  • This video starts a series about Missouri's Ozark National Scenic Riverways. This time we float from Akers Ferry to Pulltite. This was our first float, and we did this one because it was on the way to our Airbnb. I already check it out and knew it was going to be a beautiful float. I also knew the fishing in this stretch was bad for smallmouth if not all fish. I think it's too cold for most fish and not cold enough to hold a good number of trout. Although, I got a nice rainbow and a few smallmouths still so that was cool.

    Its hard to express the beauty of Missouri to my bros. This does quite a bit of justice for that.

      This was one of the prettiest stretches I've done, but the Current River has several.

      The one I lost would have been my first brown trout. They were both good ones, too. I didn't really try to catch trout when I floated it. 😆

    I have fished that area for 20 yrs. They are hard to catch for many reasons. That was a beautiful, big rainbow. And you released it unharmed.

      Thank you. I use a backpack clip as a hat clip. The actual hat clips are small, and they'll fall off. This is pretty good size and clamps hard. Good luck out there.

    • @ShowMeCreeks
      @ShowMeCreeks  Před 2 měsíci +1

      There's definitely a lot of rookies that float it. It's a pretty cool float, too. I would think you'd be fine. I'd definitely wear a life jacket just in case. The water is FREEZING 🥶. If it's cold outside, I'd suggest taking extra clothes in case you get wet.

      It was great. They're very stable, but the tracking isn't the best. A couple paddle touches to the water, and it lines out. I personally love the kayak.

    I hate catching trout just because im so dang scared of killing them. I have had a few rainbows and a brown die on me. They are so sensitive and big hooks will make them bleed out. I dont mean to but all the areas I fish have them a little here and there.

    • @ShowMeCreeks

    Larry, that was awesome. That's one of the feistiest trout I've ever seen too. Gorgeous rainbow! Terrible that brown got away. Never thought to use a craw for trout, but I may have to invest in some of those! Come to think of it, I do have some craw flies that I may need to try out. As far as the Nikko, do you have those on a jighead or what? What length/weight do you recommend? Thanks!

    • @ShowMeCreeks
      @ShowMeCreeks  Před 2 lety +1

      I was using a 1/8oz jig head I sell on my website. I was using a rooster tail but didn't get anything then tried the Craw and was hoping for smallies. I would have done better if I use the Craw the whole time probably. I actually have some Craw flies too. I always forget them. 😆

  • @joshuamcconkeyfishing9019

    It is considered a bad area because it starts being too warm for trout but yet still too cold for smallmouth

    • @ShowMeCreeks
      @ShowMeCreeks  Před 2 lety

      That's what I figured. I bet with the right bait you could do pretty good. I missed a couple of smallies. Maybe if I went with the Craw earlier. Never know now. 😆 🤣

    • @ShowMeCreeks
      @ShowMeCreeks  Před rokem +1

      I use Riverapp to check levels but to my knowledge that's floatable all year. I would have to assume it was still down compared to previous years. I don't recall dragging on this float.
