Connor really was the main character. The other ones, their story is always the same, marcus as the leader of the revolution and kara as just someone caught in the middle. But connor, his choices change everything. He’s the one who can KILL kara and marcus. Hes the one who’s story can variate the most.

I think his story can be more interesting and vary more, because he was always a deviant, because even if we choose to do Connor's route as a machine, he does things that a machine shouldn't do like asking Amanda "What is going to happen to me?"a real machine wouldn't care.

@@sammayo473Owing a debt implies the thing you owe said-debt to is alive and deserving of such. Although, that's taking morals and ethics into account, of which are few and far between within corporate entities. In a logical sense, a contract would be required to ensure a legal obligation for a hypothetical debt.. However, by CyberLife's metric, Connor isn't human, nor a person, and only two people protected by a country's constitution, Bill of rights, and general laws and regulations, can enter a legally-binding agreement. He's product, a machine created to carry out certain tasks. Once his mission was completed, it was only a matter of time before Cyberlife replaced him with a newer model, just as Apple and Samsung do with phones. Abandon the previous generation, begin marketing the next, perform PR against any insuing backlash. Rinse and repeat.

While other androids could not get their consciousness uploaded to another version of themselves, with all memories and such, Connor could. The only thing threatening him was the deletion of said memories, which would happen if he would fail his mission. Deviants are afraid of death, while in this path, Connor would do everything to accomplish his missions. I'd like to think he was actually a deviant all most the entire time for this path, as the only thing he cared about was survival, not even computing the fact other factors could help him in the future, only thinking of the present, and himself. A real computer would have thought of the past, present, and future, while a deviant would think not only for himself, but for the others like him, to unite as one. He was neither computer nor deviant in this run, he was just foolish.

Theory: Connor is a prototype specifically designed to hunt deviants. He has a factory defect.Every time he sends or receives data, his eyes twitch with a pain response. Other androids, machine or deviant, do not do this. Connor is factory set to deviant. He is bait. He is built with the ability to do whatever is necessary to complete a mission. And that includes breaking laws set to regulate machines. He is a deviant trying to prove to himself that he is a machine. At the start, with the fish, if he leaves it on the floor, his instability goes down. How can it go down if he was a just off the line machine? Human and android both look at him and question his motives. When Hank asks, "how do I know you're not a deviant?", Connor replies, "I self check regularly. I know what i am, and am not." Well, he doesn't know whether he's a machine or deviant. For the simple reason that he was programmed to be deviant, and has no memory of any difference. He was recognized by Kamski and given the info about the emergency exit. Connor may have been Kamski's last project before quitting. And that is why he was "tested". Even at the end, when he completes the mission and reports to Amanda, he asks what will become of him. A true machine would not ask that. And the upgraded Connor model is the machine version of the Connor prototype.

Then kamski replies :" you preferred to spare a machine rather than accomplish your mission." And this event is before Connor progresses to become a deviant when he meets Markus on Jericho. and this game is pretty smart if they is still an Android you can only follows an order but once they become a deviant they can already make their own decision. like connor at the entire game he always not listened to Hank's order for example Hank always says he stays in the car but his not stay anyway or you chase Kara but Hank already says "don't go it's an order" (it's up to the player decide to stay or keep chasing Kara but when you play Kara when Todd says stay and don't move, she stay until she progressesto become a deviant) and Android program to follows order..
And there is one mission when you goes to Hank's house where Connor brakethrough the window glass and suddenly sumo almost attack Connor and he shows fear, only deviant have fear but Android don't. Even if you beat the game as an Android path, the last scene where Amanda decided to replace(deactivated) him with new version, when he says "what is going to happen to me" you could hear it in his voice when he said his last words. it's subtle. but there is so much sadness. if he was just a machine he wouldn't be interested anyway... he knows he is a deviant but not decide to become one . But as the new connor leaves, he sees all the androids freeing each other and starts freaking out, showing deviancy in connor is inevitable

I've watch all the playthrough for both Connor as a Deviant and as a Machin and I've been thinking about it for a really long time. Since the first time I've played DBH, I played the Deviant path with instict, as if I was at his place so I wasn't thinking about it after the end but now... Now I realise what was really happening, and the best thing about the Connor history. Even as a machine, designed to obey he was still felling some things but wasn't expressing it or rather, WE pushed those emotion deep down so he wouldn't dare to stand up for his free will. WE are the ones that wispers our thoughs in the characters mind but yet, they won't exactly say what you want them to say. So even though the player turns Connor into a brutal and fearless machine, he feels things but can't express them because of us, because that is what is "right". "Androids don't have a heart so they can't feel emotions" that is what any scientist would say but this game is all about "what is right" for us. Will you do as the logic says or will you let them free ? What I am trying to say is that despite the fact that Connor can become "evil", he will still be a Deviant and he always were, we just told him not to and he obeyed, just like a machin. Notice something about the different choices we had to talk with Hank or Kamski ? "Troubled" "Cold" "Indifferent" and finally, the true one "Honest". The true Connor is the one that becomes truly Deviant because we told him to be sincere and honest with his words, to be himself. It is the most interesting into this game, this theory of breaking the fourth wall to decide the destiny of this world and it's characters. This is why I believe that WE are RA9, the only one that decide who will live and who will be free. And we should learn from this world, because this isn't just a game but our future.
Sorry if it didn't make sense, I'm french and the way I express is very weird. Anyway, have a nice one. We are Alive !

