    Regarding all the comments on Maestro and climbing prowess - My $0.02: I'm riding a 2021 Trance X 29-2 and I find that having the DPS in the down position really helps in climbing. I do find some pedal bob in the open position but the switch to the down position takes like 0.25 seconds so I don't see an issue. And, as everyone has echoed, the downhills and over rocky/rooty terrain is where the Maestro shines. I've taken crazy downhills that I should have been tossed off/over the bike and the Trance X handles it.

    Over 10years of mountain biking, I had tried Giant, Specialized and Trek full suspension mountain bikes with their respective suspension technologies, from Maestro, Brain, APV, etc. Specialized's suspension is one of the most efficient and near zero pedal bobs and followed very closely by Trek. Giant's Maestro is on top when it comes to riding comfort and plushness. I prefer Maestro especially on harsher trails or terrain. If you want to race on smoother climbs and flats, Specialized and Trek are better.

    • @jaysealenduro5618

      You want to know the real secret, giant maestro is a copy of DW link and trek's FF and it performs very similar as well as other brand with the same "Floating suspension" but what makes trek abp and DW SP better because it's the only true sus. tech to eliminate 99% of the brake jack that means it's a better suspenion for aggressive decenders... But for me i prefer maestro over vpp and spec brain but spec fsr and Dw suspension are just superior for long travel AM bikes, just being unbiased you know some of these brands have different sus. Tech for their specific bikes i consider trek to have the best of both World's on all cat. Their own suspension design + propriety shock looks very simple but works incredibly phenomenal. The funny thing is my 7 year old trek remedy with full floater + abp + drcv shock still better than some newly released mtb today as tested in real world😄

    You know, I didn't even realize until recently that this wasn't a plain old Horst link (or the Giant version of one). I just didn't look closely. It was exceptionally hard to find a trail bike to purchase this year (COVID) and I took what I could get, but, had I known this, I likely would have held out a little longer and tried to find a Trance. It makes sense that this totally different 4-bar setup would have the characteristics being claimed. I especially like that there is no pivot point out at the end of the chain stay. You should play this up more on your website so that newbies (or those of us coming back to the game after a 12-year hiatus) can learn the difference.

    • @hannes6114
      @hannes6114 Před 2 lety

      Isn't it a single pivot design? I mean it's a virtual one but still...

    • @sonofawil
      @sonofawil Před 2 lety +1

      @@hannes6114 no, it's a 4-bar linkage but both lower pivot points are close to the bottom bracket, instead of one pivot point near the bottom bracket and one at the end of the chain stays (like a Horst). If you look at a picture of the suspension from the non-chain side of the bike, you'll see one pivot point at the bottom of the shock and the other immediately behind the bottom bracket The chain and seat stays just act as a large fixed triangle that translates the motion of the virtual linkage bar between the rear pivot points out to the wheel. That's how they get a more vertical wheel path, whereas the wheel path of a single pivot is always an arc.
      This website has a good view of the linkage: www.pinkbike.com/news/Giant-Trance-Advanced-SX-First-Ride-2013.html
      One more note: I'm using the term 4-bar linkage in the engineering sense. People often interchange Horst and 4-bar. Both twin link and Horst-link suspensions are 4-bar linkages in that they have 4 pivot points with fixed distances between them. Giant's Maestro is a lot like a twin link but the placement of the upper pivot points on the seat tube and immediately behind, helps it get a better wheel path.

      Also, I wound up buying a Trance for my son. It was completely random and not because of this video. New bikes are still scarce here and we had a sudden need to upgrade so we could give his old XC to my niece. A 2020 Trance was the only thing on the local used market that wasn't north of $5k.

    • @hannes6114
      @hannes6114 Před 2 lety +1

      @@sonofawil ok - thank you :) So It's kind of a better single pivot but actually a four-bar. Needed that information for the calculation of the right spring for my maybe soon to be bought coil shock since I bought a 2015 Reign and the rear shock isn't all that great - but I haven't really dialed it in yet so it might actually turn out to be working fine in the future.

    • @sonofawil
      @sonofawil Před 2 lety

      @@hannes6114 "kind of a better single pivot" ... well that sort of depends what you consider the defining feature of a single pivot. It has a solid rear triangle, i.e., none of the pivot points are inside the stays. That's a feature that all single pivots share but the Santa Cruz two link system also has that feature. Ultimately it pivots around four points instead of just one, so more bushings/bearings and more surfaces rubbing, so it ultimately lacks the ruggedness inherent to a true single pivot. If setting the shock is your goal, I would think that, since shock movement translates into nearly vertical wheel travel, it would feel less progressive than suspensions that introduce a horizontal aspect to wheel motion towards the end of travel. That could conceivably be remedied with a small volume spacer in the shock.
      These are two other videos that I watched:
      czcams.com/video/R22aYVKaWnk/video.html
      czcams.com/video/nQYQNdO6Iaw/video.html
      When you look at the wheel path in that first video, it's very similar to the Horst-link suspension on the Specialized. Maestro manages pedal bob better but if your trying to dial it in for better response in your descent then I'd think that would be the one to model your settings on.
