Due to an ambiguous border between the white and black sides of the neighborhood, the Presleys (and one other white family) ended up sharing a backyard with several black families. That's what exposed young Elvis to the blues and black radio. Then, when he was a teenager, the Presleys moved to Memphis. That's where Elvis started attending a black Baptist church and singing in the choir.

Absolutely. My dad was a Pentecostal preacher in Mississippi and Memphis. He became friends with Elvis during his HS days w working on jobs down along Thomas Street. Elvis visited our home in 56, 57, and 58, driving up in his Cadalilacs. I attended Humes High School after Elvis had graduated from there. Elvis saw my dad as a guru type preacher who was also associated with gospel singers. Dad said Elvis talked freely about his ancestry, not only verifying what it was, but encouraging dad to begin his own research and studies which went on into the 1980s. The mixed breed (German, Indian and black) was not rare for the area at the time; his background was a thing of pride and not shame for Elvis.

I'm fascinated with the Melungeons and I love Elvis, so I was so excited to see this video. The only problem with assuming Elvis was a Melungeon based on having "dark hair and dark eyes" is that Elvis's hair was naturally reddish blonde, and his eyes were blue. It's well known that he dyed his hair black like his mom's.

Whatever Elvis was he was the king of rock and roll my mother said when Elvis died we all learned we could die too that's how dear he was and just think he a twin the only thing is is Elvis has been investigated many times over
some investigations can only be done at the current time that means being there in the relevant because some things you have to be there for or authenticity it's because they take the information and the facts from different directions as far as DNA goes they got that covered they know what was his gene pool for instance I have a sister she has two brothers her brothers are not my Brothers my sister and I share the same father so how is it that her brothers are not related to me at all and their children not related
but they're related to my sister
It gets complicated especially the more kids that are born and the in-laws your children are related to your in-laws by blood for that but you will never be related to to your in-laws by blood your blood except for your child and every child after that is now blood related and you of course by bloodliñe so thereafter share the same great-grandmother
Take the McCoy Hatfield days for the generations of their family possessed both Hatfield and McCoy blood running through one body
One more thing I know this is long enough already but I don't know if it's true but it was on current affair or something a while back where a child was actually born and had no genetic traits to mother first I didn't believe it but then I looked into it more and I'm still skeptical yet I have seen two brothers one with blonde hair and blue eyes and one with dark brown hair and eyes and they have the same mother the same father so I'm just wondering maybe and I've seensisters that look exactly alike but they're a year apart so is it possible for a child to get all their genes from one parent and nothing from another parent or just maybe one child's got more of this side of the family
Why some children look dead on their parents and some resemble both parents
We all loved Elvis most of us did anyhow
child hood is the most valuable precious time you can spend with someone and most adults used to get that the world was a different place so people didn't see what was coming because everyone thought they were on the same page basically on the same page and now now what's going on in the world and what I always end up commenting because it's completely terrifying to me is the gender reassignment surgery it has to come to stop and that means making sure they count your vote I always do my voting in person president Trump he will sign an executive order of the minute he gets into office the minute he gets into office the first thing he's going to do is sign an EXECUTIVE ORDER and put a STOP to gender reassignment surgery on children
He's going to STOMP ON IT
It's a very painful process for A CHILD and for the most part it is not their parents doing it to them these children have been unlawfully removed and sent FAR away and out in the middle of nowhere with twisted and sick adults because anyone that does a gender assignment surgery ON A CHILD needs to be hauled in
There's no excuses the ones that are doing this have union jobs that are even presenting this to a child teachers doctors they can go on strike for god sakes
surgeries contain more than one surgery it's rhinoplasty it's bottom surgery skin graphing PAINFUL BLOOD TRANSFUSION silicone in the body silicone top surgery CARBURETORS THE BOYS ARE PEEING OUT OF A HOLE the girls are growing hair on their FACE
      THE VOICE BOX
IT'S EXPERIMENTING ON CHILDREN WHILE THEY'RE STILL GROWING BEFORE THEY EVEN HIT PUBERTY TRYING TO MAKE THE BOYS HAVE A PERIOD AND TAKING THE PERIOD AWAY FROM THE GIRLS AND THEIR STERILIZING THESE IT'S NOT LEGAL AND IT'S NOT APPROPRIATE IT HAS CASTING NET ON OUR FUTURE AND DESTROYED IT IS DESTROYING THE BLOODLINES BECAUSE THEY'RE MIXING UP ALL THE DNAS ON PURPOSE AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING THEY'RE TAKING THE PROPERTY THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE THAT'S WHAT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO
Their bodies their bone structure changes this is all before they even hit puberty they're doing this to children 40 thousand American CHILDREN BORN WITH INALIENABLE RIGHTS
THE AGENCY OF CHILD SERVICES IS BEHIND ALMOST ALL OF THIS DISASTER IN THE WORLD THE DEFUNDING OF THE POLICE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE PULLED THE PLUG TO SOCIETY AND THEY'VE TAKEN PROTECTION OUT OF THE MIDDLE NAME THEY ARE CHILD SERVICES NOW THEY'RE NOT CPS AND THAT WAS A RED FLAG LONG
AT ONE POINT IN TIME CS WAS EVEN INVOLVED IN
      List Marie Presley's LIFE
Scientology has been after Elvis's estate before Elvis even married Priscilla
Only Elvis estate goes to Lisa Marie's
      Children
It's not Priscilla's to give away but with the paperwork and the way things are done who's to know 100 years from now who's really going to take over the estate Riley needs to be on her toes Priscilla has a son Lisa half brother but he will never be Elvis's son he's not related to Elvis at all yeah he's the brother of Lisa Marie
They're planning and state takeover and with the money that they have the Scientology and the documents that they already have access to
Call Ron Hubbard may have his wish
He will never be related to Elvis though as far as by blood his
So he's not the heir to the rightful heir he has a completely different set of
      It's called spiking the
      Punch

