    This was so satisfying to watch! I LOVE my hair twisted... but GOOD LORD it’s soooo thick and relatively long(chest length). It’s such a production to do at home.😒 My most trusted stylists were always so honest. I would visit them maybe 4 times per year, and they would say “You still don’t need a trim. If you WANT it cut, I’ll do it, but you don’t need it yet”. It’s so good to have someone that knows what they’re doing, and not just go through the motions, or do what they were taught in cosmetology school, IF that doesn’t serve their clients properly. YOU ARE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! I love watching your work.👏🏽❤️

    I’ve been trying to be more proactive with seeing my stylist once a quarter to get a trim and blow out. The past two quarters I’ve notice increased single strand knot. As early as my first wash after the blow out. I wash weekly and alternate between WNGs, low ponytail, or 2 strand twists. It’s been hella frustrating during detangle time because my ends are like Velcro and I’m like how sway and I got a trim a few weeks ago. Watching this has me wanting to troubleshoot with my stylist cause something ain’t adding up.

    I have such anxiety around going to hair stylist because I cannot say what I really want. I think I’ve never been to a stylist that had natural hair it was either relaxed or 3s or 2s. So I couldn’t relate to them I just stopped going.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  Před rokem +3

      Well first off it's your responsibility to be able to clearly communicate your desires, expectations, and goals for your hair. We cannot read your mind and everyone has personal preferences on style and hair. You really shouldn't assess someone's ability to do your hair based on the appearance of their own hair. If that was the case, no one would sit in my chair since I don't have any hair on my head. I think you need to really take time to assess what it it is that you really want for your hair and what you want from a stylist and be reasonable enough to meet them halfway. Getting the best out of a salon service is a mutual team effort and you have to be willing to work with the stylist.

    • @SanaaJadeCruz
      @SanaaJadeCruz Před rokem +10

      @@AfrikanHairGod I usually elaborate more on a post I didn’t mean to offend you or disrespect the profession. I have a hard time saying what I what and being assertive I just go with the flow and in my own personal experiences the stylist were sweet kind and well intentioned but because they don’t deal with natural or have natural hair they were sometimes not gentle with detangling or they wanted to straighten my hair sometimes saying can you be more gentle feels like I’m being bossy so for myself being a people pleaser I can’t bring myself to say anything. I should have led with I appreciate you giving your client space to that. My anxiety gets the best of me and I just decide to stop going. I’ve been watching your videos for many many years and only commented on your skating video I hope I didn’t offend you that was not my intention.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  Před rokem +17

      @@SanaaJadeCruz I apologize if my reply came off a bit too strong or harsh. That wasn't my intention I'm just direct and blunt sometimes. I really do understand how you feel as I am nonconfrontational as well. We have all been there when we could have and should have spoken up a bit more. I think you need someone that is much more accommodating and is able to mesh better with your communication style and perhaps help lead and guide you to the service that is suitable for you. My reply was just giving perspective as a stylist. I've been in situations where my client was unhappy but didn't allow me the opportunity to know or accommodate. As I said before it's a team effort and it's about finding the right partner to assist and service you. I apologize again for my brash tone.

Ive been natural for 11 years now and I took over trimming my own, like 6 years ago. I used to let the Egyptians trim it and give it a good blow dry 3 times a year but I went about 6 months ago and before that, it was 3 years. It's as if they're trying to look fancy or some sh*t lol. I find single strand knots a lot too and i have type 2-3. I can't find a good stylist to trim my hair because I live in Korea and have lived here for almost a decade. There are a couple military moms that live off base (I'm not military so I'm not allowed on base) who have illegal home salons but they're not the greatest. And they're usually only here temporarily for like a year or 2. The one I was seeing left last year and she wasn't great and would rip through my hair. The only other one I know of is about 4 hours away and the last time she trimmed my hair, she blew it out without a heat protectant because it wasn't included in the service I got lol. For some reason it's included in silk presses though. Anyway, it was a trek to get to her and immensely expensive since she's military and charges in USD but I make a measley weak KRW.

      That requires more of an in depth analysis as to why the hair is splitting so high in the first place. You can't really fix a problem if you don't address the cause. So there's not really anything generally speaking that I would recommend. It depends on each person.

    • @nilipty
      @nilipty Před rokem +3

      @@AfrikanHairGod that’s a good point. I don’t know why. It’s a problem I’ve ALWAYS had. My hair is also very brittle. My hair is very dry and I try my best to keep it moisturized but it takes a 3-4 days of applying water/moisturizer for my hair to retain moisture and not feel dry. I’ve grown it very long and I’ve had it super short, the issue gets worse when my hair is long (of course). I get a trim 1-2 times a year. My hair is natural (been natural 20+ years). I’m now in the process of growing out my hair out again and currently is mid-back when stretched. I don’t get presses or weaves. I mostly wear it in twists or out in an Afro. Single strand knots are not an issue… just the multiple splits of one strand and high up splits. Sometimes I feel like cutting it all off and starting over.

    Hi, Is it OK to cut natural hair when it's wet? Thank you.

    My ends of my hair are straight, it is best to get a big chop or cut a little each time. My mom says to jsut cut it each time especially sense I usually wear my hair and it’s very long.
    I was wondering, it that just worse, waiting and not cutting it off, it won’t like travel up, right?
    12:30 that’s what you say here

      Oh and near the wrong of my hair or head or even underneath my hair that’s visible, my styles like thick twists are very damage that, very small and thin compared to the rest of my hair. Should I get that trimmed individually?
      When I get it trimmed my mom was jsut saying, when it gets the the rest of the length of my hair to cut it, but I’m like eeeh, idk.
      And when the lady blows out my hair, it gets my hair rlly thin, like if she flat ironed it. Is that needed, can I tell her to calm down with it a little.

    Why didn't you flat iron before the trim?

      It's easier handling the hair with some is the texture still present

    Love the cut and color. I did learn from this video to separate my hair individually. The only thing that I’m not thrilled about is it looks like her hair is very dry. Not sure what else you could’ve done to add some more moisture to her hair.🤷🏽‍♀️

      I don't think it's necessary but you should do what you feel is best for you

      I have the Revair and it helps with not having to do a lot of arm work like you do with a traditional blow dryer. But if you got the arm strength and want to save some coin, just stick to the blow dryer and brush. If you have the experience and expertise, you can get it just as flat 💯

      @@curlynella1011 Do you think the revair causes less damage than a traditional blow dryer? I haven't used heat in more years than I can count. But I'm considering using heat to stretch my hair because I'm having a lot of problems with breakage no matter how moisturized I keep my hair. I think stretching with a dryer could help because it will reduce tangling. So I'm trying to decide between a regular dryer and the revair.

      @@Kindred04 definitely. The temperature only ranges from 176° to 220° It really gets my hair really flat without much work 💯
