- In this video Dr Mike introduces the first lecture of a series exploring the gut micobiota. He outlines the different types of bacteria on and within our body, including their abundance and composition by location. He also discusses their role in maintaining health, and introduces their involvement in disease.
Awesome. Excellent lesson, well presented. Thank you!
My summary:
1:16 microbiota vs microbiome
(genetic output?)
5:00 bacteria quantity/density in dif areas of digestive tract
7:00 duodenum, interesting
8:00 intestinal bacteria produce metabolic products. These help us absorb vitamins and minerals. Also Short Chain Fatty Acids: reduce inflammation; help absorptoin and digestion; other regulation (metabolism, digestion, anti-inflammation, etc?) roles.
9:30 types of bacteria in the gut. ~6 main phyla types in the gut == about 160 species of bacteria.
Phyla examples: actinobacteria; proteobacteria; cyanobacteria; etc..
Species examples: H.Pylori (stomach);
Side note: about 1000 species of bacteria that live around us have been identified. But only a portion are found in our gut. @11:10
11:50 difference in species/strain of gut bacteria between people. BUT similarity in function/roles ("functional outcome") of these bacteria.
@18:00 importance of diversity (and balance) in bacteria.
Bless youuu
Hi there! Great Video! I was wondering, which video of yours do you recommend to watch next ? I'd like to continue learning more about this. All your videos are amazing! Is there one in particular you recommend to watch next? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This is the best description of bacteria breakdown in the body. I'd love to see more videos on the Neuro microbiome link. Every time I take 6g of prebiotics (glucomannan) I sleep longer (9hrs) when I typically suffer from crazy insomnia and don't have an otherwise constant tremor. Parkinsons runs in my family.

Which probiotics can be useful for
1. Tinnitus
2. Ankylosing Spondylitis
when is your next video on gut microbiotaaaaaaaaa is been 4 years :((
I wouldn't be promoting information like if the woman delivered by caesarian, the baby will develop microbiota within 3-6 months. Mom typically will be on antibiotics around Sx, it means that the breast milk's microbiota is compromised and baby won't won't develop proper microbiota either.
did he just purpusely thighten his tshirt to show his biceps? thats narcissistic. leave it alone dont tempt girls to lust after you thats not moral
