Just what I needed (I am not from UK, lol), thanks very much. I was so confused when I was forced to use this in Liverpool, :) .

It's funny how there are various birds in crosswalk names but they're just abbreviations

If I understand correctly, these crossings should allow a large crowd of pedestrians to "freight train" the crossing, as the automotive signal stays red as long as the crossing is occupied. This presents creative opportunities for panhandling street performers wanting a captive audience. If enough people kick in a quid, the artist will clear the crossing and be off before the police show up. Alternatively, one could just sit back and enjoy the show while waiting for the final act.

The crossing times out after a while*, so said person would have drivers very unhappy with them blocking the road when traffic has a green light, no different to them stopping in the middle of a road (though there's a clearly stated law saying you mustn't loiter on crossings).
      * assumedly so a sensor failure doesn't end up shutting a road down for ages!

...and get run over by a speeding nutcase. Hmmm.
    No crossing is totally safe.
Please get rid of non traffic light crossings and crossing countdown boxes, everywhere, all authorities. 😠

So you propose that every single zebra crossing be kitted out with traffic lights. Please can you show me to this money tree you've discovered? It would be very expensive and is unnecessary. A nutcase driver might hit you at any crossing, cause they're a nutcase, whatever traffic lights you have

@@grassytramtracks In my area they ripped out two Pelican crossings on a dangerous road and replaced them non traffic light ones. Crossing are for traffic flow, not to protect people with walking disabilities like me.

@@julianaylor4351 did they put in zebra crossings?

@@grassytramtracks Zebra crossings with pelica beacons, which drivers just ignore, which is why people get run over and on the pelicans, and all the other crossings there are countdowns, some of which are too short. Crossings are tested by young men, so they are always improperly set, for other pedestrians.