Yes to sum it up he is one of a kind but there's danger to the Elvis Fortune because of Priscilla and Priscilla's son and she has promised something that was not hers to promise to Scientology there's a lot of money there and they have access to all the documents and who's to say what's going to happen to Elvis's Fortune 100 years she wants to be buried next Elvis I never knew she had a son and I know almost what there is to know about Elvis whatever they've written my mother was a huge Elvis fan and he is relative the thing is they've been trying to take over his estate since before he even died and they have no intention I'm not doing it you're not supposed to mess with somebody's DNA
And they've already started documents are one thing but DNA that's the untouchable that is the untouchable not anymore they can take the DNA but they're never going to take Elvis out of his DNA

I don't believe that exploring someone's family history is "throwing dirt" on them. Several people have written "tell all" books since his passing for their own personal gain. That's pretty typical following the death of a huge celebrity and in his day there no one Bigger. The good ole USA is indeed a melting pot of many, many cultures. Unless a person is 100% verifiably descended from indigenous north American ancestry, we are All descended from a blend of varying backgrounds and I find it rather fascinating. At the end of the day we're all made up of minor variations of the same stuff.

When my oldest son was 18, he was in the Steve Martin written play, at our Community Theatre, he played Young Elvis, and he dyed his light brown, dark blonde hair black, he has the blue eyes and his facial features are very similar to Elvis’s. We watched a bunch of old Elvis movies to teach my son his facial expressions, which he nailed. My son has a cleft chin, fair skin, large blue eyes rimmed with long black eye lashes like his dad, and a semi wide nose with flared nostrils, like my dad. He looks so much like Elvis, naturally, he nailed that role. Maybe Elvis had some African DNA, who knows? Seems like a bunch of people are claiming Cherokee bloodlines. From the first picture I ever saw of Elvis decades ago - I just assumed he had 'something' in him. His looks are incredibly interesting. His phenotype is completely different from his father. His mother was very unusual looking (somewhat Portuguese looking as a whole). Elvis' first cousin Billy on his mother's side, who is swarthy, said they have native ancestry and his granddaughter (Riley) recently said on twitter they are both Cherokee and Crow. Elvis earliest maternal ancestor was 'Mansell' a Frenchman meaning 'man from Le Mans'. Elvis' close friend Larry Geller claims Elvis told that his mother said to keep his Jewish ancestry quiet because 'they don't like people like us'. Elvis' nostrils used to flare when is spoke or sang. He had some sort of correction in '57 according to his cousin. But you can see this bull like flare happen on his earlier films in '56. This can be done by removing flesh or cartilage, not necessarily a nose job. Elvis was a rock n roll pioneer when his created the Rockabilly sound - a fusion of country and R&B. Growing up in Mississippi and Memphis he was influenced by multiple genres. He was the explosion waiting to happen.

The Melungeon ancestry itself is of uncertain makeup. The best research shows only that it _may_ have included any number of combinations of Black, Middle Eastern, Cherokee, Hispanic, along with European. No one has been able to say for sure. Melungeon may have been a generic term during the colonial era for anyone who had the appearance of non-white ethnicity. There may have been many unconnected groups who were called that. Though with so many being in Wise County, Va. and other nearby counties in Tennessee and Kentucky, it is likely Melungeon is basically an ethnicity that descended from a single settlement, perhaps escaped slaves living in isolation, perhaps survivors of a Turkish or North African shipwreck, perhaps either or both of these groups, and perhaps blended with Cherokee they lived with. There are lots of theories.