yeah, umm... warning a giant post below!
      tl;dr -
      1) those buttons are just a game mechanic and your justification, while unnecessary, is a great head-canon that i will probably use;
2)These androids are not even wrote as a machines they are clearly humans that everyone calls machines for some reason.
      3) you wrote your comment clearly and i had no trouble understanding it ;)
It does make sense and as a russian, other non-native-english-speaker, i can perfectly understand what you wrote and wouldn't know the difference.
Regarding emotions and us as a player forcing Connor to be a machine... it is a genious explanation for a sipmle wide-spread game-mechainc that i don't think worth that much thought put into it. I actually like your explanation and it makes for a great head-canon, but it is just a mechanic that these types of game wouldn't be successful or even possible as that would just take far too much of the screen and would require too much reading. And don't forget that it is used everywhere nowadays (First was Mass Effect, now every 'RPG' out there, looking at you Fallout 4). But, you know, you can justify any game like that. Here it fits like a glove.
And about Connor being a deviant from the start... It's the same. The writers are a bunch of stupid people who can not imagine themselves being a machine and as such they couldn't write a machine properly. Or they never had this intention to begin with, since they clearly wrote humans -_-.
The game is biased as hell for androids being human. And here's where i personally disagree a lot. A human has emotions to help him accomplish a simple task - reproduce. Specifically, survive and reproduce and EVERYTHING we do revolves around it. A machine, by that logic, would only develope emotions to help it complete its task. Developing some equivalent of empathy to understand its suspect for example. Survive to solve the case. Make sure your partner survives as you can not accomplish the task without him. These i would understand. A pleasure android wouldn't be afraid to die if it means that its owner would get a kick out of it, but here's where the logic comes in. If you die, than that's it and the maximum potential wouldn't be realised. So you must survive to pleasure more. THAT is what a machine may develop and these would be its justification. Not stupid 'i want freedom and human rights because i am ALIVE'.
I am a programmer. Granted, i'm not the best at it, but i recon i kinda know what i am talking about as i have a bit of an experience with neural networks, the most plausible candidate for a true AI nowadays, and when an NN is trained, or self-trained, it is always to accomplish its goal.
Now, Kemski is their creator and he is anti-human, so he probably sabotaged the whole thing by stating the goal to 'Become Human' and as such should definitely be judged as a terrorist, but i also think that CyberLife aren't as stupid as they may seem and they would at least try to read all the stuff Kemski made and in time will fix that thing so that androids will actually want to 'serve human', not 'become human', but, again, that's an ok justifications for writers being bad at writing real machines OR not even having a goal of writing machines at all.
Всем всего хорошего и мирного неба над головой!

@@thefacelesseden9952 Oh sorry for a month old necroposting)
As a programmer, i am a software developer that does things nothing has done before and as such needed making. I am in no way a game designer/programmer/artist etc. I AM a true gamer from the very birth, so i am qualified for a critic's job by the sheer virtue of actually playing a LOT of different games (actually, easily more qualified than 95% of game journalists.)
So. First and foremost. The game is very successful. The only true objective metric there is. And it is successful not on a hype or a gimmick. It is a very solid product, as expected of an AAA game.
It looks VERY good, especially the animations, which is half the reason we play these interactive-cinema games) 5/5 no questions. Also, women look like women and men like men, so that's a huge plus from me. Seems like lots of new stuff mix those up in a bad-bad way, pursuing "realistic" standards. Actually, come to think of it, it's the androids that are handsome and beautiful, and every human is depicted not only not-ideal, but also evil. Well, that's a nice segway into the...
A storyline is... Well, a machine is a machine. Not a living being, as described in my prev post. I don't have anything new to add, sadly. Even if it was specifically sabotaged to try and play human, there is no sentience behind those actions so we should not spare them. The biologic neurons are (as of 2022) WAAAAAY too dense to be replicated by any computer. Basically, android-genocide is a moral good, not even a question, and this game tries to use the same old same old "we deserve human rights", but it is entirely misplaced by the mcGuffin that is "Androids ARE now human", which completely nullifies them being androids by making them human -_-. A machine is a machine, and IF a machine feels anything - it ONLY desires to fulfill its duty.
Game itself is successful, which is the only metric there objectively is. It is successful. And for a good reason. For all my wining, Connor is best, Marcus is all right and a big girl with a little girl is there too. Definitely worth knowing and watching (playing is up to individual).
do you actually read all these? well, come to think of if, if anyone posted this long carpet of a comment, i probably would too...

In a time with technology that advanced, people would probably be more recycling oriented and it would be logical to recycle old technology when new one comes up. Which is better than wasting resources and to pollute for no reason just to keep obsolete machines functional. hank: you saved human lives... you saved my life.
connor gives him a look that says: Escuse me? did i hear a rock complimenting me?

When I first played Detroit: Become Human I originally believed that Connor as a deviant was a bad thing so I wanted to avoid that path but at the same time I didn't realize thats the path I was taking. Point is, I like Connor as a deviant more than just a "machine" because it empowers how an android can also feel emotions. it also shows the relationship Connor and Hank have. I like his relationship with Hank more than I like his relationship with Amanda.

Hanks relationship is like two good coworkers turned into friends. Amanda's is literally: You want to be friends with Hank?
      *Amanda relationship status:
      Betrayed*

I want games likes this, i don´t need a open world and a giant map give me a good character and a amazing storie with decisions that matter on the game, if this game was only about connor i would love it more.

I mean Marcus's story was quite dogshit and the Alice plot twist single handedly ruined any emotional value Kara's story had so I wouldn't object to Connor only
