At the beginning, Shiro was running multiple calculations trying to figure out how the girl was cheating, but couldn't. From that observation, Sora assumed magic as it would be the only explanation. I think the visual we see of the elf's eyes is only for our purpose as a viewer, not that they can actually perceive it.

There was a mistake in the translation of the rock paper scissors game he meant that he could only win with paper, if he won with something else it would be a tie or defeat

What he meant by only playing paper is that he could only win with paper, if he won with rock or scissors, it meant that Steph lost as per the outcome of the match and he lost per that self imposed rule making it a tie.
So traditionally, Sora won with rock and the Princess lost with scissors. But with that rule he made up it became a tie. So the probability of him drawing is 5/9, losing is 3/9 and winning is 1/9. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@philiptombe5708 Yeah, and that's a huge plot point in the series. I think it was episode 4 where it broke that down a bit further about "having proper knowledge".
Nothing would have happened to Seph if she had taken the dress. Once you win an item you can do with it as you please and Clammy gave it to Steph so it was OK, pledge wise. However, the point of the gesture was to show Steph that she is at Clammy's mercy. It was basically a power move to humiliate Steph.

In the light novel it states that her taking back the dress would have resulted in some form of punishment. Since the dress was one through the pledges Steph can only get it back by winning
@@Zeak10100 No, it said just that "she would have paid a price" for it. but not specifically something pledge related. It can't work like that because then if you win something, anything, it would mean that the one you won it from can ever EVER use it again, which we've seen is not the case. You can win an item and give it back to the one you won it from, but the one who lost it simply cannot take it back without permission. Also, we already know Clammy is not malicious, so she would not have done something to actively harm Steph. It was just a power move.

This is an anime where you have to pay attention. If you take your eyes off the screen, carrying on conversations while something is being explained, etc you are going to miss stuff and probably be confused.

He can’t see magic they just could tell from being so good at games that cheating was happening.
He knew Steph lost because Kurumi was cheating because of the hands and the way they played. They didn't know for sure it was magic until they read the books. They clocked the Elf was helping by noticing how she was acting during the game but Shiro even said she didn't know _how_ they were cheating just that they were cheating. That's why they couldn't openly call them out for cheating because they'd have to prove it was happening and since humans don't have magic, they wouldn't actually be able to prove it.
Edit: Sora wasn't actually beating off, he was playing on his phone but it was made to look like he was having a grand old time! You can hear the tapping on his phone in the scene too!
This series is basically "mindgames, son" any time Sora or Shiro takes the field.
Also, the pledges aren't just "discount Ten Commandments". You're literally MADE to uphold them. So if you lose a bet, the universe itself will MAKE you pay up.

So to clarify when he said "The game had already begun." he's referring to the end scene of episode 1 if you rewatch it you'll see what the note said on his phone. also, No Steph would not have died it would just be her with her dress. I suggest just watching ep 1 on your own to see what you may have missed when you guys talked, you'll need to be focused on this anime cause in a way it's like death note with the planning and such.

Neither sibling can see magic. The sister was watching two girls playing poker and was smart enough to see that one was cheating somehow, but couldn’t figure out how. The brother knows his sister is a super genius, especially in regards to math, so if she couldn’t figure out how the girl was cheating, it had to be because of something she couldn’t see, and the only new variable that was introduced to their world view was the existence of magic. And he deduced that the hooded figure keeping a close eye on the game in the back must have been the one enabling the cheating with magic.
As to the Rock Paper Scissors game, he could only play paper if he wanted to straight up win. If he played paper and Steph played rock, then he wins. Obviously if he plays paper and she plays scissors, he loses and if both play paper they draw. If he plays anything else other than paper, then at best he can draw if what he plays beats what she played. Basically, he wanted to draw from the start because he set terms where a draw massively favored him under the rules, and Steph missed that because she was only thinking about the game itself and not his non-specific wording in regards to his demands.

Sora and Shiro saw both of their two hands in the first episode and the hands were literally impossible to get.
It actually changed the color and value of the card, which the only explanation for is magic.

The rock, paper, scissors match is actually pretty simple- he can only win with paper, using rock or scissors to win is a draw, a draws still a draw and a loss is a loss

Basically the catch with the rock paper scissors game is that Sora can only play paper to "Win" but he never said that he wouldn't play rock or scissors. The only thing is that if he plays anything other than paper then its his loss, but if he play something other than paper but wins the for example if Sora plays rock and Stephanie plays scissors then he wins the match but loses the game. In that situation its a tie, if Sora plays rock and Stephanie plays paper then he loses completely. Also with the so called seeing magic, Sora never saw magic, he saw that Kurami, the girl the Stephanie was versing in poker in episode one had cards of the same suit and value which is impossible in a single deck of cards. As for Shiro she was trying to figure out the possibility of Kurami being able to draw those cards to get the hand that she had but she couldn't that was why Shiro said that she didn't know how. Because Sora and Shiro know that they are in a fantasy world wherein magic exists since that was how they got there in the first place then that was the only possible way they could see Kurami being able to get the hand of cards she had to beat Stephanie.
Regarding rock, paper, scisor's game, Sora said that if he uses anything else but paper he would lose, but he also mentioned there was the posibility of a draw. So that's what he was looking for, a draw

The funny thing is despite the extremely "wild" way the siblings act even the "fall in love with me" order was a test to see how far the pledges could affect someone. Most people would normally just miss it because of the overflowing fan service as well as the questionable sibling relationship but they're like beyond geniuses in almost every facet. Only real weakness being they really can't function without the other which was shown, even though it was in a very comical manner. It's so easy to laugh at this anime but in reality the mind games that goes on at its core is really impressive in so many ways. It took me a couple of watches over some years to actually understand how scary this duo really is. Loving the reactions, it's going more or less as expected because of very obvious reasons but still hilarious to watch

Shiro and Sora have severe anxiety and can't be separated. And Sora is not sexually attracted to his sister, but they are uncomfortably/unhealthily close to each other because of that co-dependance.

As others pointed out, it was a mistranslation, he could only *win* with paper. He could still play other things.
The point was that he turned it into a mind game, like telling your opponent what you’re going to do before you do it to make them second guess themselves and overthink it (which is exactly what Steph did)

Took me long time to figure out Sora's RPS bet. Him playing anything but Paper loses, but if he plays something else R or S and she loses, he also loses, and its a draw. Except that She challenged him, so she needs to win. Her loss (draw) is a double loss for her, so Sora wins.