You are much younger than me. The old history books stated that people used to think that the world was flat; because, many ships went to sea and some never came back. Those left back home thought the ships fell off the edge of the flat world. Some of those ships may have made it to this part of the world. Those people may have taken Native American wives or married into other shipwrecked peoples (and moved into areas away from the sea where their descendents are found today).
At one time it was very dangerous for other people to know that you are of mixed blood. Many people living today do not know that they are Melungeons. Being of known mixed heritage still brings discrimination and hardships today. Children cannot repeat what they have never been taught to anyone. My mother always got mad, hateful, and slapped me any time I asked questions about her people. I have always wanted to know what she did not want us to know about her heritage. DNA testing may tell me everything I want and need to know.

That means that Lisa, Marie, and Lisa, Marie‘s daughter, Riley Keough are mayflower descendants.

As a black Elvis fan keep in mind some of these boomer Elvis fans are low key racist and Elvis himself had to CONSTANTLY navigate racism in his own white southern fan base often in defense of his black background singers “The Sweet Inspirations” . Everyone knows colonel Tom Parker constantly worked to appease a southern pro-segregation mainstream audience knowing Elvis’ affinity for black company and black music. the people who downplay the racial issues of this VERY important cultural figure are continuing Tom Parker’s limited vision of Elvis Presley.

Well, I'm Australian and have never heard the term 'Melungeon' until now, so you taught me something there but yes, I did know Elvis dyed his hair black and that his natural colour was quite fair. I read that he just did it because he preferred dark hair, and the combination of dark hair and blue eyes (* his eyes weren't dark either, they were blue). His wife Priscilla also dyed her hair darker for that reason, to please him, and also styled her hair and clothes to suit his taste. He liked a kind of 'vampy' look on a woman. Yes, I can see him having something exotic in his heritage as his unique features aren't entirely Caucasian. He also had such natural rhythm and soul in his performances and loved gospel music. Whatever ever his background, he was a dam fine looking man that's for sure!

Later ancestors left Canada and moved to New York. we knew my 2nd great grandmother was French Canadian, but we thought her husband was Scottish. Her info is mush. Just bad speculation. Just like Senator Elizabeth Warren claiming to be an Indian, because she had high cheekbones and she could get a free college education as an Indian minority.
Elvis's ancestry is much like my own, I believe. My family (brother had DNA test) in Mississippi, is 44% English and 34% Irish and 2% Iberian Peninsula (Small Country of Basque, located in valley amongst mountains between Spain and France.) The remaining 20% DNA is from other Northern European countries: Germany, Finland, Norway, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Poland) Speaking of Poland, a good number of people in Mississippi have the handsome features of the people from Poland.
But, recent archeological digs in Ireland prove that the Basque were in Ireland (and England) before the Celts. I believe that Elvis and some of my Mississippi relatives and I got a lot of our features from the Basque, a small country with its own language and beautiful people. 😮
I forgot to add that my mother's sister (pretty when young, black-hair) was tested and got similar results as my brother, but as a woman got Scot included in that remainder of 20% Northern European. 😮

I've also read that he would sneak off and sit outside hidden somewhere close to listen to black folks sing gospel at their church. Moreover, he would go where blacks were singing the blues and listen. They say this is where he got his style of dress from....from those guys singing the blues. So happy you covered this. I am related to Elvis and am a distant cousin and have looked at his family tree. His roots (in the America's) goes back to colonial Virginia and the Carolina's in the 1600's which are the main roots for many families of the Southern USA genetic group. These distant ancestors would most likely be a mix indentured servants from the British Isles, Native Americans and African's who made up the free people of color tri racial isolate group that spawned off the Lumbees, Melungeons and other's some of whom became blended into the greater white population. You might have heard about the conclusion that all people of French Canadian ancestry have common ancestors from a small population in Quebec in the 1600's well it's the same for the Southern Genetic group in that a lot of them share the same ancestors from colonial Virginia in the 1600's many of whom were mixed producing a SE USA Creole population that spread out west, SW and NWard across the USA.,

      @Direness Před 7 měsíci +6

I'm descended through the colonial Virginia and Carolinas group on both sides of my family, and my grandmother's side traveling & intermarrying with Melugeon families in North Carolina is what originally started my research to see if our family was descended from Melugeon families. When I was not as tenured a researcher, I'd found a census stating one of my ancestors was "m" for race, and at the time, I didn't know what that meant and thought it was a mistake, because the next census showed "w". Now, I know that was for "mulatto", and sure enough, DNA tests show that side of the family has African ancestry, and the number of generations estimated, would take it back to colonial Virginia. It was fairly common for mixed families for their race to change from census to census, depending on where they moved, who was taking the census, & if the family could pass. Supposedly, we're distantly related to Elvis, but I've yet to actually confirm that line.

