  • In this video I remove the blown out shocks in my Gen 2 Ford Raptor. The shocks in it were toast so I ordered a rebuilt set from Texas Shock Works (not sponsored, I purchased these with my own dollars) and I show you how I installed those and my struggles. I end the video taking the Raptor down a bumpy road near by that is not maintained by the town or state. I don't even know if it has a name, but it's not a Class VI road. Maybe it is maintained? Well, whatever. It's got big dips and whatever else making it fun to bomb down on. We got a ton of rain around Christmas which was a couple days prior to my filming this video so a lot of the water ended up standing, and freezing so there's a lot of ice covering most of this road so it's not as "baja" as it could be considering the good stuff is under ice. Any who, watch, enjoy, like, subscribe, all that awesome stuff. See you on the next one!

    Thanks for making the video. There are not many shock replacement videos for the Gen 2 Raptor on CZcams. 👍

    Did you have any rattling before you replaced the shocks and then did it go away after? Just ordered mine from TSW and wondering if I should replace my sway bar links as well.

      I didn’t really have any rattles, but the ride was feeling harsh. If you’re feeling rattles, it could be your sway bar links or the sway bar bushings. Get under there with a pry bar and start prying at those components to see if there’s a lot of play, this way you’re not throwing money at parts for nothing lol.

    Did you torque all the suspension with it on jackstands? I was always told to torque suspension components once it's on ground with compression. I'm about to do mine this week, i just don't think i can torque the lower bolts enough with it on the ground haha

      I did after I filmed it, it’s not as easy to show on camera with the wheel on. Just get the components a little more than snug, put the wheel on, roll it up onto ramps and then get under it and torque it down.

    How did you like dealing with TSW for the shock rebuild?

    • @iambigsteveo
      @iambigsteveo  Před 6 měsíci +1

      They were great. I didn’t really have any direct contact with them, I handled it all online. Once I got my old shocks out and the rebuilt ones in, I put the old ones back in the box they sent the rebuilts in, slapped on the included shipping label and I got the core charge refunded in a couple weeks. Easy peasy. I definitely recommend them.

    Probably a stupid question, but are the spring hats clocked, and how do you clock them? I'm takling this, but went for all new components and taking to a shop to do the springs. Just want to ensure they're put on correctly and I'm not hosed when I go to swap everything.

      I honestly can't remember what the top hat looks like, but I know the shock has a spring perch with a notch so the spring sits correctly. I remembered fastening the top hat down without a struggle and nothing looked out of norm. The same amount of threads where showing once I got the spring set on the replacement shock with the top hat in place before I started tightening the nut down to hold the top hat in place. I imagine if I didn't have the top hat sitting correctly, it wouldn't have looked right. I hope this helps!

      @@iambigsteveo I ended up finding some guidance from the Raptor forum and calling TSW. There is one stud on the hat that is offset further from the other two. That stud should align to the hole in the lower strut mount. Then the other side assembly, the hat will be turned 180 degrees from the other one already assembled.

    I bought my raptor used, im at 100K miles. The shocks seem squshy. Seems very bouncy, is this what you expireanced prior to putting in new?

    • @iambigsteveo
      @iambigsteveo  Před 6 měsíci

      Mine appeared to be squishy and bouncy, yes. Especially when I hit gaps and cracks on the road, I would feel fast bounce like a Looney Toons boing-oing-oing-oing feeling indicative of less dampening and the spring bouncing the tire in and out. It’s really hard to explain over text haha but swapping in rebuilts, it really helped. Also make sure to check your rear leaf springs, if they look like a W, or flat and straight, then that’s not helping your ride either. I swapped in Icon leafs and it made a big difference for the ride quality after I got the rebuilt shocks in.

    Did you notice a big difference in performance?

    • @iambigsteveo
      @iambigsteveo  Před 10 měsíci +2

      It feels more solid and planted, but I learned that my rear leaf packs were flatter than pancakes so once I replaced my leafs with Icons, the vehicle became even more solid. Definitely recommend this setup.
