Circa 1990, I worked at the UPS Next Day Air facility in Louisville Kentucky, as an aircraft refueler. At the time, UPS had a few contractors to handle short-distance flights (Beckley, West Virginia, for example), and there were two Shorts 330s that I saw (and fueled) on a semi-regular basis.

A great aircraft for skydiving :-)

It reminds me of a pug dog, so ugly it is kind of cute. If I was rich enough, I'd convert one to a camper and go tour some out of the way airstrips in Canada and Alaska, taking an ATV and a canoe along for sport.

I've always thought " Everybody should have a Skyvan" 😂 It brings a whole new meaning to flying in shorts. I flew in an S360 a few times, never a Skyvan though.

I flew in one of these in, I think, the mid-90's, from Newcastle to Belfast as a replacement for a cancelled aircraft. I remember the headroom being cavernous.

One the most underrated aircraft of all time, it’s impact on aviation was and continues to be significant. I always thought of her as quite beautiful actually, yes she’s necessarily boxy but the curves are in all the right places. Then again, I find the Porter to be sexy too. If there was some force of nature that could turn a box into something aerodynamic what would result naturally is not far I think, from what Shorts came up with.

My first ever flight was aboard a Skyvan. It was smelly and very noisy. It reeked of Jeyes fluid. When I asked why, I has told thier previous passengers had been a flock of sheep. They just mucked it out, splasked some jeyes fluid around and put the seats back in.

That looks a whole lot more like an Air Bus than an actual Airbus! That does not look like a shape that would be practical to blast through the air at 170 mph. Impressive!!

FOrget business jets, if I had teh means I'd buy one of these and convert it, and then modify it for bush flying.

I always wondered why Shorts built such ugly planes, although I concede they were utilitarian. I also wonder if headsets and ear plugs were issued on such passenger flights. It must have been noisy as hell with those Garretts. They were not as successful (I believe) as the deHavilland Twin Otter, certainly not in the Canadian Arctic.