His was not fully blond with reddish tones, it was a lighter brown than Burnett’s, with bronze not red tones, People mistake the bronze for red all the time but they are completely different. Awesome video. Remember while back watching Roseanne Cash on finding your roots. They did DNA test she found out she had African ancestry from her Dad Jonny Cash and her mom his first wife.
They also said she had more from her dad than her mom.

I appreciate your research into Elvis' line. It would have been great to know his father's line as well. It is well known many Melungeons have blue eyes. It is a common trait. I did know Elvis had blonde hair but Melungeons existed from at least the 1600s, if not before. Most Melungeons married with causations which is why many white people today don't realize they have melungeon historty. My 3rd great grandfather was tall, dark, had black curly hair he straightened, blue eyes, lived in the melungeon area, and we have DNA matches to people with melungeon ancestry. My 2nd great grandfather had blonde hair. Most people tried to hide their melungeon ancestry back then. Johnny Cash also had African ancestry DNA as well as his wife. People went to great lengths to hide it. I don't know if Lincoln and Elvis have melungeon ancestry but it is definitely something I am interested in finding out. Thank you for your video.

That’s why Elvis’ hair was naturally blonde/red. His eyes were blue. My husband and both our kids have those Ellie eyes. My grandbaby has his natural hair color. They Pteslry’d and Guess’ descended from sequoia.

The problem with connecting Elvis's music is that he didn't write his own music. From info on Elvis "Elvis never wrote a single song although he recorded over 600. He was given co-writing credits on a lot of songs because his label demanded songwriters gave up 50% of the credit to him before he recorded it as they knew he would make it a best seller."

One doesn't have to write the music composition they're preforming to make an authoritative musical statement, if that were the case black gospel wouldn't count as art because most black gospel songs aren't written by the vocalist.

I know this probably won't get read by many but Elvis had dirty blonde hair and he also had rhinoplasty. In the late 60s early 70s his nose was slimmer. Also Elvis's last name would be Wallace not Presley If you go by the male line. On his father's side someone named Wallace married a Presley and the family decided to carry on the Presley name instead of Wallace. I don't recall the whole story, but I think Wallace died early or separated from the family so they just instead carried on the Presley name from the female line and this happened around the mid to late 1800s. Elvis's mother was also Jewish and she had semitic ancestry. As far as his music and voice it starts with the singer named Roy Hamilton. Elvis admired Roy Hamilton and that's where he got the sound of his voice from. Elvis acknowledged copying Roy's voice and style. They only met once and Roy Hamilton died soon after. If you listen to Roy Hamilton you will hear a little bit of Elvis.

There is no proof he had rhinoplasty. Our nose is composed of bone, soft tissue skin, and cartilage, may change shape as you age. Elvis loved Roy, before Elvis was famous he would listen to Roy records. Elvis was influenced by him, Elvis greatly admired Roy singing ability and style but Elvis has his own style of singing. Both shared common musical roots, which would shape their singing styles. Yes they met once in American Sound Studios in Memphis. They instantly liked each other and became friends. When Roy was in the hospital Elvis sent Roy's wife Myrna roses every day and even when Roy passed away he continued sending flowers to her.

My son discovered over a year ago that we are melungeon. I was always told we were malloto(sp). My grandma was 100% Cherokee and my grandfather Indian and black I grew up my whole life believing that.
My son as he started really digging into my dad's family tree 🌳 he found out that was only part truth, but the reason they did not broadcast they were "melungeon" was because there was a doctor can't remember his name off hand and an agenda to irradicate the melungeon people they would sterilize them!!! I was dumbfounded I had no idea at all. My dad's last name was Nichols so I started digging and yup sure enough we are but somewhere in there is Jewish blood as well...my grandma walked the trail of tears from Kentucky to Oklahoma. We are related to Perkins, Gipson, Gibson, and others. Just find this fascinating but also kinda puts a person into an identity crisis for over 50 years I thought I was Cherokee and black on my dads and Caucasian on my mommas side...I do not even know anymore lol

His ancestry notwithstanding, but, he did not have dark eyes and dark hair naturally, as you claim. He was born with blue eyes and blond hair (kind of dirty blonde shade). He did put dark lenses sometimes for the sake of some of the roles he played in his movies. Like in that 60's movie when he had to wear brown contact lenses because he was supposed to be part Native American. So some people thought they were brown or dark, but they definitely were not. There're plenty of his childhood photos, as well as army's, as he wasn't allowed to dye his hair there.
