The Unleash!!!!! video is the bands response to the Covid epidemic. Each of the early scenes are animations from other videos by the band, but only one member is present due to Covid isolation. They come together in the end to "defeat" Covid (with a nod to Sailor Moon and Voltron animes) and save the world from isolation, because thankfully we're past the isolation phase.

The woman with the red rose, Miku Kobato, is the band founder and worked in maid cafes and thought the contrast between their look and their music, the "gap", would be a cool band concept. Check out their MV "After Life" whose opening shot is from one of the cafes she worked in, @Home Cafe. Their record label, Pony Canyon, also has an anime division who did the animation for Unleach!!!!! One ! per member. The anime is about coming out of COVID and being able to perform live again. Lot of in-jokes in this video. Remarkably talented band!

This song is about their struggles during the pandemic. The dark cloud represented all the negativity and hardships that everyone experienced during those few years. At the end they saved the world with their music. There's a lot more to this video, but I'd be typing forever. 😀

You can't go wrong with so many of these all-girl Japanese bands. Whether Metal of Rock or some fusion of multiple genres. And aside from all the talent and creativity, they're all so polite and friendly and give the fans the same love they receive.

Ladies, welcome to the world of Band Maid. We Maidiacs (that's what we legends of Band Maid fans call ourselves) love these five young amazingly talented Japanese women. I'm old (75 years old) and have seen A LOT of bands (rock and otherwise) in my life. These young women have allowed me to fall in love with rock and roll again. The first song that Band Maid had that went viral ( and saved the band) was "Thrill", the official music video. The next video I viewed was "Domination", the official live video. The video really showed how talented the group is and how well they interact with their audience. That's a must see. The band celebrated their 10th Anniversary tour finale in Yokohama Arena in November. Band Maid has grown quite a bit completely intact for these ten years. That is almost unheard of in the music business. They have recently released some official live videos from that 10th Anniversary concert. Those releases are "Don't You Tell ME", "Hate? (which has some slightly risqué and salty lyrics), and "Endless Story"(their closing song with dramatic, beautiful, and tear inducing music and lyrics). All their songs are worth listening too and will give a true understanding of how creative, talented, humble, cohesive these young women are and how much they truly love their fans. I hope all three of you will become Maidiacs like the rest of us.

Band-Maid is easily at the top of my current favorite band list. They bring me back to my youth of 70's and 80's hard rock and metal...they are super talented. You can't go wrong with anything from them, but I find the official live to be the best.

You must absolutely see any of the Official Live videos. Band-Maid studio recordings are great, but I can't even describe in mere words, just how amazing these girls are live. It's not often you can say a band is honestly better live than on the album.

Five exclamation points because there are five of them! There are a number of "Easter Eggs" in this video that you didn't catch since you haven't heard of them. For example, the animation starts with the singer standing among vertical lights; that's the music video for *"Blooming"* which you should watch next. It's awesome! The next scene has the drummer at a table with desserts, that's from the video for *"Don't you tell ME"* which is also awesome. The third scene is the lead guitarist and composer Kanami Tōno on the set of the music video for *"Alone"* which was her first song to get recorded. You should watch it because it is what? Awesome. The next scene is from *"Dice"* which features their bassist MISA, their barefoot assassin on bass. She's really awesome. The fifth scene features Miku Kobato, the band founder and principle lyricist, playing a Rickenbacker in their first music video *"Thrill"* which became an unexpected viral hit when it was shared on an English-speaking Facebook Japanese culture page. The characters for Kobato (小鳩) mean "small pigeon" so she flies away because she is (I should think of another word but nothing fits as well) awesome. There are dozens more videos, and you'll get dozens more suggestions. They are all awesome. In fact, there's a recent live video of them performing "Unleash!!!!!" last November in Yokohama. They've released other live videos from that "serving" (because they are maids, they "serve" us music). "Don't you tell ME" has an extended solo section which is pretty awesome, and *"Hate?"* (which is the closing track on their EP "Unleash" from November 2022) is effing awesome!

Live, live, live, live, live, live, and if you can, live. About time you got to the best band in Japan. Best heard LIVE. This band is spectacular on stage, and you get about half of them if it's just an official studio video. Anyway, unleash is nice. Better would be Domination live, Manners with Black Hole live, Hate live, and Daydreaming. Bunches of songs, though, and they are consistently magnificent. #1 on my list of best Japanese bands: Band Maid, One Ok Rock, Wagakki and Doll$Boxx.

Band Maid has been touring the US and Europe since 2016. Last year they had a 14 city tour, all sold-out. Plus they were only the 2nd Japanese Band to be invited to Lallapalooza. They were awesome.
Miku (Red Flower) created the band, convincing 4 strangers to wear maid costumes and play Rock music. The maid costumes are to create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing, demure maids VS what you are hearing Hard Rock.
    NEXT - "Hate?"

