  • Smt.S.Somwy's Muthuswami Diksthar Krithis.
Muthuswami Dikshitar (24 March 1775 - 21 October 1835) was a South Indian poet, singer and Veena player, and a legendary composer of Indian classical music, who is considered one of the musical trinity of Carnatic music. His compositions, of which around 500 are commonly known, are noted for their elaborate and poetic descriptions of Hindu gods and temples and for capturing the essence of the raga forms through the vainika (veena) style that emphasises gamakas. They are typically in a slower speed (chowka kala). He is also known by his signature name of Guruguha which is also his mudra (and can be found in each of his songs). His compositions are widely sung and played in classical concerts of Carnatic music.
According to legend, Murugan, the deity of the temple at Tirutani, placed a piece of sugar candy in Dikshitar's mouth and commanded him to sing. This marked the beginning of his career in music and also led to him adopting the mudra, Guruguha, one of the many names of Murugan.[5] His first composition was Śrināthādi guruguho jayati jayati in the raga Maya Malavagaula and Adi tala.
This song addressed the Lord (and/or the guru) in the first declension(Vibhakthi) in Sanskrit. Dikshitar later composed kritis in all the eight declensions on the Lord. These are mostly with epithets glorifying Muruga in the ascetic/preceptor form and have very few references to specifically the deity in the saguna form, as at Thiruthani.
A Carnatic musician by profession, Sowmya’s life has been soaked in melody from the very beginning. Growing up in a traditional South Indian family, she had her initial tutelage in music from her father Dr. Srinivasan, a Chemical Engineer with an enduring passion for Carnatic Music. Later she was singularly fortunate to be taken under the wings of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. S. Ramanathan - exemplary musician, esteemed musicologist and extraordinary human being. She received further training from Smt. T. Muktha, of the legendary Brinda-Muktha duo. She attributes her success and achievements till today to these individuals and to the bountiful blessings of her beloved Ambal, the Goddess Kamakshi of Kanchipuram. The desire to propagate the traditions of South Indian music worldwide led her to establishCarnatica, an institution dedicated to music & dance instruction, archival, talent search and other related activities. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Sowmya also has excellent academic credentials. She is a double postgraduate (Master’s in Chemistry as well as Indian Music) and was a top-ranked scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) and the University of Madras. Currently pursuing doctoral research under the guidance of Dr. Premeela Gurumurthy at the University of Madras, Sowmya is a widely traveled, popular vocalist who strives to adhere to the strict classical values imbibed from her gurus Dr. Ramanathan and Smt. Mukta.

Smt. Sowmya Madam in full flow in this Album with her Voice @ its best. It's Quite heartening to listen to Smt. Sowmya's new album after a very Long Gap for me. Her's is a rare voice mixed with the elements of both Sweetness as well as Majesty and well known for emitting telling brigaas & gamakams. In this Album in particular, she's in full flow with an energetic rendition. Each Kriti has been sung wonderfully by her reflecting her penchant for delivering marked Gamakams & Brigaas with Crystal clear Diction with Maaya MaaLava GowaLa & Poorvi Kalyani stand shining in particular. 👍🙏
