I worked in Ebbw in the seventies and it was still a decent enough little town then with the steelworks still open ( though it didn’t half pong of rotten eggs). But I have to say that notwithstanding Rhod’s jibing, the people there were the loveliest, warmest types of Valleys Welsh. Even met Henry Cooper there once when he was opening a store. Diamond geezer.
Beautiful road over the hill from Ebbw Vale to Llangynidr, looking towards Llangorse lake, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains- my dogs would always get excited when we turned onto it.
My fathers family was from Letchworth Rd & Alexandra St , Ebbw Vale, totally changed from the 1950's, last time I was there in 2001, no one from the family alive anymore..
This is so funny and true. I lived in Tredegar until I was eighteen and it has always been on the rough side but I still have some fantastic childhood memories. I performed at the ballroom and loved it I was only eleven but it was great, People shouldn't get offended at this cause one of the great things about being a welsh man/woman is that we have the ability to laugh at ourselves.
