    I’ve been listening to this magical song since about 1988 and NEVER realised John was whistling the coda of Hello Goodbye! Thanks for those deep insights! Beatles songs are like bottomless wells full of limitless wishes. And they always come true.

    Another fun hour in front of the Computer screen with Mike Pachelli and my guitar. Always pick something up if not something close to what you play (well not too close). Keep up the great work..Oh love all the back stories, you should collect all of them and write a book.

    Thanks Mike. As soon as this notification popped up, I dropped everything I have to listen to this. It is one of my favourite Beatle songs. It’s epic McCartney and John Lennon’s harmony. line is just exquisite. Ringo’s drumming just adds so much to it and George’s guitar is the cherry on the top. Ironically, I am just watching ‘Get Back’ film again and the interview with Rick Rubin. Is it possible to overdose on too much Beatle?

    Just in my opinion,George's part makes this song. His riffs are what we remember. But the vocals are Everly Brothers quality and recall the harmonies of P.S. I LoveYou. You're brilliant, Mike.

    Interesting-I hadn’t realized there were so many time signature changes. It seems to be well known from the Get Back movie and from countless interviews over the years that The Beatles did not know how to read/write musical notation, that they sometimes struggled to communicate their musical intent to studio musicians when they were brought in (a gap often filled by George Martin), and that they didn’t really have a rigorous or formal way to communicate time changes to each other, relying more on their instincts and their knowledge of how each other tended to play in order for the band to stay on the same page. Given all of this, my guess is that PM did not consciously do those time changes on purpose, and that it probably just happened instinctively as he strummed it out on his guitar one day.

    • @scottanderson2458
      @scottanderson2458 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Absolutely, it gets a lot of criticism ( I think a part of the problem is that Spector overwhelmed some of the songs with his production choices - Let It Be naked gets a bit closer but it was such a problematic album that I doubt there is a definitive version ). Several great songs on here nonetheless. It's not in my top 5 of Beatles albums but I wouldn't be without it - I wouldn't be without any of their albums or singles to be honest.

    Superb stuff Mike. I always assumed this was written by John and Paul in their early days, like One After 909. Such a feelgood song with none of the cynicism that had sometimes crept in over the years. Nice to hear it was about Paul and Linda's early relationship. The song has a similar feel to Lindisfarne's Together Forever ( written by Scottish songsmith Rab Noakes ) and I often think of the other whenever I listen to one of these songs.

    The mystery to me is WHY DIDN’T GEORGE USE THE FENDER BASS VI on this? I am glad he didn’t don’t get me wrong! I think it was a little passive aggressive behavior toward Paul in saying “ I am not going to play bass”! while still doing it on his TELE and it ends up sounding great! It’s a lead bass part. Kind of unique as far as I can find in Rock to have a bass part played on a regular 6 string on a major recording by the biggest band in history!

    You seems to know a lot background information about the Beatles. Something puzzles me for some time. It's concers 'The ballad of John & Yoko'. It was just Paul & John recording it. So no George involved. But who did come up with the marvelous double stop guitar licks in between the singing? Did perhaps McCartney hum it first?. Somehow I can't imagine John coming up with it completely by himself...or was a befriended guitarist maybe involved? This guitarplaying takes the song to a complete next level...imagine the song without it...
