  • Extension plans are described with views of the railway and the wonderful stock restoration that has been completed. Dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated staff are viewed operating at a very historically exciting time in Lynton and Barnstaple Railway history.
Interest in the Lynton and Barnstaple Narrow Gauge Railway is now intense as the extension has become an extremely important news item around the world of narrow gauge railways and railway preservation.
The completion of the coach preservation projects simply needs to been seen to be appreciated. If this standard of craftsmanship is to be continued, success for the railway can only follow.
Well Done Peco ! ! ! The commitment by Peco Trains to produce the extraordinarily detailed coaches and trucks is to be commended as OO9 scale modelling is just going to have to be a lot bigger than it is at present. Bachmann Trains also have seen the light and have many magical projects in the pipeline for OO9 modelling.
WooWooMad, from this week, is now in 210 countries around the world plus 50 States in America. ( I still can’t believe it how it has expanded in such a short time ! ) I can tell by my stats that interest for narrow gauge railways encircles the globe and I am sure that the fortunes of the Lynton and Barnstaple Narrow Gauge Railway are being followed with the greatest of interest in many countries around the world at this time of the progression of the extension.

Dear steamsearcher, (Love the name), Thanks for the kind comment. If you haven't visited yet you must as it is such a great ride with so much potential for the future extensions that will come. I will be glad when all this lock down lark is over and we can all get back to our WooWoos. Very best wishes, WooWooMad.

Something people don't tend to think about is that these old engines are 100% manually operated, there are no automatic control devices, the driver and fireman had to be aware of everything that was happening, all the time, total concentration! They were, in fact, rolling bombs! The invention of the safety release valve made them safer, only so long as maintenance was superb. A rail road run on the cheap was a disaster in motion. These were amazing people, who made the whole system go but we, the public only seem to see the "Romance" of the steam and the smoke and the fantasy of a "simpler" time.

Dear fred wood, My pal is a boiler inspector and I have seen what these guys have to check through these days to get the ten year ticket on a loco. Absolutely believe me when I say these boilers nowadays are so much more checked out then they ever were, even under British Rail, let alone one hundred years ago. Even to just see those wonderful welding runs that a skilled bloke can perform is just a joy to behold. Don't worry, I am sure we are all in safe hands, especially as it takes quite a lot to qualify to do this challenging job. I haven't even mentioned the paperwork ! ! "! * !. Thanks for the very interesting comment on this subject. Very best wishes to you and your channel. WooWooMad.

  • @adrianrosenlund-hudson8789

Absolutely wonderful. I'll be coming to see this outstanding railway before long. I can't think of a better place to take my train mad son for his first ride on a steam train....

+Adrian Rosenlund Dear Adrian Rosenlund, It is lovely to hear about your train mad son. This railway in particular has it all, enthusiastic folk running it, great scenery and plenty of steam action. It has also the interesting attraction that it is intending to extend the line to long lost routes. Also, don't forget we are lucky, this island is absolutely full of the most wonderful railways and other steam transport. Junior groups are usually active with most societies to train up and promote interest and skills for the next generation, so maybe that may be an option at a later stage. Very Best Wishes to you and your son and thank you for contributing to WooWooMad.

Axe primes badly at the 32 second mark - luckily the driver is already easing off as the cylinder cocks aren't opened. This will be a wonderful railway that most people would never have thought would return.

CGT867 Dear CGT867, I'm sorry that it appears that I haven't replied to your comment, I seemed to have just missed this one. Yes you are absolutely right, a few years down the line this is going to be certainly a seriously major, major tourist attraction in this part of the world. As of this month WooWooMad is now being viewed in 114 different countries and the interest and the number of views around the world of this (humble) video of mine is surprising, even me. Thank you for your comment. Very Best Wishes, WooWooMad

For those readers with an historical point of view, fund-raising for the L&B bears a very close resemblance to fund raising the construction of World War Two Spitfires. Each component was priced up and itemised so, according to the depth of your particular pocket ( or purse) you chipped in with whatever you could. An old idea, maybe, but still a good 'un!Alistair

