Keyboard drums are so incredibly convenient. I get that it can be challenging but once you get it down it's hilarious how quick you can record drums. Glad to hear there's someone else out there. I thought I was the only one.

It was great as I knew before watching it. I sent it to a friend and he told me that this was the BEST youtube video he has ever watched an this topic. I'm trying to make music in a way more amateur way and I now the effort behind this video. This is perfect talent combined with hardworking.
The two harmony tracks were recorded at the same time in the video to make the video more enjoyable, so you don't have to sit through me singing the same exact thing twice. And yes, everything in this video (and much more) is covered in Spare Bedroom Studio in great detail. Everything from the equipment, different types of microphones, mixing, mastering, releasing music, and everything else you care to imagine.

That being said, I'm so glad to have it completed and ready to launch. I hated that I wasn't uploading to CZcams, it was a major bummer to me. But I'm officially back, I've good 3 other videos already uploaded and scheduled and several more about to be shot. Your boy is back!
To be honest: the arrangement is killer - I love it! But the mix... is not that strong. The drums are kind of papery, separate and not really carrying the song, the bass is very inconsistent, the acoustic guitars are quite lost and the vocals are a bit dark and uneven. Here's what I would have done: - replaced the kick and snare with more unique samples (you probably can't do it but if you have the opportunity consider making some drum samples of your own) and processed a lot more the shelves with Eq, saturation and compression - both on the tracks and in parallel - to get a lot more energy and added more room sound - even a room reverb is fine; - compressed the bass a lot, given it more midrange and used a multiband compressor to make the low end very consistent - super important when you switch from playing very low notes to playing high on the neck; - compressed the acoustic guitars (because I would have double tracked them), given them more top end and some midrange; - compressed the lead vocal WAY MORE in multiple stages, then boosting a lot more 8k brightness and some midrange, then maybe some saturation before sending it to a stereo kind of slap delay; while for the harmonies and the adlibs I'd have still compressed them a lot, but boosted more higher up (10k or something like that) with some fullness around 700 hZ, before sending them to another delay - not a fun or reverb on vocals. Hope you will appreciate this constructive criticisms!
That RE20 on the acoustic sounds terrible. Like, damn your cover is good. But I can't get over how distracting the acoustic is in the mix. The synth pads could also use a bit of work but I get the idea was to do this dirty and fast.
What does the 9 minutes even include? Just recording time? And there’s no way he recorded the harmony first. I know it’s possible, but why would you want to do that in a speed recording session?
I mean, of course there's some editing to make it watchable. But all the elements are recorded within the 9 minute timeframe. Yes, I record the 2 harmonies at once, but if you were to double to speed of the timer during that it still would easily come in under 9 minutes. The amount of time I actually spent recording the song is considerably under 9 minutes- even with my explanations. You can call it fake if you want, but I believe it still hits the challenge. Also, yes- I normally wouldn't record the harmonies first. But I wanted to end with the Lead Vocal so I could present the final recording at the end, as that makes for a better video, and that's the most important thing to be successful on this platform.
