- We finally got to rock hound on some private ranch land out in West Texas and found some amazing rocks! If you’re interested in going on guided hunts like this please check out Teri Smith. She knows the land and can tell you where to find the good stuff!

WOW - what a haul! Looking forward to the future videos with these materials!
Thanks Stephanie! I cannot wait to get started on the new supply.
Nice haul, can’t wait to see what you do with this lot
Thanks William! It was a good time out there.
Omg that ant hill. Never seen anything like that. You and Kendra found some amazing rocks. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Beautiful Doggers!!
Thanks for watching Linda! Gotta watch those Texas sized ants! 😆
Awesome agates!!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
The roadcut they stopped at is along 118 N. It is one of the first outcrops you come to when you drive N from Alpine. The rock has been collapsing for many years. We first collected there in 2009.
It was a very cool spot, that’s for sure!
What an awesome treasure trove of pure goodness! Kendra's agates kinda made yours look bad..😂jk.
That face polish was amazing! Cannot wait for the new vids coming soon! Fantastic hunt!
Thanks Mike! I will get started on new videos very soon.
@@spwinaustin good to hear!
Outstanding finds! That 2nd to last agate I would probably just clean using a textile cleaning gun which is what I used to clean my AZ specimens. It works great. That pet wood was really unique…so much variety and so much to discover when you work on your finds. Thanks for sharing Teri’s info…I may do that sometime in the future but I am going back to AZ first in December. Great trip!
Thanks Peter! I did pick up a textile cleaner for that very purpose but I haven’t tried it yet. This may be my chance! I’m thinking about going back out there in a few days for the two other ranches. I’m hooked!
@@spwinaustin So much fun and it is great to see we have world class rock here in Texas.
Lots of cool stuff for sure, looks like your going to be busy.
Yup, I may have made a mistake bring back so much! 😆 Thanks for watching!
Well that was a productive trip. A nice selection of different beautiful minerals. Very cool Scott.😎😎
Thanks, and thank you for watching! I can’t wait to go back.
The white chalcedony is very easy to see and find. Generally small, it is best used for tumbling, as it lacks the banding and colors people are looking for.
Thank you for the feedback Stephen, I appreciate it!
The surface of that yellow carnelian @18:02 reminds me of Libyan desert glass. The small pits like glass exposed to high heat
That’s cool, thanks for the feedback, and thank you for watching!
Very stunning material out there can't wait for future videos
Thanks Keith!
Great video! Enjoyed seeing the beautiful polish job you did. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks! I hope to get back out that way in a couple of months 🤞.
@@spwinaustin We hope you do. I have a question to ask you. Is there a way I may message you?
Hi Jim. Are you on Facebook? You can message me through their Messenger app. I’m pretty easy to find on Facebook if you just search my name and look for the guy in the bicycle helmet 😆
Absolutely beautiful finds! It is looking less likely that I'll get to head out there this year so watching your finds will have to do!
Thanks James! I’m sorry you won’t be able to get out there soon but maybe next year. You will love it!
Great video Scott!, I will have to look into contacting Teri@ thank you!
Thanks Susan! You should definitely go. I’m thinking about going back in a couple of weeks and hitting the other two ranches available. 🤞
@@spwinaustin make sure you do a video. I would love to see what you find!
Had to comment twice.🤪that last agate had a beautiful polish on it .😱😎
Thanks Darrin!
Cool video. I love the Big Bend County
Thanks for watching! It is a beautiful area, that’s for sure.
That solid white agate may be an iris rainbow agate. If cut at the right thickness it may prism. I’ve been trying to find and cut one. I’m still not sure of the right thickness, but some say 1/4 inch other say 1/8 inch. Do and image search to see one.
Thanks for the advice Sylvia, I will have to look for that! I’ve seen it before on other videos and I think I got one of my rocks to show it some time ago. Thanks for watching!
to find iris agate it has to be cut very thin, like 1/8" thick.
Amazing stuff
Agreed, I was most impressed and can’t wait to get playing with it!
I need to get back down there!!
You definitely should Katrina, it’s so much fun! I had so much fun that I’m planning on going back in a few days….😁
@@spwinaustin I saw in one of the fb groups they are doing a rock hunt this weekend in Mason county. I was thinking about going.
I look forward to seeing your west texas trips! Good luck!
Looks like you had a great hunt. Weather permitting, I'm going out to Alpine in a couple of weeks. I be at the Richie Ranch on the 9th. Are there any tips you could provide? Can you provide me with any info on road cuts and other public lands? Thanks, always enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks Jim! Richie Ranch was great. I would definitely go back. There is so much area to hunt and we only hit a tiny percentage. Be sure and bring a good rock hammer. You’ll find a good variety of stones there but unfortunately no petrified wood. As far as road cuts go I’d say talk to Teri as she knows all the good spots. I’d say you can’t go wrong with stopping along any of the roads around Alpine and just slowly walking around and sifting through the rocks. You may not find big agates but you’ll definitely find lots of small stuff. I am thinking about going back in a couple of weeks to hit the two other ranches that are available. Good luck!
wow
Thanks for watching!
@@spwinaustin wellcom Will love to watch next videos too
hey I have a lot of agates and wood and petrified bone I cut but I'm looking for someone to do some cabashons for me... would you be interested? I'd give you some and pay you
Hi, thanks so much for watching! Honestly I’ve got so much on my plate right now I would not be able to help you with that, sorry. Perhaps you could reach out to your local rock shop or gem and mineral society?🤷♂️ Good luck!
What a nice haul!! Gonna have some great stuff out of these!
Thanks Robert! It was a blast, you should definitely try it if you get the chance.