Really enjoy the multiple camera angles showing the details of the coupling and the switches. Also, seeing the train leaving and then riding on it and the views. I would think it is professional production. It reminds me of the LGB Stainz 2 being small and green and the coaches like the German state railway coaches I have. Watching this is almost like being there. Very enjoyable and something I might never see in real life because I live in America.

grumpusone Dear Grumpusone, Thank you for the kind comments. I have so much video that I have taken over the years that I am having trouble finding the time to get it all to CZcams. I have at least three projects that need putting together and I just hope that I can find enough computer time to complete all this. I have just completed the HMS Warrior video with the magnificent horizontal engine so now I can return to some more rail videos and the great folk that inhabit this world of steam. Very Best Wishes WooWooMad.

+johnson121able Dear johnson121able, Thank you for your kind comments about my video. This railway is now in a very interesting moment in its history as the extension plans can show. My humble video alone can testify to interest in 93 countries around the world which I think is absolutely amazing. I think something very special is happening at this railway and the history, restoration and enthusiasm of this railway is now being followed and supported all around the world.
      Very best wishes, WooWooMad.

The spoon I eat with is almost the size of that tiny shovel the fireman uses..LOL.
But very nice to see the rebirth of this railway, this was the most spectacular and scenic narrow gauge line outside of Wales.
Had a look on the website and the future plans are very ambitious, but feasable.
So some of the money I spend on donations will go to this railway from now on.

Dear dieselmupke, This railway really is something special ! ! ! The ambition to re-establish this route between Lynton and Barnstaple is truly admirable. The resulting positive increase in tourism and the additional income and employment that will follow can only be of benefit to the whole of the county. I sincerely hope that this project continues to receive all the support that it deserves. Very best wishes to you and thank you for your contribution to WooWooMad.

It's a shame the track cannot start at its original place, Barnstaple. The station is still there but used as a cafe the last time I was down there in Devon, it was a dual station, one side for Lynton the other for Ilfracombe or London via lots of other stops. If I win the lottery you are my first call with a cheque to get you to Lynton

Dear Arnold Robert Lee, This railway really is such a spectacular project that is being worked on in the county of Devon, UK. All the folk at the L&B will, I know, be hoping that your lottery ticket comes up as all contributions are being put to excellent use and every penny counts and is very gratefully received. Do have a look at the L&B website as there is an excellent map that shows all the progress and if you click on the bottom left button of the maps you can see the satellite pictures and zoom right in to see all the route. There is also much other information especially regarding the new coach that is being built. Thank you very much for taking the trouble to publish your comment. Very Best Wishes WooWooMad.

Dear FannyAckin, I am sure that there are many folk around the world ( not just in England ) that are following the progress of this wonderful preservation project. The web site that L & B run has the most detailed information with photographs of every step of the journey that they must complete to see this project to its conclusion. The support that they enjoy locally is extensive as it can be easily appreciated how the railway will support tourism and the local community. It will take a while yet and it's going to take a good deal of money but as you can see from the web site the next phase is already happening. Very best wishes to you and your channel and thank you for commenting on WooWooMad.

i camped in north devon for many years and i always drove past woody bay station , what you have done there is superb , i was there when BBC was filming.
so get relaying back to lynton and barnstable town , so we can get this wonderfull railway back again . nothing is going to stop what what you are doing to bring it back . its just a matter of time . before we can ride on this railway again .from barnstable to lynton . trouble with you guys is that you dont understand the words its impossible to do ,the impossible just takes a little longer to do .

Sadly steam locomotive Lew went into oblivion, to a Brazilian coffee plantation, and his faithful chuffing brothers were scrapped, would be wonderful if one day he could be found and repatriated.

Dear David Overton, Oh, you never know, it may be out there somewhere as a home for a load of chickens and other various livestock. The interesting thing is that the L&B are dedicated to reproducing the historic physical history of the railway and the work carried out so far, and continues with other major projects, is absolutely magnificent and is a credit to preservation and museum conservation work. Do go on to the very interesting L&B web site and visit the LEW, LYD and History pages where there are details of the interesting research that has taken place both in this country and abroad regarding this subject. Very best wishes to you and thank you for your contribution to WooWooMad.
