Only the Baby Shark song had me repeating the catchy lyrics as much as OMG!!! Such a cool moment in Mets lure. I'm praying Mr. SOTO is feeling the groove from the other side of the city and comes play for us!!! Mets should have swept the Astros. Now we have to keep the energy up going into Washington. These next 3-4 series are huge. LFGM!!! Happy 4th ladies. Great job as usual
I think the song inspired the position players, but the stress of losing Diaz and Smith just overpowered the rest of the pen. Right now, Nunez is the only one I trust closing.
Luis Rojas Mendoza has never used Núñez in a closing role. Núñez has 14 appearances and 0 save opportunities. Yet he puts in Festa, for his debut, in a tied game in the 11th inning.
Mendoza has, for the most part, been adequate(B-). His bullpen management has been questionable(C-). Bullpen management is the toughest job for a manager. It is easy to run a team when your offense is bludgeoning other teams and you don't have to make hard, in-game pitching decisions.
Opening Day bullpen: Edwin Díaz, Brooks Raley, Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman, Jorge López, Drew Smith, Michael Tonkin, Yohan Ramirez, Sean Reid-Foley(alternate). On June 30, only 2 were left: Adam Ottavino and Jake Diekman
Mendoza continues to fail at pitching management. He consistently pulls starters too early and relies on the Smith Brothers Cough Drop guys(Garrett & Diekman). Garrett has blown 3 of 6 save opportunities. Diekman has blown 3 of 5 save opportunities. He refuses to try Nunez as a closer, but puts Festa in a tied 11th inning game.
Technically, the rally song from 1986 was the very lame “Let’s Go Mets Go,” but that’s not the song that got the players and the fans fired up. That would be the “Curly Shuffle,” which was a novelty song from the ‘80s about the comedy group, The Three Stooges, and was often played in the 8th inning, in both the 1985 and 1986 seasons. Many knuckleheaded come-from-behind rallies started with that song.
It is NOT the starters! Mendoza is the one pulling them too early. After Diaz got suspended, he should have leaned on the starters more, but he pulled them as follows: Jun 26 Manaea pulled at 77 pitches, gave up 0 ER Jun 28 Quintana pulled at 93 pitches, gave up 2 ER Jun 30 Severino pulled after 79 pitches, gave up 4 ER Jul 1 Peterson pulled after 86 pitches, gave up 2 ER
With all due respect to Mike Croston, the Mets want to get to the playoffs THIS YEAR. In 62 years, the Mets have made the playoffs only 10 times. Next year, there may be injuries, JD Martinez, Severino, Alonso, and/or Bader may be gone.
Interesting how the season is shaking out whereas there are three groups of teams: -An elite group that is well above .500 and firmly in post-season position. -Another less fortunate small group that is well below .500 and looking to next year. -And then the third group of teams which constitute the majority, who are hovering a few games over, exactly at, or just below .500 who are part of the playoff chase (or as I call it the wild card scrum). The Mets, Rays, and quite a few others are in that group. Insofar as bullpens (especially closers), they run hot and cold. Could definitely relate to Edwin Diaz because Rays closer Pete Fairbanks definitely experienced his share of struggles earlier this season. But after a period in which he did not pitch and worked on mechanics with pitching coach Kyle Snyder he has straightened himself out.
The parity in baseball is certainly something, have to think the 3rd WC enables many teams (including the Mets, Rays, etc) to be in the hunt when they otherwise would not be. Interesting how the playoff picture has changed so much in just a few short years
@@WhyMetsPod Guess that is what MLB had in mind when they expanded the amount of playoff teams. To have more teams in the mix, which is a good thing. Part of me though does miss the one game wild card elimination. It was nerve wracking, yet exciting.😄
@@jamesbuckley8917 And in a week or two from now, it could conceivably stretch the other way and those three teams you mentioned could be right back in it. There are many twists and turns over the course of a 162 game season.
Hey ladies I'm one of your original subscribers. It would be cool if I could get a shout out next week. PS my last name is pronounced 'fry'. Keep kicking ass!
forget the grimace. forget OMg. I get that it should be fun, but why do t he Mets skew toward a joke vs a legit contender like Atlanta. We are today a fun group of players and a looney team. atlanta ae killers!
How insane is Torrens arm gunning out base stealers!!!
These two work at my tv station and I think their podcast is the best. They knock it out of the ballpark every time. Let's Go Mets...😊
They are a much needed breath of fresh air to this fan base ❤
Thank you!! We really love getting to be on your TV and that you listen to the podcast too:)
GREAT, two beautiful METS' fans.
LET'S GO METS!!!
Ladies happy to tune in for another great pod. Wish you could do several episodes a week, you are that good! LFGM!!!
Let's go Mets!!🧡💙
OMG the bullpen is going to give me a heart attack!!!
Mood
I said this when the season began our bullpen was weak hope they upgrade at trade deadline.
I hope you ladies come to the Mets game in the summer
We hope to get down there!

Yep! Take the series in Washington and all is back to normal. Happy 4th to you as well!!
Offense is on fire and the bullpen is a dumpster fire 😮
When winning: OMG 🎶 🎉❤️
When losing: OMG @#$%!
Thanks for the shout out! My ex-fiancée is BPD and it was just like the Mets 1990 team (and other Mets' seasons).
Thanks for listening!
I heard Carlos Mendoza gave Edwin Diaz a ticket to the game. It was that seat.
Interesting

Bullpen needs help. However, the starters can help the pen by going more than 5 innings per start.

They changed who let the dogs out to who let the Mets out
Has the OMG curse ended the Grimace era?
apparently no thank god
They need help in the bullpen and have to send McNeil to the bench.
Happy Bobby Bonilla day
to all who celebrate

The rubber band is stretching. CIN, WAS & CHC are 6-7 games under now.

Mets are done with the Dodgers this regular season, so you will not see them again. The Mets lost the season series with them 2-4.

Yes for sure!! Thanks for being here since the beginning LFGM
I do worry other teams will play harder vs the Mets cause of their "Highschool musical" antics. I know I would.
This is a good point
0-2 since the omg concert 😑

Atlanta wishes it was as legit as Philly.
