    at the least the blimp guy went easy with it. the dunbat dude will swim hysterically non-stop until he finally dies out of power

      it is suggested, that he does not make it that far after falling into the pool
      the final frame of that animation has him freeze there upside down and there is an unused animation labeled "dunbat_down" were it has the same position, twitching mildly

    Seeing the inside of the Dunbat made me realize that at some point in development, the player was actually supposed to use it. You could argue otherwise, considering you were probably meant to see some of the interior regardless via some cams.
    But that doesn't explain the healing flower/pod in the top left and how in first person Simon would fit incredibly well with Catherine easily being able to be seen on the little monitor above the joystick. Maybe it's a reach, but the Dunbat just feels like it was meant to be playable and was cut pretty late into development.

      Possibly yes, the console inside even has a socket for the Omnitool

    • @TheArtkaw

      It makes sense, since a lot of stuff was cut or rewritten.

      There's also details that the player would never see. Like the back on the interior having wau vines where the camera can't even see

    • @lambdalabs7807
      @lambdalabs7807 Před 2 měsíci +2

      I bet interior is so detailed because they wanted to make the player think it was a playable space (adding interactive objects like the omnitool panel and healing flower) to make the reveal that the DUNBAT was compromised more suprising

    I find the scene with the DUNBAT waking up to be the most disturbing moment in the game. The alarms, the flashing lights, the yelling, the fact that he's screaming at Catherine specifically...

  • @josuealejandro4961
    @josuealejandro4961 Před 10 měsíci +62

    Always wondered if it was conscious during the months before or if it was woken up by Simon.
    He seemed not that confused and more stressed out, like he had been stuck for a while

    • @SgtThiel
      @SgtThiel Před 10 měsíci +19

      I think he was unconscious, otherwise the sheer I-have-no-mouth-and-i-must-scream would have rendered him incoherent. Like the guy in omnicron's laboratory ( the universal helper ). Poor dude

    I found it very fitting the despair in this game when having the one and only possible method (or more like robot) in order to progress, suddenly gaining sentience and squirming around, have an existential crisis and disappearing, leaving us behind. That gave some feels right there.
    Very nice experimentation with the scenes. The switching between real footage and detailed model inspection is a great touch.

    • @umukzusgelos4834
      @umukzusgelos4834  Před 9 měsíci +7

      Well, I want to do these games justice and so try to go for a less clinic and more of an immersive approach
      it depends of course what I´m working with but this is such a powerful scene that it just felt wrong to just show it all in the grey void, devoid of all emotion

    I always loved Catherine’s childish glee every time she went “DUNBAT!”

  • @HomeJ22
    @HomeJ22 Před 10 měsíci +62

    It was such a missed opportunity that the Dunbat wasn't a threat in the abyss. Imagine if it was chasing us and inadvertently saved us from the leviathan, got damaged in the scuffle, and then the game gives us an opportunity to either permanently shut down the dunbat or walk away, all the while the personality trapped inside is screaming for the torment to end..

      Soma is one of those games that is perfect imo, and i would change nothing about it. This suggestion is the first time that i think could improve the game even more.

  • @misterwolf3817

    You know, the weirdest part is that WAU actually found out how to ressurect humans (Stross and Simon), but... I dunno... maybe it needed a bit more time? I wish WAU trained more.

    • @eloi4297
      @eloi4297 Před 10 měsíci

      For all of its creations the WAU uses structure gel, since is the only way it can interact with both machines and biological matter. Even if the WAU moved closer to create something akin to a human, it would never be so due to structure gel. Whatever is the result it will never be fully organic, thus I always kill the WAU.

    • @serioussponge6416
      @serioussponge6416 Před 9 měsíci +3

      It didn't understand what worked and so it had to figure it out, hence all the different kinds of experiments. Simon ended up being the most perfect of those experiments as far as we saw them. It's why I ended up choosing to spare the WAU as it's possible that, given more time, it could fix everything that happened to the world in some capacity. Perhaps what would come to inherit earth wouldn't strictly be 'humanity' as we understand it, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be worthy of existing. Humanity did nothing to earn it's right to exist, why should it be our place to judge what sort are our 'descendants' so?

    • @fredphillips547
      @fredphillips547 Před 4 měsíci

      @@serioussponge6416 I don't know. By the time we reach the abyss we are welcomed with WAU-mutated fish. I'm afraid it would try to override all fauna in it's mission to "preserve humanity". If the WAU didn't mess with fishes, maybe animals could survive and inherit the earth.

    I honestly wish we got to use the Dunbat. I know it is now technically alive, but maybe we could have helped it be at peace with it's new state of being. I think it is clear at this point that the Dunbat knows he's a submarine and is freaked out by it.

  • @Tenderofyggdrasil

      I have yet plans for more SOMA content including Simons body, Catherine, the MS Curie, The WAU, the space gun and some others
      Depending on what may be interesting I might also include some more unused/cut content
      though with Christmas rolling closer chances are, my job will keep me occupied as well, so we will see how things turn out

      Unchecked AI with only vague directive as "preserve humanity" that act like a cancer, assimilating Earth ecosystem (what's left of it anyway) and populating it with nightmarish creatures containing brain scans of few dozens people who never give a permission to do so to them. That's automated hell.
