I think this is the best Kottke track recorded ever...love this so much!!! It makes me wanne cry and laugh at the same time. The power of music...Thank you Leo!!
Used to have it on LP Played it to death Saw him on Austin City Limits one night- who IS this guy?? Bored with guitar, changed my freakin life. Still gives me chills Thx Leo, thx thx thx. A true American originalist Amen.
I am also quite fond of this particular track.its impressionist but within reach.haunting to me..yes like many I grew up in the Midwest and can relate to the overall vibe of this.love it.
I bought it after this one but I think I prefer Mudlark. The songs are tighter (compare Machine #2 with Watermelon Machine Gun for example) and I like hearing bass and drums under his playing.
Agreed Tizmaole, if I could play like that I wouldn't care what my voice sounded like. But Leo's is great. It's like Hendrix when he thought people wouldn't appreciate his voice. But with guys at his and Leo's level of talent people are too busy picking their jaws off the floor LOL.
UKMikey I love Steve Howe, but no one else can do this quite-like Leo. Hey, I recently heard that his wife since forever, Mary, has died. Is then true.
I used to make out to a blonde man to this album for hours! He held the line for us. Leo makes me howl -- passion behind this tune, can you feel it???!
He's famous for that quote. Personally, I think he should cut himself some slack: it's hard enough playing guitar that well, much less singing at the same time.
i saw him circa 74 & still can't stand up right

I heard this on the radio today. The Sound played this. It is amazing. No wait.....IT IS AMAZING. Okay, that is better.
So beautiful ..... I wish it would go on forever.
It sort-of does.
Pass it down to whoever will listen
This tune is just sublime .
100% sublime.
I Thank God I m Blessed with my hearing and to have Leo’s music give affirmation
Absolute purity and genius.
a freak of nature on the guitar for sure
Kills me. I don't know where to begin even tryin to play that and sing it
Leo Kottke's album "Six and Twelve String Guitar" is great, too.
I bought it after this one but I think I prefer Mudlark. The songs are tighter (compare Machine #2 with Watermelon Machine Gun for example) and I like hearing bass and drums under his playing.
My absolute favourite!!!
This AMAZING!!!
MY favorite tune by Leo. Have seen him live 5 times, but he's never played it. :(

Yes! So true
great, great
Wow, how much stronger he was then...I still like the recent live cut...more soft and introspective.
Love this song, but I have always thought the live version on My Feet Are Smiling is actually better. Sadly I can't find it on YT.
I have the CD but it doesnt seem to exist on the internet
It’s a bit slower, I think on My Feet.
This was my absolute favourite song when I was a kid.
I love it even more now.
That random lp i got for 99cents absolutely filled my soul

Howl, Leo: HOWL!!!!!!
Dr Demento said "How the F does he do that?
@8armwrap great comment. I can hear the wind howl.
too damn good, would love to hear Steve Howe try this.
+tulllguy Steve Who? LOL just kidding Yes and Tomorrow fans but Leo's fingerplay is in another league.
+UKMikey Without Sirius, I never would've heard of him. Today's "artists" are mostly garbage.
UKMikey I love Steve Howe, but no one else can do this quite-like Leo.
