Also, amazing explanation i always have problems with starting and ending chains so i highly appreciate you including that because the middle project is just continuation is not that hard to follow.
I haate it when videos show the whole process thoroughly but skip past the ends.

my yarn is thicker should i have to do 45 chains? that sounds a lot

No if your yarn is thicker do less chains at the beginning. Also this scarf is wide. If you’re new to crocheting you can make yours more narrow by starting either less on your foundation chain.
