Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

Enya's music can't be described. It is both beautiful and enchanting. What a gift to the world....peace.
I just discovered this song and i’m completely moved by it, there’s something magical and hauntingly beautiful around it.
May I suggest listening to a slowed version of it, chances are you will like it even more.
Enya must have a truly wonderful mind , full of soothing music . I know that she lives quite a secluded life which is doubt is a main point regarding composing her music . 🤍

This song was playing in the labor room the moment my youngest daugher came into the world in 1997. I was so moved by the experience, I suggested to my wife that we name our newborn "Enya" . During her infancy, I would play this song for her each time she cried. It helped. To this day, she calls this "her song". Thanks to the Enya for which my child is named after.

I was just thinking the same... Remember when you heard novelty (such as this) and it seemed like there was seriously some bit of magic in it? It made you stop and furrow your brow in a sort of awe. Remember when, even if you didn't quite like something, you often still understood its value as a highly-unique and original piece of work?
Remember originality itself...? That mix of weird and cool that you didn't know could exist until you were introduced to it? Its esoteric depth of soul tuned you right in that something special was happening.
This is what was lost for some reason. Why?
People do have mechanical, 'AMGT'-style talent today... where they freak their voice up and down and everyone claps while they sing another person's song. Or if someone does have an original, it is just okay. But few were coming out w powerful original souls past 2000s, imo.
In fact, every decade before 2000, from 50s-90s, had towering works of greatness.
It's funny because you talk like you're from the 50s. The 90 o also had a LOT of shit music. You just don't remember it.

While it's true the greatest eras of powerful music were the 50s, 60s, and 70a, the difference is, at least SOME great music still existed in the 90s... Today, there is EXTREMELY little, if any, truly original good music coming out. There is mechanical talent, yes (but even in voices and sound, today's popular music is very less-distinctive than in past eras). There's no powerful originality, a distasteful emotional prosaicism, and a distinct lack of lyrical depth.

Dicen que la música es el alimento del alma, y esta canción es una buena muestra, por lo menos para mí. Hace ya 20 años, cuando estaba perdido y mi futuro no apuntaba más allá que en convertirme en un vulgar delincuente de tres al cuarto, esta canción apareció por casualidad en mi camino y Enya se pasó a ser un pilar básico en mi conversión hacía una persona más madura e inteligente.

I will say this, Enya will make anyone feel at ease after listening to any of her songs. After dealing with family issues, I would listen to her songs and feel very calm.
Alot of people in northern ireland played this song in 1998 during the peace agreement, it was also used for the GFA episode in derry girls, now when people play it in northern ireland, the new generation just gets a wave of emotion for what our parents and grandparents went through, we also feel the anger, as they say, those who never lived in war, want war, its stupid really, but we have been fighting eachother on this island for 800 years and it isnt about the stop 😂😢
