    How big is your saw? How long does it normally take to make one complete cut? By the way nice video.

  • @Bradwick1
    @Bradwick1 Před 11 lety

    Is that chain kind of dull or is pine just that tough to cut lengthwise?

  • @montanawestphotography6671

    You are sliding the beam maker on top of your sawdust. I saw it go uneven on your cuts in the first clip. Depending on the application for the beam it may not matter but if you want perfect cuts you have to clear the chips from on top of the 2x before repositioning for another cut. Been there done that.

    It works so well backwards...you must have made it ambidextrous!

    Good invention for short logs. But you still need a mile long guide board. Too bad all you can cut is beams. Well then you could use the Alaska saw mill.

    Question? Did you use a rip chain?

    • @DavidN23Skidoo
      @DavidN23Skidoo  Před 10 lety +3

      Yes, and you can convert a crosscut chain if you like to file. File two teeth normally, then file two with a 10° top angle rather than the normal 25-35° angle.

    You're using it BACKWARDS. The 'shoe' should face the other way and the saw bar should be on the OPPOSITE side of the log, away from the operator. You then 'rock' the saw in a small arc, moving it backwards after each 'rock'. The teeth in the shoe will dig in to the 2x4 and stop the saw from pulling out of the cut. Use a ripping skip-chain for a faster cut. Look at Granberg ripping chain construction, then buy a cheaper full-tooth Carlton rip chain and modify it like the skip-tooth Granberg.

      I would also say make one rip, then touch up the chain and repeat. It's slow, but it's worth the time. That'll keep your motor from working too hard and give it time to cool down between cuts so you don't burn it up. I learned that the hard way... Ran a perfectly good saw wide open for too long without letting it cool down and cost myself a pretty penny.

    that looks very dangerous to me! if that saw kicks back it could be bad.

    Your saw should be over the plate not hanging off the side of it.

    you are using it the wrong way. I know, I invented the tool . the chainsaw body should be over top of the beam machine.

  • @trouts4444
    @trouts4444 Před 6 lety

    This video should be deleted or better deleted and done over using the beam machine properly. Many videos on You Tube setup the saw on the beam incorrectly as is done here. It's dangerous.
