      Darinka Cano She set 11 world records, had the longest lasting world record for the old system, never placed off podium in ALL her major international competitions, and was the first woman to complete a Career Super Golden Grand slam (second Zagitova) in ladies singles. Besides those history markers, she set the technical bar for the quality (GOE) in ladies skating (especially her jumps).
      Her rivalry with Mao not only pushed her, it also pushed Mao and Mao’s technicality with Mao being the lady to land the most 3As in competition (idk if that still stands). Both of the ladies became idols and inspiration for the current generation of young boundary breaking skaters. Yuna is also the pioneer of South Korea’s school of figure skating. Figure skating wasn’t a thing in South Korea before her and now there’s a big wave of young and talented South Korean skaters.
      So whether it’s her record breaking to boundary pushing, inspiring a lot of the current generation of figure skaters, or even introducing an entire country to the sport, all of these things have left a mark on women’s figure skating.

      M... New elements brought by her or what? She's a great skater, but i think people overthink about her personality. In the past we had more great skaters. But she's great, it's un-doubtful

  • @professormong7074
    @professormong7074 Před 3 lety +593

    For people how and why Yuna had changed the history of the ladies' figure skating, here are some explanations.
    1. she raised the bar of technical aspects of jumps, especially 3-3 combinations. Because of her, a lot of nowadays skaters should be able to do at least 3-3 combo (at least 3 flip-3 toe combo) in order to be able (successfully) to compete at the international level.
    2. yes, before Yuna there were a handful of skaters who did 3-3 combo in a program, but the quality of those combos and consistency are incomparable to Yuna's 3-3 combo ( correct edge, speed, distance, rotations, minimum pre-rotation, air positions, etc)
    3. hence, overall scores have been raised due to more difficult combo jumps now being introduced and attempted by many skaters (and as a result, things are more competitive now)
    4. she is not just a great skater with super grand slams and medals with world records, she really made a solid mark in the history of ladies' figure skating than any other female skaters in history.
    5. in 2021, there are still rarely any top female skaters who have textbook quality jumping techniques as Yuna had. Even with some 3 axels and quad jumps nowadays, if you study figure skating jumps in detail, you will realise how fundamental techniques are ruined for a sake of higher scores and base values. And ISU will not do anything but try to make a star skater for financial profits.
    6. musicality - no need to argue or explain at all. As legend choreographer David Wilson said, it is impossible for her not to be on music when skating. He also mentioned it is something you have to be born with.

    I was born and raised in Vancouver. I remember watching this live. I can't help but admire the gracefulness and finesse that Yuna Kim has, as she is easily on of the greatest figure skaters to ever take the ice. It is crazy to believe that it has already been 10 years since these games. I was 9 years old at the time and I remember a lot of it like it was yesterday. Just watching this brought tears to my eyes, as it was an honour to have some of the greatest athletes in the world come to my city 10 years ago. Looking forward to watch the city bid for the games and hopefully host the olympics here in Vancouver again in 2030!

    • @edukid1984
      @edukid1984 Před 3 lety +4

      Oh dear, don't hold your breath on hosting again. The Olympics has become an increasingly expensive and politically non-viable proposition for most cities in the world. Many purpose built venues fall into disuse and disrepair for budgetary purposes and become eye sores or white elephants after a Game; is that the case with Vancouver? If not then perhaps there's still a fair chance for the Olympics to return there since cost of hosting may only be a fraction of the usual.

    Alexander Zhulin said "Looking at the performance, Kim Yu-na, I want to quit coaching, Such a talent is born once in a thousand years." Why did he say that?
    Even ordinary people who are not experts in figure skating often say that Yu-na Kim's skating is so natural and different from other skaters. All of Kim's movements are so natural that even professional experts praised her performance for making four minutes feel like seconds.
    The athletes that the public sees on the air are all world-class athletes, as they are capable of competing in international-level competitions. And in most cases, the difference in skill between players at international level is not great. Rather, they are small enough to lead or trail each other. This is also why the competition in international level is fierce and rivals exist. For example, in Track and field 100m event, the speed between players differs within 0.01 second, so it is indistinguishable with the human eye. Therefore it is necessary to borrow the power of science and technology such as a high-speed camera to cover the ranking. Likewise, it is not easy for non-professional spectators to differentiate between the skills of world-class figure skaters.
    So why does Yuna Kim's skating look different and natural than other skaters? Why does Yuna Kim's performance look so natural that even people who don't know much about figure skating can tell her performance from other player's? The fact that Yuna Kim's performance looks different from that of other world-class players even in the eyes of the general public is proof that there is an overwhelming difference between Yuna Kim and other players.
    Because of her unparalleled genius, all the movements and techniques from head to toe when skating perfectly flow through the music, from note to note. It is also because it goes beyond this and penetrates the fundamental premise of beauty and art, balance and harmony. Among previous legends who were recognized for their artistry, there was no example of having music at her or his disposal, from the stormy fervor of a Danse macabre to the grace of a Gershwin floating like a feather on the ice. So facial expression acting is only a help, and skating itself is an art. By doing so, she elevated figure skating beyond an artistic sport to an art itself.
    In addition, Yuna Kim's jump is a flying jump that cannot be seen by even male athletes as well as women. And Yuna Kim's step technique, which has been neglected by the judges, is extremely difficult in itself, but considering Yuna Kim's unrivaled speed, it is a ridiculous skill That's it.

    QUEEN YUNA 😭😭😭 Everyone knows she was robbed of gold at Sochi, and this in turn robbed us fans of a once-in-a-lifetime scene of the King and Queen of figure skating, Yuzuru and Yuna, dancing together during the gala.
    Evidently, she still reigns in our hearts although she has long retired, as the greatest female figure skater of all time.
    Her poise, charisma, elegance, artistry, textbook jumping technique, enigma, flexibility of choregraphy and music were all a blessing to figure skating but taken for granted by ISU. If we go into detail about her personality, this will just give us more reason to love her. This gala, like all her other performances, clean or not, were all stunning, mesmerizing, ethereal.

    연아의곡선택과 안무밸런스는 늘 완벽했지만, 이 바이올린의 서정적이고 구슬픈음악적선율을 연아의 스타일로 정말완벽하게 보여준것같아요, 음악의감정에이끌리듯 그감성과 깊이의 완급조절을 너무나도아름답게끌어냈지요..컴피에서썻음어땠을까할정도로 너무아름다운작품..의상도 보면볼수록 너무아름답구요..넘나그립습니다🤍

    You know everyone says she was robbed at an event but she is getting her rewards now if you have real talent no one can rob you of that no imperfect judge can take your perfect talents away from you. Remember that no one.
