  • Footage taken at this weekend at the Ffestiniog railway Bygones Weekend. The Gravity stale train was hauled up from Minffordd, with a stop at Tan-y-Bwlch, to Dduallt by Double Fairlie Merddin Emrys. There, the engine was detached and the train ran back by gravity to Minffordd
    This re-enacts how the slate trains originally ran down to Porthmadog during the 1840’s and 1850’s until the first steam locos, Mountaineer and The Princess were delivered in 1863

    Found this video particularly interesting as I have just finished reading "Death in the Last Carriage" which includes a runaway gravity train in the storyline.
