    Thanks for posting this. I'm looking to buy my first airbrush and pen vs pistol was a big debate. Being a righty and having broke the thumb twice, pinky and middle once each and spiral shattered the ring finger.....there's issues to contend with as I'm north of 50.... LOL!
    Plus, I'm a weldor and MIG weld mostly (Trigger pull ) and have used a pistol grip on rattle cans by the thousands for decades, the Swallowtail just kinda made sense.
    But, knowing nothing about Ab's, I'm binging YT for info. And I'm old enough and experienced enough to know to not go cheap for some tools as they are more expensive in the long run. ;)
    I like that the Swallow comes with a broad set of needle/tip sizes. I just want to see opinions other than from the guys involved in the design. That not being a slight on Mr. Barbatos, but there would be a bias there by nature. :)
    Good to know other size needles will work! Your the first I've seen to test this!
    ???- Would you suggest, when buying the Swallowtail, that I get the extra parts kits (the nozzle, cap and needle kits, in one of each size) and a couple extra sets of the o-ring kits? I assume these are consumables and will need replacing?
    Thank you again for the vid!
    Bert

    I have a 68 which stopped working after a couple of weeks. They are sending a new one. Customer service is superb 👌

      That is very cool, not even a new part just a whole new airbrush?

      @garys_stuff Yes. Whole brand new airbrush shipped by DHL from the USA. VERY impressed with that level of customer service. I will probably buy more of thier stuff in the future. If the missus let's me, seeing g as I have hundreds of pounds worth or unbuilt Airfix kits. Even bought the Bentley Blower, which I will probably never build, as I don't think I'm up to that level or ever will be!

      I'm told it's on the way (they gave me a FedEx number!) so shouldn't be too long now. Looks stunning, hope it performs as well...

    I'm a novice when it comes to airbrushing & also have arthritis in my fingers, mainly my 'strong'arm, (right hand) so i'm thinking that an airbrush like the swallowtail might be more comfortable.

    • @Ryotsu2112
      @Ryotsu2112 Před 6 měsíci

      Trust me, it is a lot more comfortable. The old school style airbrush design kills my index finger, and the trigger is easy and comfy.

  • @allanrichards3752
    @allanrichards3752 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I think I would find the differential spring action a bit more difficult to use for fine work like mottling. I like the pen action of push then pull back. I see these trigger airbrushes as more aligned with the art world and larger canvasses as you say.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Před 6 měsíci

      Indeed that's what i found - which is why I like that the 0.28 needle fits the other Ace level airbrush! Interestingly, their 0.2mm Premier airbrush recently announced is a pen-style not a trigger. The trigger is nicer for priming and varnishing.

    The guide on using the airbrush is a great idea! A similar idea to the sheet included in Airfix Starter Sets on techniques for model making. The only thing I would suggest to Gaahleri is that the guide would be /more/ use in their budget range of airbrushes, as I doubt one from the Ace range would be a purchaser's /first/ airbrush so would need less guidance on using it.
    WRT trigger or pen style design, I think as you implied Gary it's a matter of experience. Of a similar vintage I also grew up using pencils / pens for drawing. However I've grown up with computers too, so I'm used to different techniques, such as using a mouse for drawing on the screen. Anyway I think it's a 'suck it and see' situation :)

      @garys_stuff  Před 6 měsíci

      Pretty sure those little guides come with every Gaahleri air brush, so showing common faults, etc.

      I've always used a graphics tablet with a computer - well I have since about 1994 anyway. Soon as I encountered Photoshop (I think it was v.2.5, V.3 was when they introduced layers I believe).

    Out of curiosity Gary, what compressor setup are you using?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I'm using a Timbertech, which has served me very well, but thinking one with a reservoir might be better...

    Hi Gary, I think you're right that the pen style is probably easier to use on fine stuff, at least for those growing up with pencils (most of us). Buying two airbrushes for a bit of mix and match would stretch the budget a bit. Would the 0.28 etc be available as spares do you know?

    • @garys_stuff
