Claus apparently has an unused sprite of him without shoes that's made for this shot, but they didn't use it for some odd reason. Maybe he just really wanted to bring a spare change of shoes into the mountains.

Funny enough Itoi has worked closely with ghibli, he voices Tatsuo (the dad) in My Neighbor Totoro, and also created the advertising slogan for Kiki's Delivery Service