    🐦 *Kathy, Lulu & Donna* 🐦
Welcome to the world of *BAND-MAID* (2013 - Present) A group of 5 young ladies from Japan that will rock your world:
*Miku Kobato* (Kuruppo) = Lead Vocals / Rhythm Guitar *(Po!)*
*Saiki Atsumi* (Sai-Chan) = Lead Vocals
*Kanami Tono* (Kanamincho) = Lead Guitarist
    *Akane Hirose* (A-Chan) = Drummer
*MISA* (MISA, MISA, MISA) = Bassist
If you wish to continue down this Pigeon Hole 😊 you will enjoy over 100+ great songs you will start saying to yourself “This is my favorite *BAND-MAID* song”. _(No joke Po!)_
Below is a list of songs that will get you started
    *Choose Me(MV) - 2018*

*Real Existence Live - Zepp Tokyo 2018*
    *Blooming(MV) - 2019*
*ONSET - Zepp Tokyo 2018* (instrumental)
I discovered *BAND-MAID* in 2019 and came to a realization that *BAND-MAID* more then just a rock band they are a band that does not have any boundaries and is willing experiment into different genre from (Blues, Rock, Punk and Jazz) and a lot of fans including me would say “you got to check out their live videos” from:
    *2017-STUDIO COAST*
    *2018-Zepp Tokyo*
    *2020-LINE CUBE SHIBUYA*
    *2021-BAND-MAID ONLINE ACOUSTIC*
In the end I realize that *BAND-MAID* more then just a band but a band that cares about each other and their fan base and in October of 2022 I had a fortune of experiencing them live and with that *BAND-MAID* cemented their Legacy into my heart. Rock On! 🤘

  • @PaleHorseShabuShabu
    @PaleHorseShabuShabu Před 4 měsíci +3

Here's my interpretation of this video.
The video opens with the vocalist, Saiki Atsumi, standing on the set of their video for "Blooming." Next is Akane Hirose, the drummer, on the set of "Domination." The scared-looking girl is guitarist Kanami "Mincho" Tono, and she's on the set for "Alone." Next is bass guitarist MISA on the set of "Dice." In all of these shots, there's a black mist closing in on the maids. My interpretation is that this represents covid; I don't think it's a coincidence that each of them is isolated.
Lastly, rhythm guitarist, vocalist, and founder of BAND-MAID, Miku Kobato, is dancing on the set of their first video and breakout hit, "Thrill." Miku then turns into a pigeon because the kanji in her name can be translated to "small pigeon." She flies off and reunites the maids. Then they're standing on a plateau, smiling and looking at the horizon. I believe this represents the maids reflecting on the hard road they've traveled to get to where they are now and/or they're gazing confidently and proudly on their future. Right before the pandemic hit, BAND-MAID was invited to play at Budokan, the most prestigious venue in Japan, but the pandemic hit and canceled that and any tour plans they had. That's why the maids are in darkness and look depressed and disappointed.
Slowly, led by Saiki, the maids start to shake off those negative feelings and resume playing together again. Next we see people sitting in the shadows and watching the band on various devices. Those devices have sparkles coming off of them, something I believe represents BAND-MAID wanting to act as a light in the darkness of the pandemic. They did play two online concerts for the fans.
Lastly, the maids go back into their anime forms and transform. I know Saiki in particular is a Sailor Moon fan, so this could be a nod to that or it could be following the tropes of the magical girl genre of anime. The spaceship blasting the planet is simply the maids inoculating Earth and eradicating covid and all of the fear, uncertainty, and the rest of the garbage surrounding it. Then the band is back on that plateau, once again confidently looking toward the future.

  • @zer0tzer0
    @zer0tzer0 Před 4 měsíci +2

Yes! They saved the Earth from COVID. But this is their only anime Music Video, however they do anime theme songs. 'Glory' was for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS, and 'Shambles' was commissioned as the season two closing theme song for the Netflix anime, Kangan Ashura. And yes, they always dress as maids, though the outfits have become more Super Hero and less Maid over time, except when they dress as Geishas for their April Fool's Day videos as BAND-MAIKO. You should check those out as well.

Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume? MIKU “Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!”
Interviewer: What’s the meaning of the name “BAND MAID”? Miku: I used to work at a maid cafe, and I thought “I want a band!” So it became BAND-MAID - maids in a band!
Interviewer: How did BAND-MAID come together? Did any of you know each other before joining the band? Kanami: Miku was looking for members to be in BAND-MAID. I was approached to join the band, and then I brought my friend, the drummer Akane, with me. Then, Akane brought her friend, the bassist Misa. So the instrumental performers were all gathered through connections between musicians. After that, our vocalist Saiki joined through an audition.

