gray hair and am in my mid 60's, so I still like to color it and feel it looks youthful for me, but eventually, as I gray all over, it will make sense to stop dying it dark and try some highlighting. Not everyone looks good in gray, some they look washed out and older, it depends on skin color and the actual gray color of your hair coordinating with your skin tone, if you get that right, it can look elegant.

Thanks so much Denise, I do agree that it's not right for everyone. I used to have a neighbor who dyed her hair red until the end! she lived to be 92, and she looked amazing with that red hair!

@@kerrylou3 sounds like my Irish grandmother! red, or strawberry blond to the end and she was 90. And it suited her.

I love all the photos of other women letting their silver show! My husband started going grey when he was in his early 20s, so he has been super supportive of me embracing my natural shade. Thanks for sharing your story!

I love your channel Kerry-Lou! Your happiness and warmth always come shining through no matter what the topic. I am currently letting my silvers come through and I’m planning on going cold turkey. I just grew my hair to my shoulders from a pixie and I don’t want to repeat that process any time soon!

As usual your comments are well thought out and so creative! I have been thinking of doing this for months, and last time I went to the stylist I told her to give me silver highlights instead of blonde so I can transition to growing it out. I really don’t have a ton of gray in my hair, but it’s enough to notice. No more hair dye for me!

Thank you so much-- I grew out on my second try-- (stylist told me “Its not what you think it is” In other words, It’s not that pretty-- ) I freaking love my platinum in the front and my salt and pepper all the way back... I say, “ Don’t listen to anyone if you feel the motivation to go gray!!!” LOVIN’ IT!!

Merry-Lou you are a delight, and a beautiful one at that! I love your attitude about gray hair. My hair is very fine and color does give it volume. I am very careful and selective in what I use for products on my hair. My hair is delicate so I pretty much stick to shampoo and conditioner that do not have harsh chemicals. I love the way gray hair looks on women who are style conscious! Whether they are 25 or 105 it looks sophisticated and gorgeous! If my hair was thicker I would take the plunge! Thank you for another great video! You're one of the best on CZcams! Stay safe. Much love, Sarah - Boston🌺

Thank you so much Sarah! You're right, a little chemical does thicken up the hair lol! My daughter has stick straight hair, and when she does some highlights, it looks fuller!

I colored my hair light auburn for years. It was long and curly. Last year I had to deal with breast cancer and chemo. I was coloring my hair so much I had no idea how much gray I had. When it started growing back my whole head was gray. I decided I was not going to color it anymore. Luckily it grew back soft, and thick, and curly. Surprisingly I have gotten a lot of compliments on the gray.

My last hair color was mid-December, 2019. I was a brunette but wanted to go blonde in my 20s & did until this past Dec. I knew it was really gray. Turns out it is snow white except lower back? I LOVE it! Wish I had gone natural a long time ago. Have not changed my CZcams profile pic yet!
