I usually us Embershed and cometti and I have a 35 win streak on the duels stadium

I always start with area spells like Astral Storm so that my opponent and his/her pets can at least take some damage.

Also, when your opponent wears the same boots as yours, I think you'd have a 50% chance of going first.