Welcome, Kathy, Lulu, and Donna. You are embarking on (along with many others - nearly 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: czcams.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/video.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): czcams.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/video.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. czcams.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” czcams.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/video.html
     Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” czcams.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/video.html
     ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” czcams.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/video.html
 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.
 “P and D⁴” Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinDakaPanic810
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:
 Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: czcams.com/video/DgxU-MVjta0/video.html
     See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: czcams.com/video/vjZkNeoGmhc/video.html
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Try them live, especially their last 4 on their YT channel, which are live releases - including UNLEASH!!!!!. Then you'll get to experience the unbelievably good musicianship and stage presence of THE best Hard Rock band in the universe! 🤘🤘 The “Unleash!!!!!” anime seems to show the black cloud of that 2020 plague enveloping the world and depressing the F out of everyone, including B-M members, who'd fought against their cancelled tours, including a Budokan concert, by performing live and streaming the concerts worldwide (bless them for that). The Little Pigeon seems to energise the band to keep playing this way for now...but then a second wave of darkness appears and even Miku can't get everyone together again. Then it seems that Saiki becomes the strong centre for the band and, while all except Saiki look lost as the live shots start, the other members seem to be inspired by how Saiki keeps fighting through and this energises the other band members to start playing again, with people around the world watching on various screens. Then, for the final piece of anime, the ladies use their hypodermic-shaped spaceship to blast away the plague cloud and save the world. Or it all means something else entirely!

    First Band Maid?
    DAN DAN DIDI DAN DAN!
    Welcome to the pigeonhole, po!
Best rock band on the planet!
They just finished their 10th year anniversary tour, so you have a decade of music to catch up on!
Thankfully, they just released 4 songs from the final show of that tour, including this song!
The other 3 are Don't You Tell Me, Hate? and Endless Story.
The first 2 have bass v guitar battles, and the last one was the final song of the final show of the tour, so it gets a little emotional!
    I suggest ALL of them!😂🙏🤘🫶

Do more Band-Maid and the Maidiacs will come. Many great Japanese bands besides Lovebites and Band-Maid, many are all female or female fronted. Bands like - Aldious, Mary's Blood, Bridear, Nemophila, Trident, Hagane, Unlucky Morpheus among other. Recommend Band-Maid Thrill next

The only performance they are not in the Maid "battle Armor", (as the band calls them), is the Christmas acoustic performance, of which several songs are available, all of which are so amazing! Then there is Band-Maid's alter-ego band, Band-Maiko, and they are cool too! If you give them a look, I recommend "Gion Cho" from them or "Secret Maiko Lips". I think Lulu would enjoy Band-Maiko a lot! You will be bombarded with the word "Po", as Miku claims to be a 810 year old Pigeon and Po or Kuruppo are what the Japanese people here from pigeons, it's a part of her charm.

And this "AniMaid" video was made with the animation company that is owned by their label, there are also many, many "Easter Eggs" hidden in the animated portions of the video as well. I'll let others fill you in on those.
On the ending, there are 2 schools of thought. One is the Transformed Maids saved the planet from the C Virus, the second is they defeated the depression hanging over the planet.

Another Japanese band to recommend you: Glim Spanky. They have a more classic rock sound, very influenced by the late 60s/early 70s and singer Remi's voice has often been compared to Janis Joplin. This is the lead single from their latest album: czcams.com/video/clTs9bFore4/video.html and this might be my favourite track of theirs (the title translates as something like "Like a wind blowing through") czcams.com/video/lu44tUj8vWY/video.html

Musically this band is amazing,it's just for me the vocals grate!!!! It's a pretty monotone voice at best......listen to other songs......pretty much the same again.......its a shame as the music is top notch. No doubt the band maid fans will Slaughter me for saying this.....🪖🪖....I've got my hard hat on.

No worries. It is obvious you aren't trolling. I feel the same about the Lovebites singer. She is very talented but I don't like the tone of her voice. I don't find Saiki to be monotone at all but we all react differently. Their newest live video of Endless Story, she shows a lot of emotion. Might be worth checking out. They did release a scorebook of their UW album and with it had an instrumental version of all their UW songs. Pretty incredible stuff.

Everyone has their own taste in music. What bothers us is the fool who thinks that only his tastes are superior and those he doesn't like are inferior. I know you are not one of those people.
I am a person who worked in the music industry in Japan, and sometimes people's ears reject music before it reaches their hearts. That is no one's fault. It's just a matter of not listening to music that your ears reject.
Another thing that makes people uncomfortable is when their brains can't process the music. From reading your comment, there is a possibility that this may be the case. In this case, again, it's just a matter of not listening to such music.
I hope you will be able to listen to BAND-MAID's music with your heart and not your ears, and hear it as music and not sound, but I am not going to interfere in your life, so don't mind me and do what you want.😊

@pohojisan1287 I used to listen to a great Japanese band back in the late 80s/early 90s....Loudness, they are similar.....fantastic,incredible musicians......its just the vocals let them down ....in my humble opinion......but their track " butterfly" is amazing.
